7-year-old girl killed in Detroit police raid (1 Viewer)

1 will get you 10 that the posters railing the cop have had a confortation with the police from their past and they lost out.
My uncle's a state trooper and I'd love for him to always be safe in his job. My opinions follow the logic that in the course of apprehension, all care must be taken so that innocents are not injured, because behaving recklessly flies in the face of stopping crime in the first place. Now there are two dead children, thanks to the person who killed the teenager, and thanks to the carelessness of the officer. Only one of them has a duty to protect and serve, however. I'd hate to live in a flat or apartment building and have someone I love killed accidentally just on account of hoping to catch a criminal. It's not worth it. There has to be a better way to catch criminals.
Well, if going to the criminal to arrest them isn't a good way, I suppose we could always wait for the criminal to turn themselves into the police.
Yeah. Or, when going to arrest the criminals, you maybe think twice before throwing a gas grenade in a house with children or indiscriminately discharging firearms without at least seeing another weapon or other indication of aggression toward the police or others. But maybe that's asking too much?

Are those the only choices? Racist cowboys or anarchy?
Was this cop racist?
We don't know yet. But we were talking in generalities up there in the thread because we don't know a lot of the facts yet.
But "cowboy" is certainly looking like an accurate description, as the girl was not only shot, but burned by the grenade. They were either really unlucky with their aim of both the gun and grenade, or they were aiming at something they thought they saw. Even though the suspect was in the other apartment, (and has yet to be charged.)

IMO the tactics that were used were fine, they are done like this all the time when the Detroit police are looking for a cold blooded murderer. We also don't know why a 7 year old girl was sleeping on a couch on a screened in porch, where the bullet actually came from and if the Grandmother of the child was involved in a scuffle that resulted in the gun firing. UNtil the investigation is complete I wouldn't read too far into the lawyers video claims (the video was not by A&E and is allegedly low quality).
"The father of Aiyana Jones, a 7- year-old girl fatally shot in a Detroit police raid, is now becoming the focus of the investigation.Police say the girl's father, Charles Jones, may be involved in a murder.
The timing of this raid was terrible though. Why they aren't making early morning raids at sunrise where visibility is better is the biggest question here. Who raids a home at midnight? You have a better chance of catching people sleeping in these neighborhoods at 11 am.

Interesting that in comparison, there was little to no outrage two weeks ago when the Detroit cop was killed and four other cops wounded...

Cops put their life on the line to do their duty, which is why they are so respected (and are being ardently defended in this thread). A 7 year old girl, even if her father is a murderer, in innocent and more care needs to be taken that innocents aren't injured. She never had a chance. The cops who were wounded have training, weapons and armor of their own.Comparing the two isn't fair, because you're implying that people don't care that cops get killed. That's not right at all.

What amazes me is that there at least 2-3 kids/people killed a week in drive by shootings in Detroit with zero outrage.

A kid was accidently killed while trying to arrest a known murderer and people are going haywire?? A horrible accident without a doubt, but in the mean time there are hundreds of people murdered a year in Detroit by criminals and nobody really cares.
What amazes you? That cops are held to a higher standard than criminals? Of course they are. Those criminals doing drive-by shootings are worthless pieces of ####. They are behaving exactly how we expect them to behave - like worthless pieces of ####.

Cops, on the other hand, are supposed to protect and serve. They are supposed to behave better than common thugs. They aren't supposed to be cowboys or racists. Unfortunately, far too often, they fail this standard. And that is extremely damaging to society.
Of course they are. In chaotic situations where tensions are running high sometimes mistakes are made. Like a QB who throws an INT in a big game, the pressure of the situation forced a bad decision. Only this is not a game. It is easy to play armchair QB sitting in a warm safe home.

There was an accidental shooting while trying to arrest a murderer. I feel bad for all involved.
When dealing with life and death, a coach wouldn't put his QB in position to throw an INT. Military style raids of unsuspecting people inside their homes is a risk not worth taking.

A somewhat interesting side note, Feiger is also representing the family of a student of mine. Monday morning a Dearborn police officer struck her SUV as she turned onto the street. The mother of my student was killed and her sister badly injured. The car was not a fully marked patrol car. There have been witness reports indicating that the police car did not have their lights or sirens on and was going too fast (completely rolled the SUV on a street with 35 mph speed limit). Sadly, he was racing to a report of a possible fire. It turned out to be a man burning leaves in his backyard. A horrible situation and apparently Feiger is looking for a 2nd case against a police department.

That is the kind of stuff Fieger lives on.

Cop in Aiyana shooting helped needy kids, sued for earlier raid

"The man who allegedly fired the shot that killed a 7-year-old girl during a raid Sunday spent his free time helping kids in need.

The man who appeared regularly on "The First 48," a cable television true-crime show, also is accused in a federal lawsuit of being part of a team that broke into a home, shot two dogs and pointed a pistol at children, including an infant."

I remember him from Detroit SWAT.
