Cleveland Browns (14 Viewers)

MY point was, and still is, that there is an all-pro available. You addressed it by implying that upgrading talent at that position is of dubious value because he can't score points. This makes you an imbecile.

:goodposting:

Scoring points and having an effective offense begins with winning the line of scrimmage. That is especially important when you have poor quality QBs, slow WRs who need time to get open if they are going to run routes longer than 10 yards, and young RBs who can use the extra help blocking. Mathis would be an upgrade for most teams in the league, including CLE. I hope the Giants get him and if not, then CLE.

Our offensive line currently has five top 40 picks on it.

Our offense is terrible.

Define, insanity.
Insanity is going after sub par players at QB in hopes that you win a longshot lottery.

With average QB play last year we make the playoffs. We had far worse than average QB play.

Now sure, the idea is to land a stud QB.........................but there needs to be someone available for that.

Don't make me shake the Bridgewater stick at you.

Dont make me shake the "take Johnny at 4" stick at you

And in case you forget, I was fine taking Teddy at 23, ESPECIALLY over Johnny suck ###

You were so QB hungry you wanted them to take ANY of the QBs at 4, in case you forgot.

Incorrect.

I wanted Bridgewater.

I wanted the Browns to take a qb at 4 or not at all.

Picking one where they did is a repeat of the same mistake they have repeatedly made. Looking for a value rather than going and getting their guy.

I know you PREFERRED Teddy, but you said to take any of the QBs at 4.

Many of us felt Teddy could easily be there at that late 1st round pick, which he was, they just botched the pick.

Unless you are saying taking Teddy at 4 would be better than taking Teddy at 23.................which is silly

Nobody else reading this cares, so please walk away, do your homework (since you care so much), and realize how wrong you are.

I won't bring it up again unless you do something stupid like this again.

I think I would rather have you bring it up, but that's your call. Thanks for telling me I am wrong without actually telling me what I am wrong about. Par for the course.

I agree nobody cares anyway.

I am not wasting my time defending myself because you decided to spew some bs. Go prove yourself wrong or drop it. Whatever you decide nobody cares.

Something to get this thread back on track, I guess... Browns excited about direction of the offense: 'We’re getting there'
The Cleveland Browns have a good feeling after OTAs and minicamp that their offense is on the right track with veteran quarterback Josh McCown leading the way.

“We're a new group and anytime you come together as a new group, there are going to be growing pains,” McCown said, via ClevelandBrowns.com.

“For us, we understand, especially within this division and the offenses that it has and the quarterbacks on the other teams, that we've got to set the bar high early and hold ourselves to a high standard in order to speed up that learning curve. While there will be bumps in the road as we've learned, still the standard has to be high. That's where we are right now.”

“When you’re in the installation phase of an offense, to me, you’re crawling,” said coach Mike Pettine.

“We’re going to install a lot. We’re going to throw a lot at our guys and see what we can retain. Then, sit back as coaches and look at, ‘Here’s what we do well,’ and go ahead and highlight that.”

“We’re getting there,” offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said. “I’m really excited. I’m hoping we get some continuity early in training camp so we even find that out even more, but we are getting there.”

Nobody does care but both of you are right. Mac was pimping Teddy at 4 when it was obvious to pretty much everyone else that Bridgewater was going to fall.

Pretty much everyone felt Johnny would go before our 26 pick but Ghost was fine with taking Teddy at 26, same with me. Mac was thee pimp of Teddy at 4 but I was with him until it was obvious he was going to fall but one thing Mac failed to mention is he was pimping 'moving-up' for Teddy from our #4 pick early on. He was able to move from that position but he dug his heels in on taking Teddy at 4 when everyone else had moved on from that one.

But in the end it doesn't matter. Haslam blew it by forcing the trade-up and Pettine got into the ear of Farmer to take Gilbert instead of OBJ or the guy I wanted, C.J. Mosely after the trade-down with Buffalo.

So if you really want to get sick we could have had the trade down with Buffalo and gotten the extra:

- 1st

and

- 4th round picks

- drafted OBJ at 9

- saved the 5th round pick we blew to move-up one spot to take Gilbert

- not moved up to the 22nd pick to take JFF saving the 3rd round pick

- drafted Teddy at 26

And instead of trading-up for West we had the 3rd round pick so we could have used the extra picks to take a WR like Martaveous Bryant who I wanted in the 4th round and it really is insane how much better we could have been if not for blowing those top-two picks last year.

We could have OBJ and Martevious Bryant and Teddy plus extras. Instead Gilbert and JFF. But Haslam got to flex his ego and Pettine got to understand he isn't a personnel guy. Yeah, that really helps us.

I was convinced it was all a smoke screen until a week or two before the draft when it was obvious teams were hilariously looking for reasons to knock him down.

I still would have picked him #4 though. Or at the very least take the Buffalo trade then pick him. He's a quality starting quarterback. Don't get cute, just pick him.

I thought the long term agreement that the city of Cleveland signed with the NFL stated the Browns would not play ANY home games outside the new stadium in the terms of the lease that the city drew up when we paid the ransom to build the stadium for the NFL.

London Calling? New NFL Agreement Likely Means Browns Will Have To Play At Least Once OverseasBy DARYL RUITER, 92.3 The Fan Browns Beat ReporterJuly 8, 2015 12:29 PM

CLEVELAND (92.3 The Fan) – The Cleveland Browns will eventually have to play at least 1 game in London in the coming years.

It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.

It says they will play once. Doesn't say it will be a home game.

I popped in here to dispute the Gabbert-ing of McCown. I wanna be the first to predict good results for him, unless he gets injured, and the team.

Further musings: I like this roster, so... If you swapped QBs & top WR with PIT, would the Browns be championship contenders?

All you have to do is swap QBs with Pitt and they'd be championship contenders IMO. Clev has a terrific Oline. With Ben back there he'd make the existing group of skill guys look about 10x better. I also really like the talent on D.

I think McCown will do well. He's at his worst when there is no protection up front - like in TB. With Mack back at C, the line is solid and one of the best in the league. As long as McCown stays up right, he should have plenty of opportunity to find this ragtag group of WRs. I also think that the running game will be the primary focus, so McCown shouldn't be asked to do much more than manage the game and keep the ball moving down the field when Crowell isn't pounding it between the tackles.

I don't think this is a championship roster - but with that said, I can see them making it tough on teams again this year. The defense should be as good, if not improved over last year, and the running game should be solid with another year under their belt and a healthy oline.

The Browns would be a contender but I don't know if Big Ben would make our skill guys look 10x.

But Pittsburgh isn't giving us Big Ben and I have no idea what to expect from a 37 year old journeyman QB.

First day with pads on. Some injuries, (DE Billy Wynn right knee no report, RB Terrene West, RB Duke Johnson (hamstring), some struggles on offense (McCowan looked sharp but then struggled, Thad-Lew struggled, Johnny was making some throws but would have been sacked and probably should have thrown a pick), DBs looked good and their was a minor fight.

Here are some tweets from the first pad day of practice.

My 3 standouts from Browns camp today: FB Malcolm Johnson, LB Barkevious Mingo, CB Pierre Desir

Browns have head coach Mike Pettine who was in Baltimore with Ray Rice and Running back coach Wilbert Montgomery who also was with Ray Rice in Baltimore and was his positional coach and I would guess that all 32 NFL teams have discussed Ray Rice. Considering the recent injuries to the Browns RBs and the comments that Browns RB coach Wilbert Montgomery made that none of the RBs have stepped-up to take control as the lead running back the beat writers asked if the team had discussed Rice and Pettine said yes.

Now consider that in response to the domestic violence storm the league faced after the Ray Rice PR fiasco the league took many steps. One step was to form a six person committee to conduct an annual review of the domestic violence policy to make sure it is up to date.

Note that Dee Haslam the wife of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was one of six people appointed to the committee.

NFL toughens policy addressing assault and domestic violenceBy Josh Levs, CNN

Updated 10:45 PM ET, Wed December 10, 2014

...A new conduct committee will include Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell, Falcons owner Arthur Blank, Chiefs owner Clark Hunt, Bears owner George McCaskey and Texans owner Robert McNair. Other members are Dee Haslam, the wife of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam; Cowboys Executive Vice President Charlotte Jones Anderson and two former players who hold ownership stakes -- Warrick Dunn and John Stallworth.

Their job will be to review the policy at least once a year.

I wouldn't look for the Browns to sign Rice unless it is a dire emergency.

Any Browns homers, who do you think would be the better late round flyer in a PPR league?

R. Housler or A.Hawkins?

Which one could be a decent bye week filler or even develop into a flex play late in the season?

Easily Hawkins. Housler should not be owned, in redraft or dynasty.

(Rotoworld) Browns LT Joe Thomas revealed he's played through three MCL tears in his career, in addition to two high ankle sprains. Analysis: This more gives us an opportunity to highlight Thomas' Ripkenian durability streak; he has never missed a game in eight NFL seasons while making eight straight Pro Bowls. He's played 7,917 consecutive offensive snaps. Still only 30 years old, Thomas is under the Browns' control through the 2018 season.

Meh. He's struggled with drops early in camp but it's still early. Prior to this camp, the comments from the coaching staff and other observers was very positive.
