*Official 2019 Philadelphia Eagles Thread* - Season's over; Go Away Now... (7 Viewers)

Not often, but he did commit the holding call that wiped off the Miles Sanders TD run.
That was a terrible call FWIW, was more of a dive then a hold.

I think we should pump the brakes on Sanders being the bell cow right away. Saw great things from him, running the ball and his blitz pick-ups, but we also saw rookie/inexperienced things from him that shows he still needs to get better. The juggled hand-off from Wentz could have been a disaster (and he had fumbling issues in college) and he not only had a pass that went right through his hands, but it was also almost intercepted.

He led the RBs in snaps yesterday, which shows what the coaches think of him, but I also think they are going to continue to have a role for Howard, Sproles, and Clement that will help compliment his skills, and inexperience.
Watch that play again....the bobble was 100% on Wentz. The RB isn't supposed to watch the ball being handed to him...the ball is supposed to be placed in a specific spot in his gut, and Carson MISSED that spot by half the length of the ball. The kid played pretty good.

Leading up the last two weeks of the preseason he had a huge game, and the Eagles started hyping him up.

Then right before this weekend they came out and said he’d be used in red zone packages, as he’s one of their best RZ threats.

So yes, there was.
I missed this from the team, but I said in the JJAW thread that the Eagles RZ targets will be Jeffery/Ertz/Goedert.  I love JJAW (I have him dynasty on my practice squad) but his time will be in the future. I love his potential though.

He has a ton of potential. In a dynasty league I'd definitely hold. This season I expect little.

yes, he is one of their best RZ threats. Unfortunately that's a very large grouping. Alshon, Ertz, Goedert, Howard....

Although FWIW when they were in the red zone I think they still had Djax in there.  JJ only had 5 snaps total. I'm sure throughout the season he'll get sprinkled in more - but no, if you are in a redraft league I would not bother holding him.

Eagles didn't have a lot of snaps in the red zone. Two of the TDs came from 50+ out and he's a rookie. I like him as a late pick in best ball leagues, but nobody should be counting on him for week to week production, especially early this year with everyone else healthy

I didn’t get to see any of the game. Was JJAW on the field at all?

There was a lot of hype about him leading up to the season. He’s looking pretty droppable.

very pleased with my Wentz investment. He keeps putting up numbers like this and he’s top 5 easily.
When Mack Hollins is out-snapping you, I think it's safe to say he's not going to be anything for fantasy this year, unless there's a major injury. From Philly Voice:

Wide receiver

• 60 snaps each: Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor

• 52 snaps: DeSean Jackson

• 10 snaps: Mack Hollins

• 5 snaps: J.J. Arcega-Whiteside

Analysis: Jackson was in on 69 percent of the snaps, which is both #nice, and right around an ideal amount of snaps for him.

As expected, Agholor didn't see a precipitous drop in snaps. What wasn't expected was that Hollins is ahead of Arcega-Whiteside on the depth chart.

How many coaches go for two when you're up 7? I loved the call, play to win the game and go up two scores. But I think most coaches play it safe, kick the extra point to make it an 8 point game.
I got to watch the game with my Dad, who lives out of market and doesn't get to see many Eagles games. As they were driving for that TD, I said if they scored, Doug would go for 2. He asked why so I pointed out that an 8 point lead is still only a one possession game while going up by 9 obviously makes it 2. He looked at me like it would be a crazy decision. I told he doesn't know Big Balls Doug very well.

This has been a debate for the last few years, as analytics have become more accepted. The chance to go up by 2 scores later in the game, on almost a 50/50 play, is usually the right call.

Doug still has to learn not to call defensive TO's when the other team has 3rd and 4 at midfield and no timeouts. Cost the Eagles 3 points

Part of his aggressiveness. He wanted to get the ball back to try for points. You want him to stay aggressive. Got to take all parts of that. He's not going to stop trying to score.

Sounds like he might be done for the season :(    I'll see if I can find out some inside info on it.

Any chance Chris Long comes back????

Different position anyway right?
True.  Just read this though.

@Jeff_McLane
If the #Eagles make a roster move to replace, it doesn’t necessarily have to be another DT. Malik Jackson’s arrival led to Chris Long’s departure more than anything. With Graham and Curry’s ability to rush from inside, Long could return to his role as a pass down edge rusher.

Yes, but Long would come in on passing downs and BG would slide inside. With Malik Jackson a good pass rusher, they weren't going to take him off the field on those downs. With those snaps gone, Long didn't feel like he had a role. But now...
Would love him to return.... I'm sure Howie will at least make the call.  Was really excited for Malik this year.

CSN Article on Sproles usage.

All summer, the debate was whether the Eagles would lean on Jordan Howard in the ground attack, or if rookie Miles Sanders would overtake him as the primary ball carrier.

But in Week 1, it felt like Darren Sproles was the Eagles’ lead back — and some people weren’t happy about it.

Sproles didn’t actually top Eagles running backs in playing time or carries against Washington on Sunday. His 23 snaps and nine rushing attempts were well behind Sanders with 36 and 11, though slightly ahead of Howard’s 17 and six.

Sproles’ 49 yards rushing did lead the team however, while the 36-year-old’s 17 total touches between runs, receptions and punt returns was his highest total since 2016. It begged the question why, especially when the Eagles’ offense got off to its slow start.

“When we construct games, we have multiple run schemes and they are designed for different guys,” Eagles coach Doug Pederson said. “The ones that were kind of clicking today were the Darren ones, and so just kept calling his number there.”

Like the rest of the offense though, Sproles was ineffective early. He ended the first half with three runs for eight yards and two catches for nine yards, and a pitch that went for a two-yard loss on 3rd-and-1 stood out as an especially egregious call.

The general sentiment on social media during the first half: Love the guy, but too much Sproles.

Pederson stuck with Sproles, and the 15th-year veteran rewarded his patience, rushing four times for 32 yards on an Eagles touchdown drive to open the third quarter, and tacking on a two-point conversion in the fourth. He also returned four punts for an 11.5 average.

“When I got in there the first half, I felt kind of rusty a little bit,” Sproles said. “But in the second half I kind of got going a little bit.”

The negativity over Sproles’ usage mostly subsided with his turnaround. He’s a useful cog in the offense and a terrific return specialist. He’s also about to move into fifth on the NFL’s career all-purpose yards list at 5-foot-6, which players and fans of all allegiances respect.

"I love that guy and how hard he works for us," Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz said. "Situationally, from third downs, to punts, he’s a leader on this football team."

Still, the heavy workload raises some concerns. Sproles missed 23 games due to injury in the last two seasons. And he wasn't the Eagles’ most effective back toting the rock on Sunday –  it was Howard, his 7.3 yards per carry more than two full yards better.

Pederson does seem to get enamored with Sproles at times and has never been shy about using him in short yardage situations or giving him the bulk of the carries in defiance of physical stature and age.

It’s understandable to a degree, as Sproles is capable of powerful and explosive plays as a runner or receiver from almost any position in the offense.

Yet, as long as Howard, a two-time 1,000-yard rusher, and Sanders, a second-round draft pick, are both in the fold, relying too much on Sproles is going to draw more criticism than ever — especially when it isn’t working.

I agree about staying aggressive. I disagree about taking a risk when the likelihood of reward is very low. Even if the Eagles stopped the Redskins on third down, at best the Eagles were getting the ball deep in their own territory with about 40 seconds left and no timeouts. Very little chance to score. Yet not stopping the Redskins on third down gave them at least a 50% chance of scoring which they ended up doing.

I did love his decision to go for 2 instead of settle for an 8 point lead in the 4th quarter.

If I have to choose, I choose aggressive over conservative. But if I have a choice between all out aggressiveness and smart aggressiveness, I choose smart aggressiveness.

It was hot in the sun at the game yesterday.  Had to take the kids behind the bleachers for drinks and shade breaks every once in a while (we are a pale and pasty people).  Would have probably been better to play in the white jerseys, do home teams still make that decision?

Boo birds were out in force in the second quarter.  I know Washington has some good coverage guys but it looked like keeping all the passing attempts relatively short clogged everything up.  Once DJax saved our asses on that third down TD (first of two on third down) that may have opened things up a bit more?  (Time to dust off the old DJax jersey and put back in the rotation for games)

Not sure why the defense was able to show up more in the second half after looking completely inept in the first half.  Any discussion of the adjustments during the game or post game?

All in all, happy with the win and looking stronger in the second half.  Better maintain and improve that performance because Dallas looked pretty good against the Giants.  At least it looks like Jerrah will also have to pay Dak a ton soon.

By the way, my kids are still undefeated when attending Eagles games.  I've lost count but its got to be around 12-15 games at this point.  Cheated in my Survivor / Suicide pick by bringing them to the game.
haven't seen a ton or heard much yet. it just seemed they were flat coming out and needed to wake up in the 2nd half. I did hear about how they made some out of the blue sets in the 1st half which may mean they were trying to get too tricky

so do we talk about that Mike Scott thing?
thought is was somewhat harmless. don't know the details of what led up to it, but he went down antagonizing not knowing it would get the attn it did. I have tailgated at a few Redeskins games and most of the time it is light heckling. Redskins aren't a threat to the Eagles. i'm sure Scott wouldn't step down from any heckling so it just led to some fists flying. nothing too crazy I think. all that comes out of it is Sixers probably mention to Scott to not antagonize the fans again

Getting this thread back to the first page. Anyway there was an unfortunate incident involving Sixers Mike Scott. Put in Context Erock who does a podcast 4thandJawn invited Scott a Redskins fan to their tailgate a month ago. Scott was really excited (Maybe too) on social media. Some fans warned him about the fan environment telling him maybe not wear his Washington gear as well as if he goes just go straight to the tailgate. Unfortunately Scott Never made it. I heard a few stories of Racial slurs used, Scott Barged the tailgate with the Coffin and threw the first punch etc etc.

Per people on Social media I talked to from one of the tailgates close to this. They went to the guys with the Coffin (Who Ive tailgated with my cousin with and are great guys) which is why they were there her account was this

"My friend and I saw the whole thing! He barged into their tailgate and got in the guy’s face."

Asked what caused this

"It was the typical “#######” chant that everyone was doing as they walk to the stadium. The tailgate was getting ready to do the priest “last rites” skit - which is why we were there to get a pic. No comments were specifically directed at him until after the fight broke out. That being said, someone from the tailgate did make a racist remark after the fight, so certainly not defending them either."

Phillyvoice has an article out on this. Bullet Points

* Scott was walking through F lot to Erocks tailgate and saw the Coffin that had a Redskins party like it's 91 T shirt (reference to their last SB. Some on social media today spread terrible rumors that Scott got in the fight with these guys because it depicted Sean Taylor the slane WAS Safety who was murdered in a Home robbery. However Scott stopped because he thought the coffin was cool and wanted pics

* Your typical "friendly" fan banter of rivals of Redskins Suck and F You and ####### Chants started

*Someone apparently started dropping N Bombs and thats when the fight happened and some people started shouting the N Bomb again

*This even continued after the fight and Scott left

* Scott was accompanied by a Sixers Security person and the Sixers are trying to figure out despite this how this got out of hand. Speculation from fans is Sixers might tell their players like Scott and Embiid active in the community engage fans to possible tone it down for a bit. Either until things settle or the Sixers can figure out how to better prevent this from happening.

*76ers for now won't treat it as a disciplinary matter. More worried about security for team events to make it better

Scott fought idiots that shouted N Bombs

On Twitter and from friends at the tailgate I heard the people with the coffin didn't start the Racial slurs and tried to break up the fight and cool things down before it escalated. The group that started it I'm told is trouble every game and some have said are the idiots in the video throwing beer cans at Viking fans. A lot of tailgaters are hoping the NFL and Eagles Security and safety get involved and ban this group from attending events anymore. They've apparently been nothing but trouble over the years and have gotten worse as time goes on. The Coffin people have been there for yrs. Like I said I've tailgated with them and are some of the coolest guys to tailgate with. They are older gentleman invite anyone over even opposing fans and people come up to see the coffin often which usually has a jersey of the opposing teams QB. The Coffin usually has the Dallas logo on it

Anyway for now this is what happened. My questions are Scott could've used better judgement and you as an athlete CANNOT BE FIGHTING FANS no matter what. The Coffin Tailgate is cool. Sixers player security really sucks. It was Nice for Scott to try and show up but why isn't he going directly to 4th and Jawns tailgate or having more security escort him there and then too the stadium.

I just put in more info. Phillyvoice also did some investigative work. The story is all over the place internet wise. People saying it was started because of racial slurs others say Scott Barged in and got physical with an Eagles out of no where. I think the consensus is Scott threw the first punch but the Sixers are looking as the incident as it seems like Self defense and not looking at disciplinary. More concerned how THEIR OWN SECURITY HE WAS WITH allowed it to escalate

Would they even offer Long a big enough role? That's his issue.

I’m a rhythm player. I need to set people up, I need to be in the flow of the game. If I sit on the bench for three series, I can’t get rhythm, and I’ll get cold and maybe I’ll hurt myself. Some people think that’s great—play less and you won’t get hurt. Man, I want to play ball. In Philadelphia, it didn’t seem there was much of a chance to compete thereBut they were honest with me the whole time. I appreciate the honesty.

Here’s the full list of everything they did today:

• Signed CB Craig James to the active roster from the practice squad

James, 23, was signed to the Eagles’ practice squad bak on Sept. 2. He was a cut down day casualty from Minnesota. Last year, as an undrafted rookie, he played in three games for Minnesota after being promoted from their practice squad. He played in 20 career games at Southern Illinois after two seasons at the University of Minnesota.

• Signed TE Alex Ellis to the practice squad

The Eagles waived Ellis from their active roster on Tuesday and once he cleared waivers, signed him back to their practice squad. Ellis began this season on the practice squad, but was called up for Week 1. He played two offensive snaps and 22 special teams snaps in the opener.

• Released TE Richard Rodgers from IR with an injury settlement

Forget about the Eagles’ bringing Rodgers back from IR this season. They released him with an injury settlement, moving on from a player who was hurt more often than not during his time in Philly. Rodgers, 27, is now an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign anywhere.

• Officially signed DT Akeem Spence to a 1-year contract

The Eagles agreed to terms with the seven-year veteran on Tuesday, but he officially signed his contract on Wednesday morning. Spence practiced for the first time on Wednesday and is will wear No. 66 with the Eagles.

“I always rooted for the Eagles. I loved watching (former quarterback) Donovan McNabb, and I try to pattern my game now after (Eagles safety) Malcolm Jenkins. I was really excited they won the Super Bowl.”

Stay away from him.  He's coming to the Steelers!
