424.NV - Back To You - Brett Anderson - Goin' Solo (lead singer of Suede)
Let's make it a double play... this could definitely fall under politico too.

423.NV - Running the World - Jarvis Cocker - Goin' Solo

The free market is perfectly natural
Do you think that I'm some kind of dummy?
It's the ideal way to order the world
"#### the morals, does it make any money?"
If you don't like it, then leave
Or use your right to protest on the street
Yeah use your right, but don't imagine that it's heard
Not while ####s are still running the world
####s are still running the world, yeah
####s are still running the world, yeah
####s are still running the world, oh
####s are still running the world
####s are still running the world
####s are still running the world

It's an ilov80s style day! Tomorrow too, most likely.

Round 327:

A. Working for a Living

Sedan Delivery -- Neil Young and Crazy Horse

I'm thinkin' of no one in my mind
Sedan delivery is a job I know I'll keep
It sure was hard to find

Hard to find, hard to find a job
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find, hard to find
Hard to find
Oh

&

With that, all of side 2 of Rust Never Sleeps has been drafted, as has all but one song from Side 1.

B. Go Cat Go

Wonderin' -- Neil Young and the Shocking Pinks

This is the one good original on Neil's rockabilly album, which was produced for the sole purpose of trolling Geffen Records after they asked him to make a "rock and roll record" following the synths and vocoders of Trans. That's probably because it wasn't tossed off, but was a reworking of a song he initially performed live in 1970 with Crazy Horse and considered for inclusion on After the Gold Rush. The non-rockabilly versions are better, but the rockabilly version has a certain charm to it, along with a fun video. @Mister CIA probably approves of this selection.

Round 427

Moar Cowbell

Almost took this for album openers until I noticed what I think is cowbell throughout. Also noteworthy for the recording debut of guitarist Neal Schon who was only 17 at the time. He does the solo for this track while Carlos handles the rhythem. He and Greg Roller would leave the band to form Journey after this album.

Santana- Batuka

This was on my list!

Schon and Rolie stayed for Caravanserai, and left after that.

Round 427.xx

Category: Go Cat Go

Song: Greenback Dollar (Watch And Chain)

Artist: Ray Harris

Probably my favorite Rockabilly tune. From Sun Records. Anecdote: This prompted our collegiate music critic, who would later write for Grantland and Rolling Stone (total name drop but I don't mind if I do) to call into my stupid little radio show for the college radio station and request some punkabilly, if I had any. I played some. We chatted a bit, and he seemed to dig it, so they then moved me to Thursday night prime time the next semester, but I couldn't seem to keep myself within FCC limits at that age, so I transferred back to my original show, which was Sunday, 1-3 A.M., attendance optional by the DJ himself. That was all very cool, in retrospect. Dig it, daddy! The punkabilly song I should have played (I played him Memphis's The Oblivians, I think, who I don't really like), in retrospect?

Round 428.xx

Category: Go Cat Go

Song: Psycho For Your Love

Artist: The Meteors

This is more like it.

Listening to other music with Mrs. NV so no link but....

427.NV - Scorpion Hill - PUP - Working for a Living

I love these lyrics so much, they're very Frightened Rabbit-y, I think it's my favourite PUP song.

Time and time again, well I've tried and failed
To get my act together
And I'll admit lately things really went off the rails
I know that you deserve better

But in the morning, as I was boarding
The commuter train to work
The boss was calling, he said: "There's been cutbacks and
I'm sorry you're the first"
And If I can't support the two of us
How can I support a third?

Down and Out, I've been on the rocks
I've been having some pretty dark thoughts

And I'm on the brink
Fallin' deep into debt
Fallin' deep into drink
I can drown those regrets
I don't have to think

Now I'm working the night shift
Asleep at the wheel
I was bursting apart like a flame from a spark
Thinkin 'Jesus, this can't be for real'

My sweat soaked mattress
Corner of the room
Cigarettes and Matches
In the fading afternoon
And a picture my kid, ya he's smiling
It's the first day of school

She said: I found the gun, it was buried beneath
Piles of clothes in the room where your son sleeps
And I can't pretend, to know how this will end

Go Cat Go  -  Go! Go! Go! (Down the Line)  -  Roy Orbison

I can't see any other Orbison on the draft sheet.  That might be a crime.

I picked the mature version from Black And White Night 30.

It's very dancable.
I thought he was drafted a long time ago, but you're right there is nothing on the draft sheet. I like the song you drafted. I've never heard it before.

That concert is excellent (and availbale on YouTube).  Seems like you might recognise some of those other performers.

This is my third weekend in Durham. Last weekend I came to visit to see The Wood Brothers. They were good. Today I came late afternoon to spend the night until early evening tomorrow with Miss Maya. Her parents had to go out of town to see about a family member.  This is Maya napping in the late day sun passing through the pines.

428.8 - Mac Curtis feat. Ray Campi - Rollin' Rock Rock  (Go Cat Go)

428.12 - Charlie Feathers - That Certain Female  (Go Cat Go)

428.428 - The Blasters - Never No Mo' Blues (Go Cat Go)

Rockin' Ronny Weiser is an unsung hero of Rock 'n Roll. His Rollin' Rock records was like the Motown or Stax of the late 70s Southern California Rockabilly revival.

The 4-track recordings he made in his home featuring old guys from the 50s and 60s and young guns from the current scene capture the raw intensity of the music.

Tomorrow's categories in case anyone forgot:

META-static radio - songs referencing other artists/songs/albums
This is the Beginning - songs with great intros
The Velvet Underground and bands who bought their album
Back 40 (Songs about the countryside and the rural thing

So my wife and her new friends were out hunting cats last night. Around 1130pm the leader saw a Facebook message from another woman asking for help dealing with an injured swan on 8 Mile. They were less than 2 miles away so wrapped up what they were doing and headed on over. They met up with the woman who posted and 4 other people who were driving by and stopped to help.  They worked together to move the swans from the road and onto a side street. As they were wondering what to do next a local radio DJ came home to find a group of 7 people and 2 swans on his front lawn. A couple residents also came out to see what was going on. One of them said he had an empty dog kennel they could put them in so the DJ and neighbors went and got some sheets and blankets. These 12 people ,who had mostly never met before ,worked together to herd the swans into the kennel. An hour later(1am) the swans were in a kennel and placed in the back of a pickup truck of some lady who did bird rescues and would take them somewhere to get fixed up in the morning.

Pretty incredible and heart warming that 12 strangers would give their time and effort to help some animals. 7 were black and 5 white and between 30-60 years old. I was almost crying by the time my wife finished telling this story- maybe there is hope for the future after all.
