The Official Kicker (K) Thread (1 Viewer)

Ive been trotting out RODRIGO BLANKENSHIP  in most spots, and he has been pretty damn good through the first 6 games.

Weeks 8-9 were slow, and I'm starting to look elsewhere at potential rest-of-season options.

Is there anybody thats on most wires, you guys are looking at for late season/playoff kickers??

Its getting near the time where  we need to start looking over defenses/kickers for fantasy playoff purposes.

I'm mostly content to give Blankenship one more week, but if there is a kicker with a potentially juicy playoff/late season run I'd consider that also.

 TZM
Daniel Carlson. He has better season-long numbers than Blankenship, has had his bye, has only one potential bad weather game the remainder of the year (all but one of his remaining games are indoors) and in fact he is at home for weeks 14, 15 and 16 (more than a bit unusual).

I don't understand the love for Blankenship. He had a hot start but so what. Is it the glasses?

People love the Rec Specs! Looks like Wild Thing our there. Yeah, I don’t get it either. I mean, I get that he’s on a team with a good D that struggles on offense in the red zone. But a lot of kickers fit that profile. He had a hot start when Indy had a string of great matchups. He now has dicey matchups from here through the playoffs. He’s fine, but I wouldn’t put him in the top tier.

Rams K Kai Forbath (ankle) placed on injured reserve.

Austin MacGinnis is next in line for kicker duties in Los Angeles. The Rams are also bringing in veteran leg Matt Gay but he won't be able to work out for the team until Saturday because of COVID-19 protocols. MacGinnis has never kicked in the NFL.

The Rams are expected to sign K Matt Gay after placing K Kai Forbath (ankle) on injured reserve.

Gay won't be able to join the team until Saturday and is expected to compete with Austin MacGinnis. Gay went 27-of-35 in his rookie campaign last year before being waived by the Buccaneers ahead of the 2020 season. MacGinnis has not kicked in the NFL yet but was perfect on his 10 field goals while playing for the XFL's Dallas Renegades.

Giants placed K Graham Gano on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Fresh off signing a three year, $14 million extension, Gano will self isolate through the team's Week 11 bye. Two close contacts identified are Giants staff members and were told to stay home Tuesday. The Giants might have to sign a kicker off the street for their Week 12 game against the Bengals. Gano has made 21 of 22 field goal tries this season.

Picked up Sanders before last week. Scored fourteen points. Now's around the time of year that I stick with a kicker. Guy has averaged about twelve points a game over his last five. Other kickers available on the wire include Bass, Blankenship, and Badgley. The problem with Bass is he's on bye and the problem with Blankenship is as stated before (mediocre performance mixed with hot and cold offense). Badgley's problem is that he's just missed too many kicks for my liking. He should really be the play if he were average this year. But he's not.

So Sanders it is for the week. A decent offense mixed in with a slightly below average red zone offense due to RB size and you've got a nice mix right now. Defense looks stalwart and is winning field position games while Tua is just competent enough to move the team. We'll see what goes on from there...

Leaning Sanders over Blank, Money, and Carlson in week 11. Weather nice in Denver it appears 46 degrees and 5-6 mph winds.

My only hesitation is can Tua move the ball downfield consistently? I might be in the market for a different kicker after this week depending on Tua. Bass is on our waivers but his playoff schedule is el stinko. Buffalo plays NE and someone else, in Buffalo and New England on Dec. 20th and Dec. 28th. No thanks. Buffalo is subhuman cold on the 28th. NE? It'll probably snow or rain depending on the temperature. Forget that idea. Bass would have been a great pickup for these past four weeks, but he's best left to waiver wires, IMHO.

Good point. I’ve thought about Bass myself and was really frustrated I didn’t pick him up last week.

I’ve continued to look at FGAs by team and FGAs allowed by team to find my kicker matchups. High implied team totals can also help, especially if you think the team with the high total will be leading as that often equates to more kicking opportunities icing the game away.

I’m on Zeurlein this week with Minny giving up a ton of FGAs and the Cowboys getting their offense healthier. Next week I may go back to the same well with Slye against Minny. Or I’ll ride Greg the Leg. Or I’ll convince myself Bass-O-Matic is the play.

Titans signed K Sam Sloman to their practice squad.

Sloman made eight of 11 field goal tries and 18 of 21 extra point attempts this season with the Rams. He would be an insurance policy for veteran Stephen Gostkowski, who's had a disastrous season, missing eight of 23 field goal attempts along with two extra points. Almost any other kicker would have been cut by now. Sloman would have immediate fantasy relevance on a Titans team that generates plenty of neutral and positive game script, which allows for more field goal tries.

Jets placed K Sam Ficken on injured reserve with a groin injury.

Sidelined several weeks, Ficken returned in Week 11 before immediately getting hurt again. Sergio Castillo, who will handle kicking duties during Ficken's absence, has appeared to be the better player this season.

Jaguars placed K Chase McLaughlin on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

It is unclear if McLaughlin himself is positive or a close contact of someone who was. The Jags are having COVID issues, sending their entire defensive staff home on Tuesday. If McLaughlin is COVID positive, he is ineligible to kick this weekend. The Jags have to be getting close to setting the single-season kicker record. Whoever handles kicking duties against the Browns will not be worth streaming in fantasy.

Great insight here. I’m looking to possibly move on from Gonzo this week as he’s a bit too up and down. And the Cards are a little too efficient in the red zone. Bass is very tempting. Fits the profile you’re looking for: Rocket leg, potent offense, but can’t run the ball so inefficient in red zone. But as you pointed out, the weather is just too much to ignore. Agree he’s a stay away. Leaning towards getting on the Sanders train, but I share your concerns about Tua. As a bitter Parker owner I wish Fitz was still back there. Even though the Phins are now dropping winnable games when they could be in the hunt, unfortunately it looks like Tua is here to stay.

Due to the uncertainty of the Bal-Pit game - and the likelihood the Ravens may not have many opportunities if the game is played - I’m looking at replacing Tucker. Surprisingly good options on the wire:

• Slye @ MIN (#1 in FFP allowed to Ks)

• Succop KC (23rd)

both are on a bye Week 13

• Carlson @ ATL (19th)

• McManus NO (16th)

Bass LAC (14th)

Leaning Slye and then just streaming ROS.

Thoughts?

I am doing the same thing. Hate to drop Tucker (and his schedule) before the playoffs, but there’s too much uncertainty about this game, so I need to prepare replacements  for Ben, Steelers D, and Tucker. I simply don’t have room on my roster for 2 kickers, so I am leaning Myers or McManus. Slye, Carlson, Succop are already taken.

Also strongly considering Crosby. I am favored in this week’s matchup, and I am thinking about going Crosby & Bears D to sustain the advantage. Since they play each other, their scores will likely offset. Is that a shark move, or am I getting too creative?

I am holding off on making this move because my IR is overloaded and I have to drop a bench spot just to swap out kickers.

Giants activated K Graham Gano and S Xavier McKinney ahead of Week 12's game against the Bengals.

Gano is now off the reserve/COVID-19 list, while McKinney has been on injured reserve with a broken foot. Gano should immediately slot back into lead kicking duties against the Bengals, where the Giants are -6 favorites.

Gano universally ranked low this week, but what's not to like?

* Hasn't missed ANY kicks.

* Game script should favor NYG offense against Cinci with a new QB and resurgent defense.

* D. Jones and company just inefficient enough to probably break down in redzone.

* Weather looks great.

Debating Gano vs. J. Meyers @PHI tmrw night.

Jaguars activated K Chase McLaughlin from the reserve/COVID-19 list.

McLaughlin was moved to the team's COVID list just last week. Jacksonville placed WR Trey Quinn (hamstring) on the practice squad to make room for McLaughlin on the active roster. He's made 21-of-26 field goal tries this year, additional sinking all 28 extra-point attempts on the season.

Picked up Carlson for Sanders over the weekend. Going to seriously reconsider that move. It's looking like Sanders is no joke, and with Fitzmagic back, we'll see them move the ball again.

If you need help choosing the worst K amongst 4-5 choices, shoot me a PM.

It’s a gifting, wish I could impart it.

Probably sticking with Carlson again this week over Tucker, based on the matchups. Feels gross carrying two Ks.

The Rams fng Matt Gay has 3 40-49 FGs and a couple of 10.0 outings to start his career, good matchup at ARI this week. He was 11/14 and 5/8 from 40-49 and 50+ with the Bucs last year. Also missed 5 PATs and 2 inside 40 in 2019.

Tyler Bass has had some big games and will be kicking in the 49ers temporary home (Cardinals‘ State Farm Dome) - they’re like 6th in FFPA to K.

If it makes you feel any better, I dropped Koo for Carlson this week.

I knew I wanted either Koo or Carlson last week... tried to put off the decision as long as I could to see what else might happen in some other games. Then someone in my league jumped on Carlson, forcing me to go for Koo or risk another game. So I took Koo by default. Much thanks to that guy.

@Stompin' Tom Connors

Falcons ST coordinator Bernie Parmalee indicated Younghoe Koo (quad) "should" play in Week 13 against the Saints.

For those who still haven't banned kickers in their league, just know Koo, fantasy's overall K1, has been a prodigy with at least 12 fantasy points in six of Atlanta's last seven games. It sounds like he'll be good to go at home on Sunday.

Steelers promoted K Matthew Wright from the practice squad.

He'll replace Chris Boswell, who was downgraded to doubtful for tonight's game with a hip injury. Wright battled Boswell for the starting role at last year's training camp but has been on the team's practice squad since. Wright still holds the University of Central Florida's school record for career points (375) and field goals made (55).

Who do we like for Week 14? I’m dumping Carlson who I’ve used the last two weeks (6.0 & 8.0); top 4 candidates on our wire:

• Meyers v NYJ (gives up the most FFP to Ks)
• Slye v DEN (3rd most)
• Succop v MIN (2nd most)
• Hopkins @ AF (5th most)

Seems like no wrong answers here. I like Hopkins and Meyers based on recent form.

I'm rostering Tucker and considering picking up Succop....

I was able to snag Tucker this week on waivers for the Succop bye which necessitated his dropping.

Tucker @ Cleveland and then home vs JAX then NYG

Succop home vs MINN then on the road (indoor games) vs ATL and DET

I think with the unknown weather variable, I would give the edge to Succop w/ two games guaranteed indoors and against poor defenses of ATL and DET.  Anybody concur? or think that I should roll with Tucker?

I made a move to pick up Succup for the reasons you listed above. Great defense, so should be playing with a lead and not discouraged to kick field goals, good offense, great gamescripts and game environments. You never know how kicker production will unfold, but I like all of these factors.

I have a bye this week and need a kicker for Week 15 (and hopefully 16). Succop is my target to pickup off waivers.

If I can’t get him, I might stick with Gano as long as Daniel Jones returns healthy by then.

Chris Boswell (hip) practiced in full Thursday.

Matthew Wright kicked for the Steelers last week with Boswell sidelined with his hip injury. It looks like Boswell will return for Week 14 against Buffalo. He's in a decent spot in what could be a shootout with the Bills.

Rams elevated K Austin MacGinnis to the 53-man roster ahead of Thursday night's game against New England.

Matt Gay (shoulder) was limited headed into Week 14. It looks like MacGinnis will get the start against the Patriots. MacGinnis made all ten of his field goal attempts for the XFL's Dallas Renegades this year before being signed to LA's practice squad. He's only an option in two-kicker formats.

Rams K Matt Gay (shoulder) is active for Week 14 against the Patriots.

Gay isn't a great fantasy option for a contest with a 43.5 over/under. Inactive for the Rams are K Austin MacGinnis, RB Ray Calais, RB Xavier Jones, OLB Terrell Lewis, C Brian Allen and WR Trishton Jackson.

Zane Gonzalez (back) has been ruled out for Week 14 against the Giants.

Gonzalez will miss at least one game with his back injury. The Cardinals promoted Mike Nugent from the practice squad to replace Gonzalez.

Dec 12, 2020, 12:46 PM ET

With Zane out- my options are:

Zuerlein DAL, @ CIN

Gould SF, vs WAS

Gano NYG, vs ARI

Fairbairn HOU @ CHI

Hopkins WAS @ SF

Wright PIT @ BUF

Nugent ARI @ NYG - Zane's replacement

Not sure what to do, was counting on Zane. Any good streaming options week 14 out of this bunch? Leaning Zuerlein since CIN has given up 10+ fantasy points to kickers 7 games this year
