Bengals WR John Ross III was removed from the team's reserve list after returning to training camp.

Ross left Cincy's camp to care for his son and the child's mother, both of whom tested positive for COVID-19. Ross quietly saw seven targets per game in 2019, and will compete for the team's No. 3 receiver spot this year.

Thoughts on Ross for this year?  Obviously opened last year for Zach Taylor’s offense in a Brandon Cooks type of role, leading the NFL in yards after three weeks. Then he got hurt ... again.

Supposedly he’s taken additional steps to stay healthy this year (regular chiropractor and sports massage therapist sessions, increased yoga and such) and sounds extremely grounded from various quotes in camp. Tyler Boyd called him “unguardable,” and Ross spent the off-season working with TJ Houshamazilli, who has also had glowing comments about Ross.

He’s playing for a new contract after the Bengals declined his fifth year option. Boyd mans the slot and has his role well established.  Green is already hurt - again. Tate is a contested catch specialist that doesn’t separate. Higgins has missed camp time with minor injuries and is a rookie (and seems to be an AJ Green body type clone).

That Cooks-type role still seems to be waiting for Ross. Can he capitalize?

John Ross has been limited in practice with an arm injury.

Ross missed the start of camp for personal reasons. He’s been working off to the side, but it’s yet another setback. Ross needs to get healthy to hold off Tee Higgins and Auden Tate for the No. 3 role.

John Ross is listed as the No. 3 receiver on the Bengals’ Week 1 depth chart.

Ross missed two weeks of camp after he was placed on the COVID-19 list in August. He was also sidelined with an arm injury. Despite that, Ross looks to have an edge for the No. 3 role over Tee Higgins, Auden Tate, and Alex Erickson. Injuries have limited Ross to 24 games the last three seasons.

So far... apparently not.

This guy saw 2 targets on a night Burrow threw the ball 61x. Is this guy even rosterable in dynasty at this point?

Man, I really want to like Ross.  At the University of Washington, Ross was much more than just a track guy playing football.  He appeared to have the tools to excel at the NFL level.  Injuries set him back early, but he just hasn't taken that next step I expected. Depending on roster size, I understand your concern that Ross may no longer be worthy of a roster spot on your dynasty squad.  I might try to hold on a little longer to see if (a) the Cin O-line can improve, and (b) Ross develops some chemistry with Burrow as the season develops.  The dynasty clock is definitely ticking toward that midnight hour . . .

He's getting passed like a Yugo on a NASCAR track by Thomas and Higgins.  Only if you think a WR whisperer can a hold of him elsewhere would he worth it in dynasty.  On top of just 2 blown targets is Burrow really seems to like to spread the ball around (9 different guys had a catch).  If he can't get looks in that scenario tough to see his stock having value.  We'll see if they switch him out for Tate next week.

#Bengals rookie WR Tee Higgins has already worked his way into a top 3 spot on the depth chart.

Week 2 snap rates:

  • Tyler Boyd - 85%
  • Tee Higgins - 65%
  • A.J. Green - 62%
  • Mike Thomas - 35%
  • John Ross - 30%
  • Auden Tate - healthy scratch

Considering how the Eagles been collecting speed receivers, I wonder if a trade with the Bengals (who they play Sunday) for impending free agent John Ross makes sense. Ross fell to fourth on the Bengals' depth chart in Week 2.

I wonder if its someone GB would target...not that I think they want to part with much to get a WR...but St. Brown was their #4 and is now on IR (and has also done absolutely nothing in his career).

I think Ross would provide the Packers with some nice depth.

Its pretty obvious that he's not being re-signed and that Tee Higgins is going to be the guy of the future to pair with Joe Burrows rising star.

Ross was a first round pick a few years ago and has speed to burn.  The Bengals are just not that savvy when it comes to making deals.

I agree the Pack makes a ton of sense on so many levels but more than likely the Bengals will have him wallow on their bench and barely use him.

Yep, I'm standing at the edge of the cliff holding Ross and about to toss him over.  Roster spots are too valuable in dynasty leagues to hold on to this guy, even in a 12 team league with 24 roster spots.

That's where I'm at. 12 team, 25 spots, and he's #25 right now. Been waiting on him for years, and the wait might just be over.

John Ross (coach's decision) is inactive for Week 3 against the Eagles.

Ross was held without a catch on two targets in Week 2 after recording two drops on five targets in Week 1. The Bengals appear to be completely done with Ross and second-round rookie Tee Higgins will get the start in place of him. Higgins is a deep flyer as the new No. 3 receiver for Cincinnati.

Why do they keep him?  Not worth enough in a trade?

Because, Bengals.

Mike Brown will give anybody with a tarnished rep an opportunity (Mixon, Burfict, Pacman, Chris Henry, etc.) searching for a bargain.

On the flip side,  If it costs him a nickel, you aren’t getting cut, and it would hurt him even worse to trade a player and see them succeed elsewhere).

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports John Ross' agent, Brad Cicala, and the Bengals have discussed a potential trade before the November 3 deadline.

The talks apparently didn't "get too far." Ross was activated on Sunday but only played a single snap and didn't record a target. It's clear the organization has mentally moved on from the 24-year-old after declining his fifth-year option over the summer and benching him in Week 2 following a dropped pass. Ross needs a fresh start to have any fantasy value moving forward.

Bengals placed WR John Ross (foot) on injured reserve.

Ross has totaled two catches for the Bengals all year. There was talk about getting him defensive back reps in practice before the injury. It's plausible he's played his last game for Cincinnati since the organization clearly has no interest in re-signing him in free agency. Auden Tate, who logged a season-high 33 snaps and seven targets before the bye, will mix in with A.J. Green for the rest of the season.

Giants signed WR John Ross, formerly of the Bengals, to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

The deal includes $1 million guaranteed. Cincinnati's former No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 draft, 25-year-old Ross flamed out in his final year with the Bengals, getting benched in Week 2 for a costly drop and eventually discussed as a converted cornerback before suffering a season-ending foot injury mid-year. Ross has always been coveted for his 4.22 40-speed but has never put it all together on the field. That's not expected to change under OC Jason Garrett in New York.

John Ross (hamstring) made the Giants' initial 53 man roster.

The Giants kept seven wide receivers as part of their initial 53-man roster, including Ross, Dante Pettis and C.J. Board, who were all believed to be on the bubble. If Ross gets over the hamstring injury that sidelined him most of training camp, and hasn't lost his signature deep speed, he could complicate matters a bit for Darius Slayton.

Giants placed WR John Ross (hamstring) on injured reserve.

Ross didn't play in the preseason and barely played at all in training camp. It's, unfortunately, news that has been pretty synonymous with the speedster's career. Even in a new situation in New York, he just can't stay healthy. Ross had started just 20 games in four years in Cincinnati before joining the Giants on a one-year deal. New York re-signed wideout C.J. Board in a corresponding move.

Giants designated WR John Ross (hamstring) for return from injured reserve.

Ross would normally be a depth option for the Giants but with Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton both suffering hamstring injuries in Week 3 and with Kenny Golladay and Evan Engram both at less than full health, he could see meaningful playing time when he returns. The Giants have 21 days to activate Ross to their 53-man roster or he will revert to season-ending IR.

John Ross caught 3-of-4 targets for 77 yards and a touchdown (?) in the Giants' Week 4 win over the Saints.

With Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) both on the shelf, Ross made his presence felt in his 2021 debut after coming off injured reserve this week. The play of the game was Ross' 52-yard touchdown in the second quarter, which could turn into a scoring headache for fantasy services. Ross, who still has truly blazing speed, got a step on the Saints' entire secondary but fumbled at the goal line, recovering in the end zone to preserve the touchdown. We still are not quite clear how it is going in the books thanks to some box score confusion. It was a huge real life effort for the fifth-year pro, but you don't need us to tell you it's probably not repeatable, especially with Shepard and Slayton due back soon. There is zero reason to take a flier in 12-team leagues.

John Ross caught 1-of-5 targets for 16 yards in the Giants' Week 5 loss to the Cowboys.

Ross had a fourth quarter touchdown called back when replay showed he had not corralled the ball and gotten two feet in bounds. Kadarius Toney emerged as the Giants' alpha wideout against the Cowboys -- totaling 189 yards on ten receptions -- making Ross a volatile downfield threat until Darius Slayton (hamstring) and Kenny Golladay (knee) can return to the lineup. Ross could see a full complement of snaps in Week 6 against the Rams, offering him some deep league appeal.
