2024 Arizona Cardinals Thread (2 Viewers)

I had this crazy idea that Wilks might be a good coach. I anticipated an aggressive blitz heavy defense and a run centered offense built around Bradford game managing and reliance on David Johnson. Man was I crazy. Wilks seems a tad unpredictable.

Did Bidwell and the Cards really just induct Carson Palmer to their Ring of Honor? Curious as to how Cards fans feel about this.

Not taking away from anything Palmer did in a Cards uniform, but I (and imagine many other NFL fans) identify him as a Bengal before a Cardinal.

Regardless, the real travesty is that the team inducted him before Jackie Smith.

Why that hasn’t happened yet is not just baffling, but an insult to a guy who spent 15 years as a Card. Who cares if that was in another city, he is such an iconic member of the Cards.

Crazy that the HOF honored his achievements and contributions 25 years and counting before his own team has.

It’s ridiculous.

And now they have 3 wins

-They have a great problem, 2 talented RBs, Edmonds has to be their future but DJ is an elite level RB.

-Would Arians trade for DJ? Just a question.

-Is this offense capable of featuring 2 RBs? Maybe the funny part of the offense would be 200 yds rushing weekly and 150-200 passing in this "wide open" offense. There seems to be some nice holes to run thru since Murray keeps the defenses honest.

[Odegard] Kliff Kingsbury is open to taking another wide receiver, even after drafting Isabella, Butler and Johnson last season: "If you find one that you think is a game-changer, that’s where you’ve got to go."

Yes, it will be fun to hopefully see the Cards relevant.  The difference watching them last year from 2018 was amazing (2018 was BORING and TIRED).  Hope for another leap this year.

Cardinals selected Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Simmons (6’4/238) was a two-year starting hybrid specialist at Clemson who earned the 2019 **** Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker. A three-star out of high school, Simmons added lean muscle mass to his track frame to become a 99th-percentile athlete with 4.39 speed and a 39-inch vertical. He played snaps at linebacker, safety, and nickel corner in college and demonstrated a high-end ability to cover in space. Per PFF, he only allowed 5.6 yards per target in coverage while intercepting three passes. In the NFL, Simmons will be deployed as an elite coverage defender against tight ends and pass-catching backs with the athletic ability to work downhill against the run. He compares stylistically to a bigger but less agile version of Derwin James as a versatile safety/linebacker hybrid.

Love the pick - we need to guard TE's. Why does it seem like TE's have killed this team for the past 20 years?
Great answer to Kittle and others like Higbee. Simmons is versatile enough to shadow Russell, blitz Goff and lock down Kittle. Stud. Great use of a 2nd for DHop and a good value at OT in rd 3 with Jones. Great draft so far for AZ.

If the Cards 4th rounders are any of Curtis Weaver, Netane Muti, Bryce Hall, Geno Stone, Ben Bartch, Troy Dye, K'Von Wallace or Troy Pride, I'm gonna get really suspicious.

Cardinals DC Vance Joseph does not expect No. 8 overall pick Isaiah Simmons to spend much time at cornerback or safety.

Joseph did add that he "(wants) Isaiah to be Isaiah." Simmons enters the league with a unique, hybrid skill-set, but the Cardinals want him to focus on his primary position of linebacker. The Cardinals have a thing for 'tweeners, but they realize Simmons would be best served by focusing on one spot. Simmons' position confusion undoubtedly caused some teams to stay away, while NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported before the draft he was viewed primarily as a safety. It could be a rocky rookie year for both player and team, though there is no question Simmons is a special athlete.

Matt Verdeame on Twitter is saying that per his source, The Cardinals and Patrick Peterson are parting ways. Also says that he is slated to be an unrestricted free agent, implying he will be cut.

Probably a good thing. PP is a good dude, but he's really fallen off the last couple years. Time to get some new blood in the secondary.

Good read, thanks. I’m always amazed that with all the advanced data available these days there are still teams who underutilize motion and play action.
I have to imagine part of the reason they selected Rondale Moore was to be able to add more of those wrinkles to their attack.

Chandler Jones has reported to Cardinals training camp.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported Saturday that Jones has requested a trade, but his unhappiness has not progressed to the point that he is willing to incur the massive fines that come with holding out under the current collective-bargaining agreement. On the wrong side of 30, Jones was limited to five 2020 appearances by a torn biceps. Before that, he had averaged 16 sacks over the previous three seasons. A bounce-back is more than possible.

I’m not basing this on the production of the 2nd preseason game; but am I completely crazy to think Enos Benjamin is going to finish the season as RB1 on this roster?
Edmonds has never impressed me and after last season Connor has convinced me he was a one year wonder.

The Cardinals will start the season with the combo of Edmonds & Conner; however, anything is possible here over the course of a season, and Benjamin has been generating positive buzz throughout training camp & preseason.

I gotta say, this team is looking really good. Both O and D are playing extremely well.  Could a playoff bye be in the Cards?

I see what you did there.

I’m not a Card fan per se, but I own Kyler this year so I’m watching more Cards and the team is a heck of a lot of fun to watch. They are winning in dominant fashion, and while Kyler is the centerpiece of the offense, it doesn’t seem to be some one trick pony.

I didn’t think Kingsbury would last but I have to give him credit as they have built a good football team over the years. Always impressive to me when teams can handily win with a backup quarterback. If they can get fully healthy they have a chance against anyone.

Hmmm….this didn’t hold up very well lol…

OK, Cardinals homers: Last-minute advice on what Conner's absence means for Edmonds tonight? I saw that Darius Leonard was just added to the Covid list and is out tonight, so maybe that makes the matchup a little less scary. Still, it's been so long since we've seen Chase be productive, it's hard to bet on him in the playoffs.

Kliff Kingsbury made the stunning decision to kick a third-down field goal, down by nine points, in the Cardinals' Week 16 loss to the Colts.

Down nine in the fourth quarter, the Cardinals defense forced a three and out from the Colts. They then took over on offense with 4:16 left on the clock. What followed was a masterclass in incompetence. The Cardinals proceeded to bleed the clock, forgoing the chance to kick a quick field goal; instead prioritizing a necessary TD. Then with 46 seconds left, Kingsbury made a generational head-scratcher. On 3rd-and-10 from the 10-yard line, he opted for a 28-yard field goal, deciding that the five seconds it would take to run another play from the 10-yard line were too precious to waste. It was a move that left even casual football fans feeling confident they could outcoach an NFL professional. Unfortunately, the Cardinals did not recover the onside kick, which would have sealed Kingsbury's third-down field goal as a legendary blunder. The Cardinals face the Cowboys in Week 17, and an encore performance is firmly in play.
