FWIW using the head-to-head inside the group muddies stuff up.

Denmark placed 2nd by the head to head to head GD with Russia and Finland.Β  After Denmark is placed it DOES NOT revert to step 1 for Russia vs Finland apparently (based on ESPN graphic) - if it did Russia would place 3rd because of head-to-head with Finland.

World Cup using goal differencial first prevents this sorta thing.

LOL.Β  The Belgian commentators are having a go at UEFA.Β  Β There was a streaker in the Belgium-Finland game and they said something like...

"There's a barely clothed woman on the pitch, which you of course won't see.Β  If a player's dying on the pitch, you'll get 15 angles of it, but a woman who's not even naked, just dressed to the climate... that's off limits."

No idea if this will paste well but it’s how they will place the 3rd place teams.

Advanced so far:

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, France, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Wales

Eliminated:

Turkey, N. Macedonia, Russia

My back foot inside your back foot going opposite directions doesn't look like even -- it looks miles off.Β

Maybe there's an argument for ending the offside trap entirely, but no one's said that's the goal.
Are teams still playing the offside trap? Holding their lines, sure, but playing the trap?Β Β

In any case you might have noted the most extreme case.Β  I was thinking more along the lines of my foot being upfield of your body, while the other (or my head) being downfield is "even" and therefore onside.Β Β

Updated record 10-6-1 (+8.10)

The bet Ukraine/Austria o 1.75 (-125) 1.25 to win 1.00

The bet Holland/N.Macedonia o3 (-130) 1.30 to win 1.00

Alioksi to be booked +300 0.5 to win 1.5

Over 3.5 bookings (-120) 1.20 to win 1.00

Delaney to be booked +280 0.5 to win 1.4

Under 2.5 goals (-125) 1.25 to win 1.00
12-9-2 (+7.30)Β Β

Two disallowed goals in Dutch game, plenty of chances with Austria to get 2, as Ukraine didn't show up.

Danes were great going forward and Russia looked like they were trying to play for the 0-0 from the kickoff, sometimes when you get 1, they start pouring in.

Thankfully I've been getting some luck with the cards, as this is 3 in a row with those.

Will be back tomorrow early with some more bets.Β  With today's results England advances, so not much to play for, except the fact they look pathetic.Β  Croatia and Scotland play for advancement - expect some bookings bets there.

That is Belgium's nightmare scenario

Swiss are in.Β  Rest is too complex for my brain but Belgium will hope for a draw in the Croatia - Scotland match to ensure this scenario can't happen.

2 - Denmark are the first team in European Championship history to reach the knockout stages of the competition having lost their first two group stage games. Recovery. #EURO2020

So England vs Czechia...

Winner (tie = Czech win) gets 2F (Portugal/France/Germany or I guess Hungary if things go crazy) with 1E probably next

Loser gets 2E (Sweden/Spain/Slovakia or I guess Poland if things go crazy) with 1F probably next.

If one pounds the other and the right one of Scotland/Croatia win dropping the England-Czech loser to 3rd then Belgium, Holland, or (less likely) the group F winner awaits.

So I can see rest being on order for England and Czechia.

Assuming Group F does get all 3 teams advancing then Belgium or Netherlands will be the opponent.Β  Everybody may be rooting for France to put a hurting on Portugal - sorry Gator.

Belgium nightmare bracket is Holland's dream bracket btw.Β  Path would be something like:

Croatia or Scotland

then Denmark (thx AAA)Β Β or Wales

heck then could get England in the semisΒ and just go after all of the commonwealth

I think you need to swap Ukraine for Denmark - still not a powerhouse but probably not as easy as Ukraine.

Also worth noting - the winner of Group D plays its first knockout game at Wembley, whereas the second place team goes to Copenhagen.Β  England doesn't look very strong so far, but that's not a great draw for the second from Group F if they have to play England in London in the round of 16.

England/Czech Republic

Both of these teams have advanced so they are just playing to see who wins the group.Β  England is going to have to do some rotating here and although lineups will not be announced for hours, here's how I see it.Β  Southgate already stated he's starting Kane, who's been altogether ineffective so far, with nary a shot on target through two games.Β  But, let's face it, Kane is England's best striker, and frankly he's been getting no service at all.Β  First two games he's had a Mount/Foden attacking mf, with Sterling as his strike partner.Β  Sterling is ####### overrated to the moon, it has to be said.Β  Yeah, he's got pace, but his touch, his accuracy, his ability to break down players 1v1 all lacks - he's great making runs and having KdB sending him in, but other than the one run he made that Phillips perfectly fed him, he's ####.Β  He needs to be rotated out.Β  Mount is out due to Covid.Β  Foden has been okay, but he's already on a yellow and ffs, this team has 1 goal in 2 games, lets see if we can get some offense.Β  I think we get a Jaden Sancho sighting this afternoon.Β  I also think Rashford may start in place of Sterling.Β  And, the key player here is going to be one Jack Grealish and he needs to start.Β  If Jordan Henderson and Maguire are fit to play, I think Southgate may finally take the idle off this team as you will have a some very veteran and staunch defensive minded players.Β  You throw a Shaw-Maguire-Stones-Walker defense, with Henderson in front of them and then a trident of Sancho-Kane-Rashford up front, with Grealish supporting, now we're talking. I'd probably keep Phillips out there as well, as his work rate is excellent.Β  This would be my preferred lineup.Β Β

Czech Republic will probably play a mostly unchanged lineup as it's worked so far and their team is pretty sound.Β  They don't score much, but don't allow much either. In their match vs Croatia, who were probably rated second best in this group, they pretty much played them dead even, and received the draw.Β  They beat Scotland 2-0, and while stats and attacks may have favored Scotland and Robertson was pretty good there, they were ahead, so they just absorbed what Scotland threw at them.Β  Czechs will not want to get this game too open, and they will be dangerous on set pieces with Shick and Soucek.Β  If they get an early goal, I think they'll set it on cruise control again as a win or draw will suit them just fine.

All that being said, game is at Wembley and if this England side cannot get up for a group determining game at the hallowed stadium, they will deserve all the criticism they'll receive.Β  Pretty sure every English player dreams of scoring there in an FA Cup final, and while the stands will not be packed, I'm sure there will be a raucous English contingent eager to get a result.Β  The odds favor England much too heavily at last glance they were -180, and that is a hard pass here.Β  Any time goal scorer odds are ridiculous too, as 3 English players are at +250 or less.Β  I do definitely think England win here, but I want to try to extract some value, so here are three bets

England TT o1.5 (-115) 2.30 to make 2.00

England win and u4.5 goals (-120) 1.20 to make 1.00

England 3 - Czech Republic 1 (exact score prop)Β  +1400 0.1 to make 1.4

g'luck if playing

Croatia/Scotland

This one is pretty much for all the marbles as a win should see either team through, a loss or draw and yer out.

Scotland will be without Gilmour, but other than that I'd expect most of the same side as you saw vs England as they were very good in that match.Β  Team should be brimming with confidence after a draw there, but let's face it, with zero goals in two games, they need someone get them a goal.Β  That may be tough going against Croatia who enjoy possession and have a very experienced team.Β  Croatia has only managed to score 1 goal themselves thus far and this tournament has been a massive disappointment for them as they came in as a top 15 team in the world.Β  Team is not getting any younger either, so the clock is definitely ticking.Β  Modric, Kramaric, Perisic, Vida all on the wrong side of 30 and Rebic and Kovavic both at 27, this is the heart of their team here as thus far you aren't getting much at all out of any of them.

How I see this game playing out is Croatia will be a patient side, building in the attack, trying to dominate possession, whearas Scotland will play hard all over the field, exactly what you saw against England and be dangerous on the counter and coming down the wings.Β  I think this game will be open since who wants to bow out of a tournament without even scoring, but I also think this game will be close.Β  Both teams have a bunch of hot heads on them, and the longer it stays close, the tighter the challenges will be.Β  Now, this game is ref'd by an Argentinian who gave three cards out in the first game he ref'd, HOWEVER, he averages 6 yellows per game in Argentinian super league, which are often tightly contested, lower scoring battles between sides with hot heads.Β  Scotland comes in with only two guys on yellows, so they will mostly not need be cautious, although McGinn is on a yellow and he is one of their most active tacklers - expect McTominnay at the least to get one.Β  Croatians come in with 4 guys on yellows, but frankly I don't think it will matter because at the end of the day, only one of these teams has a chance of advancing, so who cares if someone gets a second yellow.Β  Also, a home game for Scotland so we're going to have some feverish play on the field.

The bet o3.5 bookings -125Β (1.25Β to win 1.00)

McTominnay to be booked +260 (0.4 to win 1.04)

g'luck if playing

Scotland-Croatia winner WILL be in.

If they tie then welcome to the dance Ukraine.Β  Be sure to say hello to Putin during your playoff game

Yeah, how does that work?Β  Isn't Japan like a day ahead or behind or are they in the future or some such?Β  Could probably Google this....
Japan is exactly 14Β hours ahead of central time.(No idea what their stance is on daylight savings though).Β  So likely going to be a TON of morning coverage as most events will happen in the evening.Β  Probably going to be some solid late night viewing for the night owls too.

Will depend on what NBC wants to hold back for primetime viewers.Β  The good still will be on primetime, but I imagine that leaves a lot of stuff for the daytime crowds.Β Β

Hopefully NBC will air everything live, even the stuff they'll eventually show on primetime TV here in the US. It feels like they learned their lesson in Pyeongchang but who knows.
