Why is Johnny Cash’s “Rowboat” on the Tom Petty Mix? It was a cover of a Beck song.

Is there a Heartbreaker connection I’m missing?

Round 210.xx

Category: Second Wave

Song: Good Morning, Captain

Artist: Slint

Since Eephus picked Ride, I'll pick their American cousins in Slint. The progenitors of post-rock, by some accounts. The spoken word is interrupted by a joyful guitar buzz/bliss that never lasts too long and never quite gives the listener the easy pay-off. But there are squalls to be had, so if you do listen, enjoy them, because this song is quiet tension and quite intense.

Yeah, Petty played guitar on the track and the Heartbreakers were the backing band. He played on all of Unchained.

eta* It's also a song where the backing band is prominent. It's not a solo acoustic effort or anything. There sounds like slide guitar, steel guitar, etc., so I went with this one instead of the obvious Cash selection of "I Won't Back Down." I thought it was the best song off of Unchained when I was in my twenties. I like Beck's abstract songwriting with Cash's straightforward delivery.

Rd 211: Fermin’ Good Again by Robert Earl Keen

This song gives me great spring is coming and life is returning to normal vibes. It was sunny this morning and not too cold. Put a smile on my face.

A chill north wind was blowin'
But the spring was comin' on
As I wondered to myself
Just how long I had been gone

So I strolled across old Main Street
Walked down a flight of stairs
Stepped into the hall
And saw all my friends were there
A neon sign was flashin', "Welcome, come on in"
It feels so good feelin' good again

Song: Living For The City

I love this song. I had a different song in mind but I wanted to pick a song out of Stevie's catalogue -- a catalogue that I'm an admitted novice about -- that he personally wrote rather than a song that someone else had written for Motown. Shout out to @Uruk-Hai  for any relevant background when this channel kicks into full gear today. As some might know, he started the Stevie thread that we have in the FFA.

My favorite Stevie song.

RIP James Burke of 70s Chicago soul act The Five Stairsteps.  They were a family act consisting of James, his sister and three brothers.

The Five Stairsteps - O-o-h Child  (SoulTown bonus pick)

O-o-h Child was their biggest Pop hit but it was originally issued as the B-side to the Burkes' cover of Dear Prudence.
Taken by RA a billion years ago.  I only know this because I later tried to take it, too.

ETA:  It's on Classic Rewind.

Take a Giant Step?  I've never seen it, but turned it on to check it out briefly.
Yep, it’s a pretty rarely seen movie but significant for the time in terms of putting Black stories on film.
Mrs. Eephus is watching it in the other room. She said it's kind of soapy but it gives a rare and interesting glimpse into 50s middle class AA life.

I'm watching hoops :bag:
