NFL and Covid Issues - Initially Asked in Shark Pool To Keep it 100% NFL (4 Viewers)

When will we know more about this whole Raiders thing...I have too many things riding on that one.

Jacobs and Jones in two of my starting spots...and injuries to Mostert, M. Thomas and bye weeks for D. Parker are making my options limited in flexing someone...Id slide Lindsay into my RB2 I guess.  But would have to make a move for a flex spot.
Per NFL.com (~hour ago)... no new positive cases from yesterday's testing... looking good (by 2020 standards).

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports all the Raiders have returned all negative COVID-19 tests and their Week 7 game against the Buccaneers will be played.

The Saints also reported no positive tests ahead of Week 7. Las Vegas will be without RT Trent Brown, who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week. Brown came into close contact with C Rodney Hudson, G Gabe Jackson, G/T Denzelle Good, and LT Kolton Miller, all of whom were at risk of missing this game. With the exception of Brown, the Raiders' line will be at full strength this week.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reports the Raiders "will be fined very heavily" and could have draft picks taken away because of violations of the COVID-19 rules.

Glazer added that the severity of the punishment is because Las Vegas has already been cited for breaking the rules previously. The NFL has decided to impose heavy penalties on teams that continue to skirt the rules and the Raiders are an easy team to make an example of. It's not yet known if the Raiders will lose a draft pick or what round that pick may be taken from. However, the loss of more than money should deter other teams from violating the rules.

- Fox NFL Sunday, Jay Glazer
Hope they take picks away.

Raiders had multiple violations of violating the protocol though. When it's a 1-to-1 situation I fully agree, give a warning or fine. When you have 3-4 incidents... yeah.

Texans placed LG Max Scharping on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Texans have closed their team facility after Scharping had a positive COVID-19 test. This comes at a good time with Houston on a bye. The Texans play the Jaguars in Week 9.

I think teams would have a legitimate beef if they start going after draft picks. Why the arbitrary rulings for one team but not the other? Money is money. No one can really complain unless one team is fined a disproportionate amount more than another.

The #Giants have quarantined all but four of their offensive linemen after one tested positive for COVID-19, sources tell me and @RapSheet.

The #Giants are scheduled to host the #Bucs on Monday night. The timing of close contact for the others, and whether they are considered "high risk" exposures, will determine whether they can be cleared in time to play.

The #Giants will place left guard Will Hernandez on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, per source.

More on the #Giants, from me and @MikeGarafolo: Two #Giants coaches were sent home because they were considered COVID-19 close contacts: OLB coach Bret Bielema and DBs coach Jerome Henderson. So now several OL and two coaches.

Emmanuel Sanders said that Covid would be keeping him out of two games so go ahead and put away any hope you had of him playing this week.

He also expanded on how he found out about being positive. Said the night before his wife told him she could not smell or taste. Does not tell anyone this, shows up to practice the next day and says he was not feeling well. Tries to run some routes and eventually tells trainers he does not feel well and about his wife so they end up sending him to two doctors who both tested him positive.

My thoughts on this is that it was very surprising he was either that careless or not educated enough to realize his wife reporting no smell/taste and not feeling well the next day was a cause for concern and a reason to not be at at the facility until you were clear. And my other thought was that had he not reported this to the trainers whatever system the league is using did not catch it, probably would have next day but if he had never reported to the trainers he'd have been symptomatic in the facility all day.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports a Broncos offensive lineman and Vikings linebacker tested positive for COVID-19.

This comes after the Broncos placed OL coach Mike Munchak under COVID-19 protocols Thursday. It's the second player case for the Vikings, who sent CB Cameron Dantzler to the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier this week. Both teams will need no new positive tests over the next two days for their games to be played.

Rotoworld seems to have added the underlined themselves - here is the actual ESPN Article, and is says nothing about "Both teams will need no new positive tests over the next two days for their games to be played":

ESPN

The Denver Broncos have postponed practice Friday after a player tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced.

A source told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the player is an offensive lineman.

Broncos coach Vic Fangio informed his team that it will conduct virtual meetings Friday. The Broncos are expected to practice Saturday ahead of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

"We were informed early this morning that a Broncos player has tested positive for COVID-19," the Broncos said in a statement. "The player is at home in self-isolation along with two other players who were determined to be close contacts. Our organization, which has been operating under the league's intensive protocols, is in consultation with the NFL and taking guidance from medical experts.

"As a precaution, we have made the decision to postpone today's practice and conduct virtual meetings in preparation for Sunday's game against the Chargers. The team is scheduled to return to UCHealth Training Center for practice tomorrow."

Broncos offensive line coach Mike Munchak has been in the NFL's COVID-19 protocols this week and has not been in the team's complex or attended practice. On Thursday, Fangio would not say whether Munchak had tested positive for COVID-19 and did not offer a timetable for his return.

Denver running backs coach Curtis Modkins tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month and did not travel to the Broncos' game against the New England Patriots on Oct. 18. Modkins has been back with the team this week.

A Minnesota Vikings linebacker also tested positive for COVID-19, a source said. The Vikings had coronavirus-related concerns after facing the Tennessee Titans amid the outbreak on that team but did not report a positive test at that time.

The Vikings are scheduled to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

The Broncos had no new positive COVID-19 tests on Saturday.

Denver had no players or coaches that were high-risk close contacts to RG Graham Glasgow (reserve/COVID-19). It means they'll have RT Demar Dotson and backup RG Austin Schlottmann for a spot start Sunday. The Broncos' Week 8 game against the Chargers remains on as scheduled.

The Packers are slated to meet virtually Monday after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

This is the day's second bit of concerning COVID news after the Cardinals reported two positive COVID-19 tests Monday morning. Missing in-person practice could be dicey this week for the Packers, who have a Thursday night date with the 49ers.

A.J. Dillon, and he tested positive Sunday pre-game.

EDIT: Baltimore Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey tested positive Sunday pre-game too

Where are you getting they tested positive pre game?  I didn't think they tested on Sundays

Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero

The NFL and NFLPA agreed to game-day PCR testing for COVID-19 starting in Week 6

...

Clarifying for those unfamiliar with the testing cadence: Everyone tests Sunday morning, but don't get results until late Sunday/early Monday. That’s how A.J. Dillon and #Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey played Sunday, only to learn today they're positive for COVID-19.
Sunday morning isn't necessarily pre-game

Rotoworld:

Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey said on Twitter that he has COVID-19.

Humphrey played Sunday against the Steelers. The Ravens will use contact tracing to see which players and staffers were close to Humphrey in recent days. All players are tested Sunday morning but results aren't available until late Sunday or early Monday. A spate of positive tests for the Ravens would complicate preparation for Week 9's game against the Colts.

Packers placed RB AJ Dillon on the reserve/COVID-19 list

He's been ruled out for Week 9. Dillon played Sunday against the Vikings, rushing five times for 21 yards and catching one pass for 16 yards. Contact tracing is underway to see who has been in close contact with Dillon (presumably several Vikings defenders). NFL Network's Tom Pelissero said "the NFL and its medical experts have found no evidence of on-field transmission" this year. All players are tested Sunday morning but results aren't available until late Sunday or early Monday, a breathtaking shortfall in the league's COVID protocols. Dillon's positive virus test comes as COVID-19 cases explode in Wisconsin -- one of many virus hot spots in the US. In their run up to Thursday night's game against the 49ers, Green Bay could be faced with tough choices if any other running back was determined to have contact with Dillon in the past few days.

This is what I don't understand.  Wouldn't the entire Packers offense fit under this?  For sure some of the Vikings defenders.

If it's aerosol spread they're concerned with, "close contact" also involves a time element. Probably no one Vikings players was within several feet of Dillon for minutes at a time. Fellow Packers players on the bench and in the locker room, however, probably were.

Having said that ... droplet spread while being tackled, blocking, etc. can definitely still happen and doesn't require any more than a moment.

Love how six weeks ago a single positive test was resulting in rescheduled games and uncertainty moving forward.  Now?  Kind of seems like the NFL realized the season wouldn’t happen under those pretenses and has just said “#### it.”

Seems pointless to test Sundays then.
Exactly what i was thinking. Either test that the results are known before kickoff or the morning after the game.
Saturday's tests, it seems like, are meant to "clear" a player for Sunday's games because the results come in before gametime. I guess the new Sunday morning tests are to help contact tracing and get an earlier jump on isolating infected players -- under the old testing scheme, Dillon wouldn't have been a known positive until Tuesday morning at the earliest.

Question: Why doesn't the league have all players take duplicate (or, really, triplicate) rapid tests a few hours before games? They'd get results back in less than an hour (less than 30 minutes, I believe). With a ~70% accuracy rate for a single swab, two swabs gets you to 93% accuracy and three swabs gets you to 97.9% accuracy. For those wondering -- a fourth swab gets you to 99.34% accuracy.

There was info recently that it could be cumulative. Was presented in the context of a coworker you were with for only minutes, but several times during the day.

An unnamed Browns player is displaying COVID-19 symptoms.

"This morning, an active player who has not been in the facility today reported that he is experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms," the team said in a statement. The Browns, who had a COVID outbreak scare in August, will conduct its Monday meetings remotely.

Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey missed practice last Wednesday with an illness.

Humphrey wasn't isolated because he tested negative for the virus. On Monday morning, he said on Twitter that he have COVID-19. The Ravens are conducting contract tracing to mitigate the spread of the virus in their team facility. Meanwhile, the Steelers -- who played the Ravens on Sunday -- reported no positive COVID-19 tests.

The Steelers reported no positive COVID-19 tests Monday.

It's a relief after the Steelers played the Ravens and CB Marlon Humphrey, who tested positive for the virus but didn't know about the results until after the game. Through a spokesperson, the Steelers said they would continue observing strict COVID protocols while they prepare to play Dallas in Week 9.
