WR Antonio Brown, FA (12 Viewers)

He’s the one that coddled him for years and made him entitled. Pretty clear Tomlin doesn’t hold the stars accountable.
The counter argument is that AB is entitled (wasn't made that way by Tomlin or anyone else) and Tomlin did what he had to do to keep a lid on AB's antics for as long as possible.

I'm surprised that some of you seem to think that the Raiders suspending Brown and voiding all of his guaranteed money is going to have an end result of calming Brown down.

This is the same guy that forced his way out of Pittsburgh when it's still not clear what he was even so upset about. And who threatened to retire because he couldn't wear the helmet he wanted to wear anymore. You think he's going to take the humiliation of losing his guaranteed money and just tuck his tail between his legs and come back and play hard? I just don't see anything that would indicate that is likely.
Not really but this is the only chance they have to get leverage

he's out of football for good if he leaves the Raiders.he'll be blacklisted. it's 100% clear he does NOT want to play for Oaktown, and probably equally clear that he simply does not want to play football anymore.

how did the 'vaunted' Steelers organization allow both he and Bell to act up like this for all these years? who the hell is in control in the steelers front office? wow
Sometimes a "players coach" is not the best style to have with these divas. Respect to Tomlin for getting his players fired up on game day. He's a great cheerleader ... but by being "one of the guys" he's not going to be respected by his players like some other coaches.

Could you imagine these shenanigans from a player on the Patriots? I don't care what their talent level. They would have been long gone before it ever got to this point.

Not sure why any team would take a chance on this clown now.

Had to know he was immature and a knucklehead way back when he was live streaming from the winning locker room during his coaches victory speech.

Naw, if the Raiders cut him the Chiefs immediately come to mind as a team that would sign AB. Charter issues are Ried’s bag. Can you imagine the Chiefs with AB?  Wow!
I remember when the Patriots were the team everyone suggested for every player... I guess this is what we have to look forward to now

So the talk now is the Raiders are looking to void the guaranteed money in the deal (and other player/captains would be ok with the Raiders doing so)?  If they did that, it would void the contract and thus make him a free agent, correct?  He'd be an UFA, right?  There was a theory that the entire helmet thing may have been a ploy just to get an endorsement deal done (haven't seen any more about that since).

Could this just be a ploy to get out of Oakland, where he never wanted to be in the first place (he was traded there)?  In looking at his contract, he has $30m guaranteed on it.  M Thomas just signed a deal with over twice that.  Beckham, too - and Julio may be close to doing the same.  A few other WRs all have signed recent deals with around $50m in guarantees, including Jarvis Landry.  He's obviously coming off as a complete nutjob here, but could there be a sliver of hope that there's a reason for it?

And he'd risk $30m just to get off the Raiders? You're giving him WAY too much credit. The guy has mental issues. There are no ploys.

A narcissist would do exactly what he’s doing if that’s the case. That could be what he’s thinking. Problem is no one would take him on under those demands, it’s not realistic.

Might not be realistic, but could it at least be his thought process?  The Raiders own him for 2, possibly the next 3 seasons otherwise.  Maybe he sees that it's a much worse overall team than the Steelers were, and he never got to a SB there.  If he's a FA, he can go wherever he wants (assuming they want to sign him).  As you said that might not happen, but there could be a team out there that would guarantee him $30m+ in a deal that would likely include outs (like what Oakland is trying to do) that has a better shot a postseason success.

Sure.  Luck risked, and in fact gave up more than that just to be happy, maybe Brown is doing the same but isn't willing to quit the game outright.  I mean Brown has already made over $72m in his career.  I don't know his current financial situation - he may have blown it all away already, but maybe he's already "set" financially in his mind, and he's willing to risk future earnings to go play where he wants to.

Today a reporter that had a recent interview with Antonio stated that he said the only person on the Steelers that told him to be more mature with his bad antics was Big Ben.
Pretty sure that the last person who's word I'd believe about AB's "bad antics" and who said what to him is AB.
Pretty sure other Steelers have said the culture under Tomlin was that of turning a blind eye to some of the star players' bad behavior, and allowing them to play by their own rules.

Assuming a suspension doesn't "void" the contract just the guaranteed clause in it.

As far as the captains thing, no one goes to management and says we're okay with whatever you decide. They are basically saying 'make an example of this fool and we'll support you'.

I don't think he really cares about winning a SB. He's proven he's most interested in 'look at me, pay attention to me'
He doesn't care about winning.  If he did, he would have stayed with a very good Steeler team that always had potential to make it to the SB.   He is crazy.   He got the ton of money that he wanted but is acting worse now than when he was in Pittsburgh.   He needs help.

Narcissists do this stuff, they blow up situations claiming it's one thing when they really just want xyz. They're manipulative and the more power they get over a situation the worse they get. I don't think "ploy" is the right word, it's unconscious. He may be imagining a whole bunch of things but it is possible that he just thinks the Raiders are beneath him, the season will go badly, maybe that he will look badly, and he'd rather be somewhere else. - Having said that his problems are out in the open now, not cloaked in the Steeler culture. I don't see anyone giving him anything guaranteed, he obviously has a problem.

I'll add that maybe his inner motivation isn't a better team or winning or money, it's that really he doesn't want to play football anymore.

From what I've read, voiding the guaranteed money voids the deal entirely and makes him a free agent.

Hard to not do just that when playing in a super bowl, the most televised event in the US every year.  I'm just thinking outside the box here (something AB obviously does on the daily).

Spot on.  If the Raiders cut AB, they should have armed guards prepared to escort him from the facility and remain on high alert.  AB had to be restrained and threatened to punch Mike Mayock in the face over a fine for an unexcused absence from practice.  Given Brown's apparent mental instability, it is hard to predict how he would react to the Raiders voiding Brown's contract and taking $30 million from him.  This has the potential to be a very ugly and dangerous divorce.

I don't believe that to be entirely true.  Tomlin supposedly disciplined AB after the facebook incident and obviously did last season before the Cincinnati game.  Now beyond that I have no idea what other, if any, discipline was handed out to AB.

It was well documented that Roethlisberger began having issues with AB early last season and called him out both privately and publicly.   It didn't help...

It could be but I would be very surprised that any team would offer anywhere close to $30M after this fiasco.  If that is his game I don't think it is going to play out the way he wants it to.

It isn't surprising Tomlin disciplined Antonio for the facebook incident, since it showed Tomlin saying crude things about New England.  AB's bad behavior was so public prior to the Cincinnati game, Tomlin had to do something.  Anyway, several players have said there was a culture problem, and some players were allowed to play by their own rules. Tomlin admitted they needed to change their culture, and he needed to run a tighter ship. I'm sure the Ben and AB drama didn't help, but according to AB to the reporter, Ben is the only one who would call him out on his bad behavior.

Patriots will test his mental well being. If they think they can use him for a year and win it again, they will sign him and then toss him in the nearest garbage can when finished.

If he was cheap the first team that calls him? The Patriots and we all know it.

You don't like Tomlin and that's obviously fine.  But if Tomlin cracked down sooner maybe AB would have erupted sooner.  Either way, AB's behavior is 100% on AB and nobody else.

If Brown is faking insanity to get out of Oakland, it will be the most genius move ever pulled off in the history of the NFL.

So Gruden trades a stand up "Captain" material of a player in Mack because of salary demands ...

and takes on this turd AB at a stupid price tag. REGERTS.

Raiders = Dumpster Fire

Me thinkith Gruden should have stuck with broadcasting.

There's been so many stories from the Steelers, and not all AB. Imo it's why they always underachieve.

Perhaps this has already been discussed, but someone tell me what the rift between Mayock and Brown was and what is the rift between Mayock and Gruden?

Source: #Raiders WR Antonio Brown just issued “an emotional apology” at a team meeting this morning, just now, “with team captains standing with him.”

Not sure there is a rift between Mayock and Gruden other than the Burfict signing. Mayock wants players who are upstanding citizens and Gruden just wants players that can play. Mayock fined AB for all the shenanigans this offseason and AB posted it on Instagram then called Mayock a cracker on the practice field and cursed at him threatening physical violence.

This is pretty much the best-case scenario for us AB owners. Who knows what will happen, but at least he didn't go the other way.

I will never doubt the steelers again. Their trades with raiders netted Mason Rudolph and Dionte Johnson and also devin bush, as the early third used on johnson allowed them to trade their second to move up to get Bush.

Just heard also that he called Mayock a cracker on top of the other stuff. But the race criers wont say a word about this I'm sure. It will get swept under the rug.

The fact he’s there and showing remorse is a good sign but I’m sure his agent clearly spelled out how much his apology is worth.
Oh I'm sure.

I'm just glad he's still willing to listen to someone....for the time being anyway.

Bandaid on a bullet wound. Only a matter of time before it gushes open again. Can you imagine if they still suspend him for Monday and he loses out on that game check?
