TE Jimmy Graham, CHI (3 Viewers)

Won't make this mistake next year.
Didn't see the last drive huh?
Saw it all this year. Extremely overrated.

Still wouldn't correct your biased view.
you may need to explain that
He's overpriced which is what my initial statement was based on. Of course he has you and your handful of buddies that will stroke him regardless but the facts are the facts. Unless you keep changing the definition of overrated.

Don't know how you can say this was anything but a very disappointing campaign. Unlike previous years he didn't even have that sick first half that propelled teams to early leads in their leagues.

To me it's about health. Other than Gronk there is no other site bet elite guy ... J Thomas has shown more than flashes but not consistently great.

Graham still has the legit promise of being a top 5 game changer for FF... If he can just put together a healthy year that's stud RB1/WR1 numbers at TE. He'll even rivals some lower end QBs.

He's become on of the bigger high risk high reward players out there for next year.

I said that a few posts up. Neither he or Gronk are worth a first round pick. Maybe you'll figure out the difference in who to draft in the 1st round and what overrated is.
Gronkowski is #9 with 97 VBD points (probably #10 after Monday Night, Demaryius Thomas); he absolutely was worth a first-round pick. He's provided more value than Dez Bryant, Aaron Rodgers, or Jamaal Charles.

Jimmy Graham is currently #25 with 52 VBD points, which isn't great for a first-round pick but is actually better than most. He's provided more value than 6 players taken in the first round (McCoy, Charles, Peterson, C.Johnson, Manning, AJ Green), so he's an above-average first-round pick, even with the injury. The only better first-round picks were Forte, Lacy, Bryant, Rogers, and possibly Thomas.
and he was absolutely worth a first round pick 2 of the last 4 years.

i do hope his value drops next year and he is available in the 3rd or 4th.

You may need to change the defnition of "extremely overrated".

And you still need glasses. He is a great football player.

This is a fantasy football forum, this year he was overrated in fantasy football. If now you are talking about real life, when healthy yes he is a great football player.

Well, you talked about "what you saw" and then being "overrated".

In dynasty I think his value is higher than in redraft. A consistent top 2 TE for the next handful of years with potential for huge years (and a very high floor considering he just put up good numbers with a fairly significant injury for most the year), while also playing with a top end QB for the foreseeable future.

In the 1.5 PPR for TE leagues (like the FFPC), he is still a top 5-10 overall dynasty player for me, easily.

Now in redraft, well, even with injuries and a so-so season by his standards he was still more valuable than half the 1st round picks taken this year, mainly because RB scoring isn't nearly as consistent as he is.

Where exactly do you think taking him is "too high"? At what pick would you say "ok, I can see taking him there"? I guess this has two answers, one for 1 PPR and one for 1.5 PPR.

In terms of Graham's future value, the value of Brees has to be considered. If Brees' production slides with age, that obviously will have an impact on Graham given how much chemistry the two have.

Very true, but his style should hold up well for a while. Plus the new rules will keep him healthy.

Which new rules do you mean? Jimmy seems to be having problems staying healthy regardless of the rules in place.

Brees (somewhat) decline was in part because he was down a lot of options. Graham was not his peak self and it clearly showed in his drops and mobility. Cooks was hurt and Ir'd and that had an impact. Colston is done and Pierre was hurt. The passing game had very few consistent and good options.

Pay attention, too, what the Saints do with their offensive line thisoff-season. The interior of the line dropped a lot in quality over the past few years, and opposing teams have gotten consistent ip-the-middle pressure on Brees -- which is Drew's kryptonite.

C Jonathan Goodwin has been a mensch for years in the league, but his body is letting him down now. C-G Tim Lelito is much more solid of an option at center, so here's hoping he sticks in 2015. Lelito could also be moved to guard to replace a likely-gone disappointmet Ben Grubbs. Starting to see G Jahri Evans breaking down a bit, but I think he can bring it another season or two.

If they can land a Zach Martin type in the first round that could be a great start. Someone who can come in and be effective immediately. Land a pretty good FA lineman as well and this team is still an elite contender.

Bad year all around the foundation is still there.

Brees. Not Graham

Rotoworld:

Jimmy Graham anticipates avoiding offseason shoulder surgery.

Graham battled a shoulder injury for the entire second half of the 2014 season, severely affecting his production. He wouldn't reveal the injury's specifics in a Thursday interview with reporters. Still only 28 years old, we suspect Graham has a few seasons left in him of top-three tight end production. He'd be a value pick in the third round of 2015 fantasy drafts.

Gronk and maybe Olsen surpass him in my book..maybe NY Giants sign Julius Thomas and his stock goes through the roof..they sorely need a TE

Jimmy Graham - TE - Seahawks
New Seahawks teammate Michael Bennett still believes Jimmy Graham is "soft."
We're sure coach Pete Carroll is thrilled. "Just because he's on my team, I don't stop feeling that way," Bennett, for some reason, said. "Obviously I'm going to be a better teammate to him because he's on my team. I can't do the things I was doing to him when we were playing him. ... We are a running team, so he is going to have to block and do all those things." Bennett is correct that Graham hasn't always played with the edge required of a well-rounded tight end, but his comments are perhaps some of the most idiotic we've seen all offseason. Part of Seattle's success under Carroll has been its all-for-one, one-for-all mentality. Bennett may want to get with the program with regards to his new teammate.

He would have loved Miami.

I hope it works out for him in Seattle, but he was loved in NO, by teammates and fans alike. - In Seattle they understandably have a tough, prove-it mentality and yeah they will want him to take on their mentality. Jimmy had some real oh-lay moves on the line sometimes during run plays and broken plays, I don't think they will appreciate that in Seattle. Here we'd ask, 'why the hell are we running? Throw it to Jimmy!'

I think Graham has always been soft and I think teams are starting to expose it, hit him off the line and just play him physical all game and he seems to get "dinged" more frequently and takes himself out of the game. I like Graham a lot and have him in a dynasty league but I have always thought he played a little soft and gets shook up by a lot of contact.
Seems like his own teammates even think he's soft and probably game played him that way, luckily for Jimmy he now plays for the team that did that the best. I still think he will be a top 5 TE, I think his TD's will stay up but receptions and yards will dip.

Do you know he took himself out of games or was just playing injured and got his snap count cut? Can you name a teammate he played with that said he was soft?

Jimmy is tough as all hell once he catches the ball. No one ever accused him of malingering and quite the opposite the accusation was he played through pain too much. And there's definitely no shame in saying he was one of many who got bracketed into silence by the Seahawks backfield.

Michael Bennett is his teammate and he said it. So if he's saying it as a teammate you know the entire team thought as an opponent. Obviously Jimmy is a very talented player and Seattle needed a good receiver and he is that and more.

So you mean an athletic freak is still an athletic freak even with Wilson as his QB? I'm floored.

They threw him a ton of passes in the RZ, I guess you can say I'm equally as floored that the teams play callers are utilizing the athletic freak the way he should.
From the article:

Graham averaged 138 targets per year during his past four seasons in New Orleans, where the three-time Pro Bowler was the favorite target of quarterback Drew Brees. Seeing routine double coverage, Graham relied on his dominant 6-foot-7 frame to win matchups.

"I know I'm probably not going to get targeted 130 times," Graham said of his new team. "But that's not my concern; I just want to win games. And I know there will be times -- big moments in a game -- where I'm going to have to go out there and make a play. That's what I'm focusing on."

So he cant produce like an athletic freak in the redzone because of that?

Rotoworld:

The Seahawks are optimistic about Jimmy Graham's ability to block for Marshawn Lynch.

Graham seems to be taking his blocking responsibilities more seriously now that he's switched from the the pass-oriented Saints to the run-first Seahawks. "Listen, man," said Graham. "I'm 270 pounds. I can block anybody I want to." Despite Graham's reputation as a lazy blocker, PFF graded him a respectable 15th out of 67 qualified tight ends in run blocking last season.

Rotoworld:

Caoch Pete Carroll singled out Jimmy Graham as a player who stood out during OTAs.

Graham has taken to his new surroundings well. "He’s fit in with the players," Carroll said. "There was some talk about stuff in other seasons and all, that’s become part of the fun. He’s a great addition." Graham doesn't have the same ceiling he once did thanks to Seattle's run-based attack, but he'll be Russell Wilson's top target and a good bet for double-digit touchdowns again.

I'm wondering if he will help or hurt Lynch's numbers. On one hand, Graham might take some TDs from Lynch but on the flipside, help the offense overall and give Lynch more opportunities for scoring and yards.

Doug Baldwin: Marshawn Will Be More Devastating with Jimmy Graham

Excerpt:

Head coach Pete Carroll has said he thinks Graham will help open up the passing game for Baldwin — but the trash talking wideout believes the presence of Graham will provide huge running lanes for Lynch.

“Not only is he going to be able to open things up for myself, but also for Marshawn as well,” Baldwin said. “And opening more things up for Marshawn is going to be devastating to the defenses we face.”
