“Permit Patty” calls cops on 8 year old (1 Viewer)

Not sure what you mean exactly but I want to be clear on my intentions: the law is the law and kids need permits to sell food and beverage. If I see a lemonade stand, I call 911.
i go full Jesus at the temple or Hercules cleaning the stables first

A national issue? Proportionally, aren't these one-off weirdo busy-bodies? This is something all self-identified "white people" must own?

Cellphone cameras + social media can make it seem like vanishingly rare scenarios are happening all the time.

...

Your point is very much taken about the introduction of police too often raising stakes for the worse -- but that's not a question of frequency.
This is hardly some large issue. There are plenty of instances of other races calling the cops on people for really stupid reasons. They just don't get national coverage like this one did.

It isn't hard to find plenty of examples. I posted a youtube video link from a couple years ago (in one of the several political forum threads) that was devoted to stupid reasons people called the police. Plenty of minorities doing it too.

People should also condemn the death and sexual assault threats she is receiving.
I hereby proclaim that I am condemning the death and sexual assault threats that she is receiving.

Feel better now?

P.S. She is a horrible person.

It has kind of become an national issue of white poeple using the police to harass blakc people for existing in public places. Seems like white people resent the incivility of being called on their BS. White people be using the cops like the customer service hotline.

And the downside of bringing cops into common place interactions like this is there is always the threat of severe escalation of a minor deal into a potential threatening situation.
There's also #BBQBetty in the same town - guys were guilty of grilling while black, apparently.

I have no issue with kids selling lemonade, water, iced tea, etc., but I know a handful of people I suspect would call the cops if they saw it in their neighborhood.  Some people are just angry and grumpy.

Screw the guy eating a burrito on BART.  Those cars are cesspools as they are.  They don’t need some idiot dumping his burrito over on a seat. It wouldn’t be cleaned up for a week.
Just don't open a can of tuna, amirite @Ministry of Pain?

The cops should have been called bc she was charging $2 per bottle. Everyone knows you charge a buck

The mother called out the white lady’s white privilege immediately.

The girl got her trip to Disney and still won’t accept the white woman’s apology

Of course thats overboard but i have no problem with her being outed as an ahole. Something tells me shes been a thorn in a lot of sides over the years.
I'm torn on this subject.  Part of me feels horrifically bad for these people when they ruin their lives over 30 seconds of atrocious judgement.  And then part of me is like #### 'em, they know what they're doing.  Who calls the cops on a little kid selling water?

I share this mindset, but then realize she's probably had a lot of 30 seconds of atrocious behavior. If you play Russian Roulette long enough you're bound to lose.

There’s always more to this type of story. Unfortunately for the woman who called she is now branded a racist and her life is ruined.
Am I the only one that found this funny?

Read interview with woman. Sounds like she was annoyed with the noise the girl was making. Called cops.
Did any cops actually come out? Something about this particular kerfluffle is hoaxy. Very little specific detail.
Thought as much: Ms. Ettel merely pretended to call the police.

Very much cra-cra unchecked, but more in the category of "PITA buttinsky" than "hate-spewing demon spawn".

What they failed to report was the little girl was taking used bottles out of the recycle bins and refilling them at the wading pool fountain.

Pure profit. Brilliant.

no, not really.

I find it funny that someone feels bad for the lady.
I guess what people are saying (and I would be more in this camp), is that compared to other videos that have leaked, this one was pretty tame and the person's motivations weren't overtly race motivated.  There have been a slew of these videos were people are yelling at minorities to speak English, go back to their countries, dropping the N word, the president thinks it's OK, whatever.  You don't have that here, so the case could be made that this miserable person would have called the cops on whoever was selling water, and it happened to be a black girl.  It's possible I missed something or don't know the back story too.

Long story short, I am all for horrible people getting theirs, but I also hate this new trend of catching people on a 10sec video and everybody instantly calling for their jobs and labeling them one way or another.

If we limited this to public shaming, that would be fine. Destroying someone's life over something like that is beyond the pale.

Agree with this.  It's just going too far with people getting fired, death threats, whatever.

I know lots of 8-year-olds selling bottled water on city streets.  Nothing to be concerned about there.

I'm sure its just like a good old fashioned lemonade stand.

:coffee:

The pot selling racist San Franciscan who pretended to call the cops on a kid has officially been ruined. So glad justice has been served. Great job team!
