Michael Avenatti Thread (1 Viewer)

When actual honest-to-goodness news stories about the President of the United States get deleted because they're not sufficiently PG-rated.

Lost in this will be that Avenatti was allegedly extorting Nike for something that shouldn't be illegal in a just society. Just like SDNY and the FBI did a while back with a handful of assistant college basketball coaches, Avenatti was preying on the concept that somebody may have entered into a legal commercial transaction with college athletes. And that the "illegality" was stretched almost to breaking by concluding (as did the FBI) that breaking NCAA rules constituted fraud against participating schools. That's getting pretty far down the rabbit hole in protecting something that violates anti-trust law.

This didn't age well.  Time to hand over your kids.  It may be a little salty but hope they like the prison food.
Aged just fine.

He tried to get over on a multi-billion dollar company as (shady) lawyers tend to do.  He did not assault women or girls.

If Nike can get to him within the hour, they can get to any of us.
His tweet was probably the nail in his coffin. He handed them the final bit of evidence proving that he was trying to extort Nike.

Who knows what he thought he had on Nike. He may even be correct and Nike could be a bad guy here. But it's still against the law to try to extort/blackmail someone for breaking the law.

What’s hysterical is that the Boies Schiller lawyer does everything but ask Avenatti to speak into the flower on his lapel.

He was so obviously building the record about paying the client not being enough.
