Looks like I may be heading to NO for a long weekend sometime between May-August (flexible at this time). Are there events going on that I should specifically target? Not likely that I can scramble down for the Jazz festival, so interested in other offerings I may be unaware of.
Hmmm...while there are always a ton of different festivals going on in new orleans, typically the major ones avoid the summer months because of the heat. Greek Fest is during Memorial Day weekend, and is a lot of fun. If that doesn't do it, check out http://www.nola.com/festivals/ for some more details. Any specific questions, feel free to post.
Essence Fest is during July 4th weekend.
Or you can opt for the poor man's Essence Fest when the Falcons come to town...

When does the brutal heat start? Is it still reasonable in the mid-late May timeframe?

I would say the worst months for the heat are July-September. Obviously, the earlier the better. You should be fine for May (although it may be brutally hot for you depending on what you're used to)

Heading to N.O. Monday-Wednesday, though won't have much free time as it will be work intensive. Hope to hit Tipsy's at least.

Where are you staying?
SpringHill Suites (Marriott) - 301 St. Joseph Street by the convention center, I think. But I can cab it anywhere, won't have a car.

Gordon Biersch is the "official" place to watch Hornets games - there are plenty of TVs. It's a chain restaurant/brewry, but it's a pretty good one. Depending on game time, I would plan to drink and watch the game here and then eat somewhere else. You can walk here from your hotel. I recommend eating at Drago's in the Riverfront Hilton....you can also walk there from your hotel and it's caddycorner to Gordon Biersch. You'll also be able to walk to the casino right here as well.Depending on the game time, I might be able to meet you for a beer or two

So for some reason I thought the game was at 6:00. I have a 7:00 meeting, so hopefully I can give my report and leave. Either way, I'll be there by the 2nd half.

Give me a ring as well. Or a PM
Sounds like it's a go.Im the short jew from NY who likes beer. Go Hornets!
I'm the fat Irish Guy who doesn't like Basketball..... Gonna See if MRS CCF want to come as well.
Wait...i'm a fat Irish Guy too. Don't make me out drink you tonight.

Announcement:

Tipsy must bail tonight. I can barely walk guys.

Sorry.
As previously said, i doubt i can be anywhere until 8:30....so not where this thing stands?
As of now, we are on hold. Unless Tipsy gets a second wind and/or you get out early, it seems a no go. I will probably hit Gorden Biersch if only because you all said its a decent place to watch the game and its only a half mile from my hotel... plus I can always scoot accross to the casino and watch some of the game there. That said, Im definately up if you guys are able to make it, so just call/text me.

nice thread. Going to New Orleans for the first time in a couple of weeks for 3 days. Already talked to Tipsy and going to check out his restaurant. Staying at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside.

Any must do's in our short time? (sunday morning 20th to wed morning 23rd).

Sounds like The Joint is a place we should try to eat at? Best seafood place?

Warning: gonna have to cab it to the Joint. Get the cab company's phone # b/c it's not a tourist part of town (near the naval base). One of the best seafood places is located right in your Hotel - Drago's. Get the chargrilled oysters ( a few dozen) as appetizers.....also the stuffed lobster is my favorite entree there, but everything is good. Another good seafood option is Acme Oyster House (a few blocks into the quarter)
