Official Robert Griffin III - RGIII RG3

Recommended Posts

I'd rather him just return after the bye at this point. The season is over. No point in rushing him back.

I suspect he will be available before the bye. And their remaining schedule looks very favorable for a fantasy QB, maybe even the best schedule in the league. I think there is still hope for RG3 this season.

From a fantasy standpoint, RG3 certainly is useful the rest of the way. But as for the Redskins, their season is pretty much over at this point. They'd have to go 8-2 just to get to 9-7. I don't see that happening.

The Eagles were 3-6 last year before rattling off 7 straight. It's not over until you are mathematically eliminated.

And the Skins did it in 2012. I just don't see if from this team. I'd love for them to go on a run to the playoffs, but the defense is a mess and the OL isn't much better. Maybe getting RG3 back can help things, but I'm not holding my breath.

I don't buy the "it's not important he comes back because the skins are out of it" talk. They need to see what they have and they need to see him in Gruden's offense. Decisions need to be made and momentum at the end of even a losing season can be important to a franchise. You want to go into the off-season feeling optimistic instead of unsure. He needs to get back on the field as soon as he's able to and they need to compete whether or not they have a chance this season. They obviously still do have a chance. 9-7 may get in and they only have 5 losses. Momentum is a funny thing and it's happened before where a team left for dead gets hot and makes it into the playoffs. If he's cleared to play next Monday night he'll play and he should play.

I agree. He should play. Reps are a good thing even if they have no impact on your current playoff status. But, I do agree with MattFancy in that I don't want to see him "rushed" back. I don't want a hobbled Griffin on the field in an effort to save the season. Not sure that I'd require 100% health, but something close would be good.

I'm not saying he shouldn't come back at all, because he does need to play. I'm just saying they shouldn't feel like they have to rush him back. Make sure he is 100% ready and healed before he gets back out there. That's all I'm asking for.

What's ahead for RGIII ?

First it will be injury, the IR, his outright release after next season, followed by yet another "h8ters gonna h8" marketing campaigne for some crappy team like the dolphins, then life after football.

He isn't a quarterback.

Not only that, but this coach has yet to show he's in charge, that he understands the team's problems and has some answers for them. I get the sense that, in a week or 2 if he hasn't changed things that change the team's performance, players are going to start checking out.

Coach Jay Gruden confirmed Robert Griffin III (ankle) will be the Redskins' starting quarterback once he's cleared and "ready physically and mentally."

Do you have any evidence of this? I've been SPOT ON with your scrub, ol bobby toothpicks. Manzeil has yet to boom or bust so the jury is out. My boy Borrles appears to be fine, too.

Let's just get to the meat of the subject ....Care to make a sig bet or friendly wager on those Dallas/Washington games coming up, fatness?

Manziel can't get playing time because Brian Hoyer is better than he is. In Griffin's first year he was OROY. It's really as plain as that. You're a poor judge of young QB's. You're also a poor judge of how to use the draft, since you wanted the Cowboys to trade .... what was it? Romo and their first round pick to move up to get "I'm playing behind Brian Hoyer" Manziel?

Dallas will beat Washington twice this year. They're a better team, and I'm a realist, unlike you.

So let me get this straight....

I'm a poor judge of QB talent because:

I wanted my cowboys to draft a player who won the Heisman as a freshman, was selected in the first round of the NFL draft, #22 overall but has yet to beat out a 4 year veteran with starting experience?

I've been dead right about RGIII- 1 read QB who is only effective when he's a threat to run, which eventually leads to injury and his eventual early exit from the NFL. You can talk all that crap about rookie of the year all you like. That was all smoke and mirrors using an offense that took the league by storm before teams adjusted. This isn't me only saying that now. I was first, but now everybody says it.

Fatness, you and I have gone back-and-forth with each other pretty friendly over the past 10 years or so and I think you're just letting your Redskins homerism affect this conversation.

It's still early and December's coming when Romo loves the choke it away. I want to quarterback who doesn't throw up all over himself in the big moment so excuse me for wanting to take a gamble on the gambler that's Johnny football.

If I am wrong about Johnny football then so is a whole lot of other highly paid scouts coaches and pundits. It wouldn't be the first time somebody was wrong about a quarterback would it?

Manziel reminds me of RG3. Scrambling gunslingers. RG3 is trying to change his game to fit his OC...which I think is a mistake. Manziel is also a waify guy. What do you think is gonna happen to him once he gets playing time? He's gonna take a shot and probably get hurt. Then they will try to squeeze him into a round hole and he'll be ruined too if he can't adapt.

How many Heisman winners have been absolute turds once they got to the NFL? I'd wager far more than not. So college accolades mean nothing in the NFL game.

I hope they both do well since I like that they are both gamers. But RG3 has been injured and now he's being screwed with mentally. He needs to rise above the mind games and prove his mental toughness, or pray they ship him off to another team that lets him play his game...what he is good at. Manziel could be headed for the same road.

RGIII is NOT trying to change his game to fit the OC, he's trying to turn himself into a pocket passer which he isn't or at least at this point has it been developed into. The coaches know he's a runner not up pocket passer. That's the issue between him and the Shannahan's.

RGIII is the one that doesn't want to be a runner. That's the giant problem he wants to be Joe Montana and the coaches all know he isn't.

Personally I think the word 'era' is used too often.

I can get behind the 'Brady Belichick' era in NE.

Gruden is just the current HC

This is the Snyder Era in Washington. The only constant is change.

It may end up like the Al Davis Era in Oakland, but without the rings.

@john_keim: As of now, unless Griffin wows them in practice, the sense is that McCoy will start vs. Dallas.

Rotoworld:

Coach Jay Gruden wouldn't rule out Robert Griffin III (ankle) returning for Week 8.

In the outside chance Griffin looks "great" in practice, top beat writer John Keim expects him to get the nod Monday night against Dallas. If not, it's expected to be Colt McCoy under center. Kirk Cousins has played his way off the map with nine interceptions in the last five games. Griffin was not playing well in Jay Gruden's pocket-passer scheme prior to his injury, but is on the QB1 map anytime he starts due to dual-threat ability. RG3 is a must-add for anyone in need of quarterback help.

RG3 is probably still on a lot of Waiver Wires. For those looking to pick him up this week what's your FAAB plan? Think he can still be gotten cheap if he isn't coming back this week or do you plan to be aggressive to ensure you get him?

Rotoworld:

Dianna Marie Russini of NBC Washington reports there's "NO chance" Robert Griffin III (ankle) plays Monday night's Week 8 game against the Cowboys.

RGIII took the first rep at Wednesday's practice, but the Redskins don't start their official practice week until Thursday this week because of Monday night's game. Coach Jay Gruden made Colt McCoy instead of RGIII available to the media, and said he wants to have a starter in place by Thursday afternoon, suggesting it will be McCoy. RGIII will shoot for a Week 9 return at Minnesota.

Rotoworld:

Coach Jay Gruden would "guarantee...most likely" that Robert Griffin III (ankle) returns for the Week 11 game against the Bucs.

There's still a chance Griffin returns for Week 9 at Minnesota, but holding him out through the Week 10 bye is firmly on Gruden's radar. "You've got a good bye week, you've got a couple weeks to make sure it's ready. ... You know, it's a very difficult position to play, and just because he's healthy, he hasn't taken a meaningful rep in about six weeks," Gruden said. All we know right now is that Colt McCoy will almost certainly start in Dallas on Monday night, making the Cowboys an excellent D/ST streamer.

Is there any chance he does not start but dresses? Or he only dresses if he starts? Any chance at all he starts?

He won't dress if he's not starting. And he won't start against Dallas unless the owner or GM orders it so, before the coach thinks he's ready.

I'd expect him to be starting after their bye week.

Dianna Russini said on twitter that Griffin will start this week. Can't get to it to copy/paste here at work but she is @nbcdianna

She's extremely hit or miss, coming from a homer. She could be right, and she could even have a source (though I doubt it), but this is a likely enough outcome regardless that I think this is the type of call she'd make just to be first--I'd be surprised if Griffin didn't start this week so it's not really a ballsy call.

Rotoworld take:

NBC Washington's Dianna Marie Russini reports Robert Griffin III (ankle) will start Week 9 against the Vikings.

Russini has had some good info nuggets and been first on all-things Redskins multiple times this season. RGIII practiced in full on Wednesday, with multiple teammates saying he looked like his old self. But coach Jay Gruden has continued to say they won't rush RGIII back until he's 100 percent healthy and ready. That time appears to be now. Colt McCoy can ride high on his Monday night win over the Cowboys for the next few months. Gruden should name a starter Thursday or Friday. Signs continue to point to it being RGIII.

I know she says she has sources telling her this. I just don't believe her. If she ends up being right, I'll still believe she just made it up because it was likely to happen anyways. She just has an abysmal record.

She's not, and she hasn't been. Sorry. Twitter can say what it likes, and she got official props from Schefter and Mortenson on this one, so it looks like I was probably wrong. But she misses WAY more than she hits. The latest: she reported Cousins was going to start the second half of the Titans game minutes before McCoy took the field. That's just the latest example. She's terrible. It was a running joke on Redskins message boards all offseason that if she reported it, it was likely wrong. She's the new Jason LaCanfora. She came out of nowhere in the last year or so, and rarely breaks anything. And often reports the opposite of what ends up happening.

I for one, hope she is wrong on this one. Rodgers on bye, picked up McCoy because he is was the ONLY starting QB left on the waiver. what's with people carrying 3 QB's on limited rosters...

Funny how instead of resting through the bye a guy shows up the next game after the backup's backup nets the biggest win of the year for the team.
