Mount will be available, no chance he doesn't start imoΒ
Somebody better versed with the England side will have to speak for this but I thought Graelish was ahead of Mount.Β  Honestly, since he was out for the protocol he just slipped my mind.Β  Either way you go I do think I would include that as a 3rd decision for Southgate.Β  I could see good arguments for either - I think I like Mount a little bit better but it's close.

No reason Mount and Chillwell should have been quarantined if Scotland wasnt.Β  Perhaps it was a way for Southgate to sit them without being questioned?Β  GENIUS!

If avail, he starts and I agree with above he shouldn't.Β Β

It was an FA decision. England and Scotland have different rules regarding close contact protocol.

Mount is ahead of Grealish - but he shouldn't be.

I find the Mount question fascinating.Β  Both Lampard and Southgate started him regularly... especially in every important game.Β  Tuchel came on and benched him for a few games as he learned the strengths and weaknesses of the team, but by the 3rd game in Tuchel's era Mount was once again a nailed on starter, which lasted the rest of the season.Β  So managers seem to love what he brings to a team.

Yet, almost to a fault, every non-Chelsea fan I've met think he's overrated.Β  His stats show him to be one of the top chance creators in the EPL, but people still rag on him.Β  What am I missing?

I hated Mount at the beginning of the year because I incorrectly thought of him as competition for Puli, but he is now my favorite player by a decent margin. Motor or engine or whatever you want to call it is the most underrated skill in sports.Β

Big chances created:

1.Β Β  Β Bruno Fernandes.Β 20Β Β  Β Β
2.Β Β  Β Kevin De BruyneΒ 19Β Β  Β Β
3.Β Β  Β Trent Alexander-ArnoldΒ 14Β Β  Β Β
3.Β Β  Β Jack GrealishΒ 14Β Β  Β Β
3.Β Β  Β Harry KaneΒ 14Β Β  Β Β
3. Β  Β Son Heung-MinΒ 14Β Β  Β Β
7.Β Β  Β Mason MountΒ 13

Grealish pays on a worse team, with about half the attacking talent that Mount plays with, and played 700 fewer minutes - and still created more big chances.

Assists:

4. Β Grealish

29. MountΒ

For Group E, here is what I have going into tomorrow.

9 scenarios.
1st - Sweden 6, Slovakia 2, Spain 1, Poland 0
2nd - Slovakia 4, Spain, Poland 2, Sweden 1
3rd - Spain 4, Sweden, Slovakia 2, Poland 1
4th - Poland 6, Spain 2, Slovakia 1, Sweden 0

In one situation that has Sweden 1st, Spain 2nd, it would come down to goal diff.Β  Going in Sweden is +1 and Spain is at 0.Β  The scenario is one with Spain winning and Sweden drawing.Β  So Sweden would stay at +1 and Spain would be at least +1.Β  If that held, then it would come down to goals scored in their respective matches ... they both sit at 1 in that going in.
If it is Sweden 1-1 with Poland, and Spain 1-0 over Slovakia, then they would both be 1-2-0 2-1 +1.Β  That could fall all the way to Lower Disciplinary Points, or even European Qualifier Ranking.

Another scenario has Spain in 3rd and Poland in 4th, and tied in points ... but that would be at 2 points, and 3rd wouldn't move on. So not worth the time.

My favorite is where Sweden, Slovakia and Poland all end with 4 points.
This is where Spain and Slovakia draw, and Poland beats Sweden.

Poland would have beaten Sweden, but lost to Slovakia.
Slovakia beat Poland, and lost to Sweden.
Sweden beat Slovakia, but would have lost to Poland.
It's a wash.

Goal diff
Slovakia beat Poland by 1, and lost to Sweden by 1 ... so 0
Poland lost to Slovakia by 1, and will have beaten Sweden by at least 1 ... so if 1-0, then 0 as well.Β
Sweden beat Slovakia by 1, and will have lost to Poland by at least 1 ... so if 0-1, then 0 as well.
Now if Poland wins by more than 1, then Poland finish 1st, Sweden 2nd, Slovakia 3rd with 4 points.

If ... If this all plays out with a 1-0 Poland win, and they all have an even goal diff, the goals scored in matches between them.
Currently Sweden 1, Slovakia 2, Poland 1.
If Poland has won 1-0, then they are on 2 goals for as well.Β  But they lost to Slovakia, so Slovakia 1st, Poland 2nd, and Sweden 3rd with 4 points.
If Poland wins with more than 2 goals, then Poland 1st, Slovakia 2nd, and Sweden 3rd with 4 points.

Feel free to poke holes, as I'm doing this on the fly while looking at a spreadsheet of result scenarios.Β  :nerd:
The more I type, the more I think I've missed something.

Who is Belgium's most likely opponent at this point?Β  The scenarios are so confusing.
Belgium play 3A in one combination, 3F in one, and 3E in two.
3A is Switzerland
3E could be anyone in that group!
3F could be anyone in that group!

To run them all, without goal diff factoring, is 81 scenarios.Β  While I would actually have fun trying that .. not happening tonight.
If I had to guess, I would say they will play Sweden or Slovakia.

I wasnt a fan early on. But the guy is an absolute gamer- good and very consistent on the ball, and works his ### of on both sides of it. His defensive work is phenomenal- like a 6, but high up the field, filling gaps, creating defensive shape and shutting down the higher passing lanes and closing players down immediately. And then he's still a guy that pops up to support or spearhead the attack. Hes all over the field.

Watching him during CPs time at chelsea, I'm now completely sold on the kid. Not as creative as Graelish though, but a really nice complement if the rest of the squad gets set the right way.

I feel like foden and sterling both tend to attack players and space with the ball at their feet, which is fine, but takes their teammates out of the game. Graelish and Mount both get their teammates going imo.

If my math is right 3E - believe it or not -Β cannot be Poland.Β  I would put the likely opponent from E to be 43% ESP 43% SVK and like 14% SWE (Not loving Poland's chances of winning)

3F can be anyone - that is true.Β  I would probably say Portugal is most likely then France then Germany than Hungary (again not loving Hungary's chance at a road win)

I can see that.Β  The only two scenarios with a chance of Poland finishing 3rd involves a tie on points:Β  the two way with Spain at 2 points, so irrelevant.Β  The other is the crazy three way tie at 4, where most situations have them 1 or 2.

Agreed on Hungary, any scenario where they advance, they have to beat Germany.Β

and in the 3-way tie on 4 points with Sweden and Slovakia Poland either wins outright on goal differential in games among the 3 (if they beat Sweden by 2).Β  If they win by 1 and score more than 1 goal they get placed first over Slovakia and Sweden based on goals scored in games among the 3.Β  If they beat Sweden 1-0 then the 3 teams all will have 1-1 differential amongst the 3.Β  So it would go to the group tiebreaker.Β  But they still would finish ahead of Sweden on goals scored in the group (3 GS and 3GA vs 1 GS and 1 GA for Spain) - so they could place no lower than 2nd.

A lot of lineup criticism for an English team that just won their group on 7 points without conceding a goal. Agree with others that Kane looks a bit off though.

Has Southgate ever used 3 at the back?

I would HATE it if he plays 3 at the back. Β They need more creative players on the pitch and just about any formation with 3 at the back is going to be even more defensive than they already are. Β Also, they played with 4 at the back in all 3 group games. Β It would be nuts, IMO - so I give it 50/50.

Was just curious. All of this talk about England tactics made me wonder if, with McGuire back, they may go three at the back and push a couple of their way too many fullbacks up the wings. Would be more interesting if Kane were in form.

Kane does need better service for sure but I hope they don’t react to that with changing the formation. Β Not sure Mings and McGuire are suited for it anyway. Β Kane is good enough to get goals on his own andΒ they haven’t given up a goal. Β I’d stay the course and hope Kane gets going - they will need him if they want to advance.

England are so consistently less than the sum of their parts, and robotic.Β  It's like watching 10 James Milners most of the time.Β  I'd give Graelish more minutes and have the team find him with the ball.
He flows like water on a team of linear athletes.Β  I know how that sounds, but he's different than Mount or Sterling or Foden or any of them.Β  I'd keep him in the side.

The fact that I'd say yes on the first date is just a bonus.

Germans were planninig to light up Allianz in rainbow colors iin response to Hungary recently passing anti-LGBQT legislation.Β  UEFA shot it down.

The Super League has distracted people from how awful UEFA is. Still can't get over how the Danes were told to either play or forfeit after Eriksen almost died

I don't like politics in my sports, and that is one country trying to make a political statement to another.
Besides, they eventually cleared Neuer wearing the "rainbow" captain's armband.

Let's just play the games.

UEFA embraces politics in the sport when they sanction teams for fans racist outbursts, do they not?

Perfect pass wasted by Sarabia, and then a great cross by Azpilicueta goes unmet.Β  Good to see Spain pushing to create these opportunities but they can't miss on them.

They are way more vertical than I've seen them in the first 2 matches. Lots of passes over the top, more aggressive in the tackle.

The goal is coming.
