Undocumented Immigrant Thread (1 Viewer)

Why not use these immigrants to work in the existing jobs we have all over America? Taxing them, treating them like everyone else and really working towards a greater America.
I'm not opposed to that. But, we can't just let them walk across the border on Monday and start work on Tuesday.

A private company wouldn't be able to run a proper background check or have a valid SSN for tax purposes for some of these.

With a large percentage of immigrants.

People take much more ownership in something that they work for. If they want to use the tools to escape or hurt others, are those the people that you want to let into your country?
What do you think would happen if you replaced all of the jobs in your city with people who haven’t done that job before?

What if instead we built that city on rock and roll?
I don’t want to get all knee deep in the hoopla here. Sure, we can get people to do jobs they’ve never done before. But one minute Marconi plays the mamba, and the next one someone stole the dance stage. You feel me?

I live in a city of 10,000 people with virtually no crime, most of our citizens are retired, and the budget is around $4 million a year.

Just want to add that though it’s true I have repeated myself a few times on this issue, compared to your performance in the gun control thread I’m strictly an amateur.
In your frustration to try to hit me with a zinger, you've failed to take into account that I am one of the few that has both changed his stance and proposed solutions for gun control that require compromise by both sides. You have done nothing more than make false statements and stick to your stance of ban all scary looking guns and let everyone enter this country whenever they want. You're not looking for solutions, you're looking to get what you want.

And I'm still 120k posts behind you. That makes us all amateurs.

Lol dude I’m not frustrated about you.

I am frustrated about this situation. I don’t like how these people are being treated. But that has nothing to do with you.

The same way we pay people now?
Yes, who - from a government that won’t pay for kids to have soap - is going to pay the $20-$30 million a year minimum and $15 billion initial overhead to build and maintain this? How are you going to have stores and hospitals and churches and schools in a place surrounded by a wall and guards? What tools and weapons will you allow people who are under essentially community arrest to have?

It’s a nifty idea as a complete abstract, and maybe taking an abandoned town and turning it into something could be viable, but it’s always going to be a detention facility where some percentage of people will want to leave. Which complicates making it a happy little town. As a social experiment it would be interesting, but we don’t accept immigrants to experiment on them.

How about we figure out a way to get them training and filling the millions of open jobs we have right now.  Tax them, will probably add more to the treasury,  then tariffs.
The simplist most humane solution?  You know why.

Pretty amazing how someone that screams SOCIALISM!!!, because some politicians want affordable health care for all Americans, "solves" the immigration "problem" with a full blown socialist "paradise".

Link?

I've never used the word socialism. And I never called my suggestion paradise.

This is another example of the double standard that exists here. One side can put words in people's mouths. But, if it's reversed, then they scream bloody hell.

I've been here discussing ideas that might solve the problems we face. You choose to complain about everything. Sorry your cup is half full. But, if your not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.

Also, if your going to refer to me, at least address me directly. Instead of your passive aggressive posts. Man up.

And of course the buck stops over there.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence responded separately to criticism over reports that the government is not providing detained immigrant children with adequate food, water, soap, toothbrushes, or blankets. In three interviews that aired Sunday, both men blamed Democrats for the conditions at detention facilities.

Again. The billions sitting on McConnells desk might help this situation. The pathetic thing is people believe this ####.

Like the US Government can't come up with a few thousand toothbrushes and bars of soap. I am actually surprised a company hasn't stepped up to donate thousands of toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.

However long it takes to resolve their case.

It will be less about the administration and more about private funding. (although, I would think the government would want to help and be part of the solution)  We have a lot of companies/people that want to help the immigration crisis. We have sanctuary cities that are providing some help already. Would it be unreasonable to think that some of these companies would donate basic necessities to these families? I think of organizations like Habitat for Humanity that have the resources and volunteer power to do amazing things.

There is a catch-22 to the donation. It could be seen as helping keep kids in cages or supporting the caged kid/family separation. Some may be worried about blowback.
Or it could go the other way and businesses could put more pressure on social issues. I'm thinking of the things that Nike did recently.

I thought the funding measure was in the house currently. Is there more than one? I admit to not being too current on where bills are.
The house hasn’t passed their version of the emergency supplemental border bill that’s supposed to fund this.  I’m not sure why anyone is blaming McConnell.  The proposed senate bill is actually bipartisan.

I agree with you and if I was at Crest, I think I would do something like that. I just wonder why they haven't.

I'm not

1.  It's not their job to fix the problems the government caused

2.  The cynic in me can see the "spin" helping could cause. Who wants that headache?

Reality is,  their best approach is to do some sort of matching program. You donate x, we'll match it. Need the public participation to shoot down the crazies who will try and twist it

I have lost track the last few weeks. There were multiple bills at one point. I believe the most recent one didn't make it through the house because of ONE GOPer. I thought the others that had passed before are just sitting there. I may be wrong about that. NONE of them have been brought to the Senate floor for discussion much less a vote.

The Senate bill is farther ahead than the House bill.  It’s already out of committee.

It’s just crazy that it costs 750 a day per kid but that doesn’t cover soap or toothpaste. The private companies running the facilities are making record profits though.
Which is one of the biggest parts of the problem.  And as big donors, there appears to be incentive to keep these things running and bringing in money vs actually fixing any problem.

And what other stuff is in either bill?
The Senate bill would provide $2.9 billion out of the total of $4.59 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services, for the care of unaccompanied minors; $1.3 billion for the Department of Homeland Security to provide food, shelter and medical care for detained adult migrants. It also includes $145 million for the Department of Defense for medical, surveillance and maintenance activities at the border.

The bill forbids the Homeland Security Department — including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection — from using money dispatched for humanitarian aid for other purposes.

For the Department of Justice, the bill would provide $65 million for 30 new immigration judge teams and for education of migrants so they better understand the U.S. process, which will speed it up. Another $155 million would go to the U.S. Marshals Service to house, transport and care for adult detainees in the agency’s custody.

The bill also includes $30 million for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to reimburse local governments and nonprofits taking care of homeless migrants at the border.
