⚽ OFFICIAL GOLD CUP THREAD: United States Beats Mexico. Again. ⚽ (1 Viewer)

Only explanation is that GGG feels bad for Zardes playing with a bunch of scrubs.

Really interested to see how qualifying goes for Canada. I think they are going to get enough points at home to make it.

Only been watching the second half... The US has a midfield somewhere, right? I mean, i get parkimg the bus to a degree, but it doesnt look well parked. And no ability to control at all going forward. Dike...absolutely terrible.

Seruous question...is Dike hurt? I dont mean his dive into a shoulder owie. No defense. No offense. No dice. Zardes at least would run homself into the hround here...

I was shocked Zardes came off instead of Dike. Not sure about Berhalter’s in-game adjustments.

Canada were the better team, but they didn't create much in terms of chances.  I just get a kick out of Turner.  He looks more like some kid wearing his older brother's kit than a professional athlete.  But he's solid.

So far, Sands is the one guy who has shown he needs to be on the qualifying squad.

First half was better....?

Because that was bad. Good they held on for the win though...best positive I could say.
first 25 minutes was very good.  Constant pressure, good passing, ball recovery almost instantly.  And then it all flipped after the injuries.

And Busio...oof. poor coverage of space, no man coverage, lost almost all the balls I saw him take. Unless he was great in the first half, big loss of confidence in the kid for me.

First 25 minutes or so was better.  Once Canada started buckling down and winning second balls, it was rough.  But the individual defending was pretty good outside of Pines (who we know isn't ready).

I saw Buchanon just miss at least two clear and solid chances that the US did very little to defend. Canada had another couple similar ooenings on the side of the box that looked oh so easy to create.

So Busio has had 2 straight starts and its not working for what ever reason.  He is not doing enough with the ball to make up for how weak his is defensively at the 6.

I really think GGG has to completely rethink this.  The only component that worked all day was Sands at the 6 offensively.  So lets build on that:

............................................Turner

Cannon...............Zimm.......................Robinson.............Vines

.............................................Sands

...........................LLetget......................Acosta/Williamson

Roldan...........................Zardes........................................Hoppe

(dear god.... my kingdom for a real winger)......The lack of wingers makes any formation look ridiculous.. :(

This. We looked good to start. After the Zimmerman injury and Canada changed up their tactics, we were on the back foot and then it only got worse.

Some REALLY bad performances out there.

As stated, Sands was the only guy that stood out significantly. He deserves a shot to make the final 23.

Vines had a decent game defensively. Robinson had some moments.

Yueill was beyond bad when he came on. He offers nothing on either side of the ball and becomes a liability against any team that doesn't give him acres of space. I hope we never see him in a USMNT shirt again after this tournament.

Sands for sure.  I'd like to see more of Williamson too.  And I still think Acosta's done enough.  Plus Robinson and Moore seem like they could be good depth if we end up needing it.

Other than that?  Not sure.

Yes to this. I liked Williamson.

Although to be fair it is not like we are lacking wingers in the pool.  Look at how many are missing for various reasons

Pulisic, Gio, Aaronson, Weah, Morris, Clark, Nips and Cowell.

Cowell was the only mistake by GGG to not roster but it is turning out to be a big one with the Nips injury.

And I am SOOO bummed about Clark getting appendicitis.  He would have had a fantastic chance to show in this tournament.

Turner for me has locked up no worse than 3rd goalkeeper.  Outside of a couple of iffy moments with his feet in the first game, he has been as clean as we could hope for.

Look like he was favoring his quad most of the second half and started galloping to compensate.
