NewlyRetired 16,724
Sounds like the market is starting weed out the streaming services. Sony announced today that they are shutting down PS Vue due to lack of growth. Goes dark in January. Also, ATT recently lost 195k subscribers from DTV Now from last quarter. Maybe bc it's a horrible service. They dropped channels from the initial package and then raised the prices. On top of that, their Customer Service isn't integrated with normal DTV, so you have to do mainly everything online - yet they aren't as transparent with that information. It's one of the worst services I've tried/used.

Craig_MiamiFL 2,542
Nothing memorable about Vue. I'd probably have put them 2nd to last as far as streaming services I've tried. Youtube TV interface was an abomination when I tried it. And I'm one that uses the main Youtube app on a daily basis. They'd rank worst on the services I've tried. This was probably 6-12 months ago. DTV Now was pretty good other than it took a ####### eternity for the ### #### channel guide to load. They dropped channels and raised price so not surprising at all they're bleeding customers as well. Philo is far and away my favorite paid streaming service. Paying $16/mo. I think they raised it to $20/mo for new customers but well worth it IMO. If you're a big sports viewer, probably won't be of much help but still cheap enough to use as addition to a sports package. I've had zero issues with Philo since I've started (the better part of a year ago?) Edited October 29, 2019 by Craig_MiamiFL

No, but to add sling or hulu live appears to be less expensive then I'm paying for DTVN, and appears to be a better service. Plus It would surprise me if a Hulu Live package didn't get offered at some point since they are offering D+, Espn + and Hulu packages already. Seems a missed opp if they don't go the next step. Understood, I looked at DirectvNow last year and the wife said it was too complex, YouTubeTV seems better. Only thing holding me back is I have a grandfathered DirecTV package that if I leave I can't close to again if I come back. My kids could care less, 100% of what my 13 year old watches is streaming outside a US Soccer game and my 16 year old is probably 90% streaming, he watches some NBA and MLB so they are used to it. It was great with low cost and pretty good service, but then they started raising their rates aggressively in last 12 months. About three months ago we switched to SpectrumTV which is their streaming service. Large number of channels similar to the cable service but streamed. We use SpectrumTV app on AppleTV devices and it works well. Still have some pixilation for brief periods about 2-3 times per week. Can access it on iphone or ipad remotely and works fine...just don't have local channels. We also have a SpectrumTV box for DVR capabilities and it works well. Assume (maybe wrongly) Xfinity Streaming might be similar as cable companies need to compete with the streaming services. Probably can try for a week or two for free and even if you sign up, probably can cancel any month.

I'll give Comcast kudos in this regard - they are far more flexible when it comes to adding/deleting services. As long as you keep one service (and I have no other option for internet) you can cancel with no early term charge (and yes I have that in writing). Paying $140 for 100 mbps Internet + Vue w/Redzone right now, 2 year deal is $105 for year 1, $125 year 2 for twice as many channels but less DVR

All they do is take $25 off the ever increasing top-line price. Eff these guys. Wondering if the switch to YouTubeTV is worth it? madshot31 319
So, I am moving back into the land of civilization within a month when our kitchen reno is finished. Right now we are sporting Netflix/Prime & a Verizon Jetpack Unlimited Data for internet. This is huge in this area that doesn't have much traffic to get prioritized. We are moving to the only area with gigabit available and will have access to cable tv again, right now we are in the sticks. The wife wants the bells and whistles and never looks at rices but will go with what I decide as I usually just have to show her the savings over a year and then we spend half of it on something nice. I have used At&T, Verizon, Comcast, Wave and others in the Norcal area in the past so I have experience doing the juggle. CurrentTV/Internet: Netflix & Prime / Verizon(20/15mbps unlimited hotspot) In our area of the country, this is priceless gold and will probably never be canceling the service as my parents are offering double to let them use it after I'm done. The service was only offered for 2-3 months and the other options around them in the area is At&t dsl 1.5mbps(that is VERY spotty) for double the price. 😭 Must Haves: Netflix/Prime Options: Hulu Live (we have used before and enjoyed) w/ Comcast Cable internet. Probably a moderate version but I hate hate hate how they do the promo prices and then jack them up after a year. Wife Wants: Gigabit Comcast with the full TV spread. The gigabit may happen but I'm always 🙄 of the promo vs long term price as we plan to use the service for 5-7 years. We can probably do lesser internet but since we both game, we need at least 1000 GBs or unlimited a month. Any opinions? I'm gonna go through and revisit a lot of pages now. Birdie048 316
GOOGLE FIBER 1000 MBS is now live in my neighborhood.... $70/month or $50 for 100 MBS. Did a major campaign in my area. We plan to make the change to Google Fiber soon... looking at streaming options... Currently >$230 for Time Warner (now Spectrum) 300 and spoty wifi service in house.. actual download speeds 60-70 MBS. We have multiple devices so it lags. Extra $90 Google TV but they are not promoting that.... they recommend streaming services. OK.. so questions: How does Roku Ultra streaming device compare to others? And how does everybody view Hulu Live vs Sling (Orange & Blue with $10 sports pkg)? I saw several "picture quality issue posts" on Sling, but was that related to Sling or other issues? Sling TV offers NFLN, MLB, RZ, Fox Sports & SECN from Blue & Orange + $10 Sports Pkg = $

Well, picked up the Roku Ultra at Target ($20 off plus the 5% Target Card discount), and played with it all weekend.. Overall, good options. The only main issue is jumping from channel to channel... not easy 1 button flip. Have to go to "recent" and scroll and select... then lose 5-6 sec while it is loading... allowed to rewind easy enough, but the remote is not intuitive. Needs a little time to understand how to use it best. Set up Hulu, Netflix & Prime accounts. Lots of options. Paid the extra $10 for storage & no commercials on Hulu, but still there when show was "on demand" and not recorded... no biggie. Overall, happy with Roku Ultra. The Voice control/selection was really nice.
snellman 361
Actually considering going back to cable. We are currently on PSVUE, but with the news of them discontinuing it I have started to look at other options. I am pretty much the only person in my house that watches live TV and my required channels are ESPN, Fox sports channels and NFL network. Of the the streaming services out there, PS vue is the only one that has all 3. Sling normally would, but Dish is currently in a spat with the Fox Sports channels. We just moved and switched internet providers, so I was looking this weekend and our Internet provider has a special bundle with internet and cable that would cost me $12 per month more than I am currently paying for internet and PS vue. I never thought I would go back after convincing my wife to drop directv, but it is looking like I may go back to the dark side.

Nice though...keeps from having to rent another box from them. We already have a Roku Ultra. So that would allow my kids to access DVR content through the app? Sounds good. We currently just have a roku stick, which from time to time has to be reset for the wifi to work properly. Not sure if it's the hardward (the roku) or the software (the beta app) that's causing the issues. We'll likely upgrade to an ultra to see if that does it.
