I wish Ruben Loftus-Cheek hadn't hyphenated his name.  Ruben Cheek would be a great footballer name. Ruben Loftus is not particularly great, but its still much much cooler than Ruben Loftus-Cheek.  If his name were Ruben Cheek, I'd refer to him by his last name, Cheek. 

I'd say things like, "Cheek is having a great game today, despite the scoreline" and "Cheek is really coming into his own these days - potential greatness in the making here."
