*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (5 Viewers)

We better draft a stud DB next year. This is getting annoying.

The o-line looked good.

I was skeptical of Djax but he’s still got it. Glad he’s back.

He looks mediocre at best. When you see him run, than Sanders, than Howard it’s hard to explain why he was such a focal point of the offense early on.
You usually have good insight but I think you watched the game with your Anti-Sproles glasses on.  He did not look below mediocre today.  Cmon man.

I already started scouting DBs. I'll be handing in my homework to my co workers son before the draft. He'll probably just look at me and laugh though. Worth a try.

When you watched him and the other 2 you cane away feeling what exactly? He was better? Impossible.
The decision to keep him on the team wasn't between him and Sanders/Howard.  It was between him and Smallwood/Adams/Etc.  Yes, I think he's better than those guys and am glad we kept him.

Sproles showed he still belonged...but not that he shoulda dominated touches. Sanders was impressive despite a weak stat line. Kid did fine in pass pro and showed some wiggle with the rock

That debate is over. And has been.

One of the major talking points this week will undoubtably be them using such a mediocre looking player as the focal point of the offense in the first half.  The more runs by Howard and Sanders made it more and more questionable

Agree 100%. Doug’s fascination with Sproles is difficult to understand. With Sanders and Howard healthy he should touch the ball 6 times tops on offense and sprinkle in his PR.

Also, gonna just get the negative out of the way:

The DL has to stop coming out so slow. 1 sack against an OL that is missing Williams and starting Flowers is ridiculous.

Im not there yet but I’m getting close to being done with Jones and Douglas. They just don’t show me much and when they get beat...they get BEAT.

Positives:

This was a damn good team win. The adversity didn’t rock us and we dominated the second half. Good adjustments at the half.

OL looked great as well. Hope Brooks didn’t hurt anything.

Wentz is back. So glad to see him go downfield more and more and move around and make plays. He’s going to be in the MVP talks again.

Watching D-Jax made me hate Chip even more lol. He is so explosive and tracks the ball better then anyone I’ve ever seen.

Goedert makes a lot of plays looks really easy too. He blocks very well and after he gets the ball on his hands he’s a problem.

Hoping everyone stayed healthy and we come out strong next week!

The carries were Sproles 9, Howard 6, Sanders 11. I'd like that to be Sanders 12-15, Howard 12-15, Sproles 5-7.
35 might be too many in this offense.  Swap Howard and Sproles carries today and I'm good with it.  I'm sure the plan isn't to use Sproles that much all year... just using him while he's fresh and healthy ;)

Howard averaged 7+ ypc today. He was running people over. 35 might be too many but he needs at least 10 carries per game.

Go back a few pages where I get laughed at for suggesting Howard was possibly only a tier below Melvin Gordon. He has better numbers over his career than Gordon AND they ran that stat during the game that he has the most yards after contact of ANY RB the last three years.

He’s gonna be a great hammer later in games. I expect sanders to get more and more as the season goes on. He definitely has the most sizzle.

oh and Gordon pretty much lost his job for good today it would appear.

He will still be the starter in LA if he comes back halfway through the year.  He lost any chance of getting paid maybe, but they're not going to leave him on the bench if he reports.

I'd still swap Howard for Gordon in a heartbeat.

Go look up,all the numbers. Gordon has benefited from playing with Rivers. When had Howard ever had a great QB? He’s got better numbers on much worse career circumstances. Anyway, who cares. Howard is our guy and I’m happy about it. And I’m really happy Wentz was able to throw deep hopefully dispelling that narrative that he couldn’t.

Get this back on page 1. Fortunate to be able to dig out after first half. Lots of Sproles was surprise. More Howard and Sanders to come I hope.

Already seen enough of Douglas escorting WR down the field on big plays.

It was hot in the sun at the game yesterday.  Had to take the kids behind the bleachers for drinks and shade breaks every once in a while (we are a pale and pasty people).  Would have probably been better to play in the white jerseys, do home teams still make that decision?

Boo birds were out in force in the second quarter.  I know Washington has some good coverage guys but it looked like keeping all the passing attempts relatively short clogged everything up.  Once DJax saved our asses on that third down TD (first of two on third down) that may have opened things up a bit more?  (Time to dust off the old DJax jersey and put back in the rotation for games)

Not sure why the defense was able to show up more in the second half after looking completely inept in the first half.  Any discussion of the adjustments during the game or post game?

All in all, happy with the win and looking stronger in the second half.  Better maintain and improve that performance because Dallas looked pretty good against the Giants.  At least it looks like Jerrah will also have to pay Dak a ton soon.

By the way, my kids are still undefeated when attending Eagles games.  I've lost count but its got to be around 12-15 games at this point.  Cheated in my Survivor / Suicide pick by bringing them to the game.

You have to pony up man and take them every home game. Probably some away games too. ;)

Nice to see the way they bounced back after being down 17-0 but we should never have been down 17-0.

Anyways looking ahead I think this Atlanta game is gonna be tough.  They are going to be pissed and not wanting to start 0-2.  Smells like a shootout.

Anyone know why Sendejo was ever on the field? I assumed he was a backup Safety and not part of sub-packages. Don't remember any injuries aside from Maddox for a short bit. Was McLeod limited? Dude was brutal.

Howard looked really good, and definitely needs to get more touches.  Every time he was out there he was bowling people over. He should be in line for a HUGE stat line next week, just look at what Cook did to ATL.

Excited for the season now that we got that first half out of the way, no more slow starts!  Let's get back to putting Carson on the bench after the 3rd quarter again.

Defense had some issues, but dont want to overreact to the first half of the first game.  That said - we had serious issues with pass defense last year, and really made no changes. What do you expect? We've been frustrated by WR's running wide open ever since Schwartz got here.

On the good - I'm expecting huge games from Sanders and Howard.  Teams aren't gonna let DeSean beat them like that - but that's gonna open everything else up. Feeling good - it was so so important to make a statement week one that if you let us, we'll drop 50 yard bombs. Now they're gonna have to defend that seriously - which will make everyone else better.

I didn’t get to see any of the game. Was JJAW on the field at all?

There was a lot of hype about him leading up to the season. He’s looking pretty droppable.

very pleased with my Wentz investment. He keeps putting up numbers like this and he’s top 5 easily.

They went Safety heavy, and LB light, inmost D packages. That's a trend I think we'll see continue in the league. I just don't think he's really the kind of player that you want doing that.

I think we should pump the brakes on Sanders being the bell cow right away. Saw great things from him, running the ball and his blitz pick-ups, but we also saw rookie/inexperienced things from him that shows he still needs to get better. The juggled hand-off from Wentz could have been a disaster (and he had fumbling issues in college) and he not only had a pass that went right through his hands, but it was also almost intercepted.

He led the RBs in snaps yesterday, which shows what the coaches think of him, but I also think they are going to continue to have a role for Howard, Sproles, and Clement that will help compliment his skills, and inexperience.

I agree. I don't think Desean will have many 8-154-2 games again this year but this game will strike fear into every Def Coordinator we play for the rest of the year. They will take the shorter gains over being burned for 50+ yard bombs. Ertz, Goerdert, Sanders, Howard, Agholar, Alshon; they thrive in the short to mid range.

Still a rookie but the course of the game was dictated by Djax in this one. I think there will be a new top scorer each week in the Eagles offense.

The game is much, much different if Keenum slightly resembles being an NFL QB after we went up 21-20. Him missing that WR who was wide open for another long TD was huge.

Not often, but he did commit the holding call that wiped off the Miles Sanders TD run.
“Holding”

There was? I think anyone in here would have said he's more of a next year and beyond player. I'd be shocked if he does much this season barring a Alshon injury.

This is misleading. Pass D got crushed by injuries mid season, and got better later season. A ton of very young players got meningful time. It was more then reasonable to assume between better health and natural progression of all that youth the pass D would improve WITHOUT making any big moves

Leading up the last two weeks of the preseason he had a huge game, and the Eagles started hyping him up.

Then right before this weekend they came out and said he’d be used in red zone packages, as he’s one of their best RZ threats.

So yes, there was.
