You young kids....YES GO SEE THIS...I've seen X around 30+ times - John Doe is easily one of the greatest voices and writers of the punk world and his post X work is some of the greatest music made by anyone.(I've seen John solo or his band about 30 + times as well) He's as prolific as Neil Young in the last 30 years. They are Rock royalty.Shrugs said:The last Saturday of the Pershing Square concert series is X, which I've never heard of but they are getting the most hype of all the acts. They are being billed as the best punk band to come out of LA. Do people here know them? Should I be checking them out?
Thanks, guess we'll go. I'm blown away that the lead singer guy of this punk band was Shiri Appleby's father in Roswell. ETA: AND the MEAT PUPPETS - effin A - you better get your ### there
Ahhh, I do know a song from X! Not surprisingly given where I live, it's Los Angeles. Go and have a great time - tell John that Drew from the Lions Lair said hello
You saw half of it, then. They have it out as a video - Black Rain Falls. It isn't their best performance (some of their concerts in Oz from the early 80s were insane), but it is definitely their most iconic.NYRAGE said:I only saw about 3 songs because I was working. I remember seeing them perform "Beds are Burning" for sure. I was kind of jaded working at Atlantic/Elektra/Warner Records. I saw bands all the time, but that was the first time I saw a band playing in the streets like that. It drew a crowd. Definitely something that was unique.
It was clear that the vast majority of the crowd did not know Cloud Nothings music and were expecting a lighter, poppier opener akin to New Pornographers. People looked terrified when they opened with "Now Hear In" and it kinda scattered the crowd save for the handful of people like me who were excited to see them.New Pornographers and Cloud Nothings tonight
NP are must-see when Neko is with them. No Dan Bejar for this tour though, correct? It was clear that the vast majority of the crowd did not know Cloud Nothings music and were expecting a lighter, poppier opener akin to New Pornographers. The show was pretty sparsely attended overall, sadly. I guess there isn't much overlap between their fanbases, but it was perfect for me. One of my favorite bands of all-time combined with one of my favorite bands of the last 3-4 years, back-to-back.
No Neko or Dan Bejar last night. I wasn't really expecting either of them to be there so wasn't disappointed.NP are must-see when Neko is with them. No Dan Bejar for this tour though, correct?
I've seen (and drank beer with) Ed K several times in the past few years as he was touring solo before Live reformed. He sounds as great as ever, trust me.Has anyone seen Live on their current tour? I think whatever is left of GnR is actually the opening act (or maybe vice versa).
love their music and saw them a long time ago. Just wondering if Kowalczyk's voice is decent enough to see them again? They play Hershey in a few weeks and I could drag the kids to the amusement park then force them to listen to my old man music.
I've been to a lot of concerts, and seeing Tedeschi Trucks at Red Rocks is #1 on my bucket list. No BS. I can't even imagine how great that would be.Next up was Saturday and Sunday at Red Rocks for the Tedeschi Trucks Band Wheels of Soul extravagana with Hot Tuna and The Wood Brothers(my 6th year of going to this). Both nights incredible.

Is Sergio playing with them? I know deftones must keep him busy.
I had no idea Slip and Manic Compression were reconsidered as important albums (critically) until literally an hour ago. I'm just a long-time fan who really loved those records. Should be a good show; fingers crossed.
I don't know if Sergio is playing with them. I did not know until Gore that he was even playing with the Deftones. I miss Chi in that band; they sound different. RIP :(Is Sergio playing with them? I know deftones must keep him busy.
P.S. "Slip" is one of my favorite albums. I wore that the hell out back in the 90s.
They do, but each of the last three albums with Sergio were terrific.I don't know if Sergio is playing with them. I did not know until Gore that he was even playing with the Deftones. I miss Chi in that band; they sound different. RIP :(
Yeah, I loved Slip, too. I hung out with hardcore kids who liked really hardcore SxE stuff, and Quicksand always got much respect and was a nice compromise when it came to group listening, though there was no real compromise on my end as I loved the hell out of them.
This. Ed has been great solo and I have to believe the band will bring it now that they're together again. Live is actually opening for G'n'R for a few dates...super bummed to not get that opener and instead got the Deftones. I get that many like the Deftones but they aren't my thing. Live on the other hand - well, they are.Evilgrin 72 said:I've seen (and drank beer with) Ed K several times in the past few years as he was touring solo before Live reformed. I was talking to a guy during the Deftones set pre-G'n'R and he had a pretty funny line. He basically said, "You don't ever have to go to a Deftones concert, because they are bound to open for someone you're actually going to see".Poor deftones. They'll never be appreciated in their own time.
They've been ahead of their time for 17 years and have forged a sound that is entirely unique in the realm of hard rock/metal. They're just too edgy to ever totally break through with mainstream audiences and seem destined to be the band that never had mega-success but will be mentioned as an influence for decades after they've gone.I was talking to a guy during the Deftones set pre-G'n'R and he had a pretty funny line. You are correct. Poor deftones.

I'd forgotten what a great venue that is to see concerts, easy free parking, easy walk to venue, and the venue holds like 10k but because of the way they've utilized the outdoor space it seems much smaller. While I was a lawn guy in my youth, nothing better than being close to the stage for me anymore.
The musicianship and entertainment of all the acts were fantastic. Really seemed to be enjoying themselves. Lady A had two horns that really added another layer of depth to many of their songs.
Overall great time.
They sold out in Tucson for October. I am trying to get a ticket through some connections. I hope I can get in.Repost from Greta Van Fleet thread:
Saw these guys last night at a small club in Covington, KY...across the river from Cincinnati. About 300 people, sold out a month in advance, but called in some favors and got in the door.
Sound was great, but they were kind of low energy, but I will attribute that to being young and the tiny stage. But holy crap people, put away the cell phones...no one wants to see your crappy videos, and they will sit on your phone eating up space. I thought this wouldn't be an issue since I was on the younger spectrum of the crowd at 36, but it was still bad, especially due to the small size of the venue.
They are playing at a music fest in Louisville at the end of September, so I will see how it differs in that setting.
Seeing Depeche Mode here in Tampa in September. I've seen them twice before and they put on a great show.
Took my daughter to see depeche mode last Saturday in NYC.Jealous.
Looks like nose bleeds are 150 at the garden in NYC.
I still plan on going.
Seen them 3 times and always enjoy them.
I wanna take my 11 year old daughter. My wife thinks it's completely inappropriate. She's the nutty one, right?
Unfortunately due to Irma, they cancelled the show tonight here in Tampa. I've seen them twice before so no big deal. Waiting for Adam Ant to reschedule and Psychedelic Furs later this month.Took my daughter to see depeche mode last Saturday in NYC.
Still a great show and my wife is still a loon.
I didn't love the 1H of the set list but they closed it out great. Sooooo many good songs I would love to hear. Contemplated going again on Monday but has no takers to keep me company.
