⚽ Soccer Match-day Thread (2 Viewers)

Hard to judge things after 10 minutes of the season gone (and unfair too) but this looks like the same thing we've seen for a while now against the other top teams.  Concede possession and try to hit on the counter - it's not that it can't work but it's not what the fans want.

Undeserved lead - I think ESPN had United as their luckiest side (or one of them) in the EPL last season - hopefully that continues this year too.

Whoa - blew the whistle there?
Torn on this - concussions and head injuries need to be taken seriously and he did get hit in the head.  Seemed innocent enough but the first time they don't stop play and somebody is badly hurt they will get crucified so better to err on the side of caution I guess.

Sucks that CP isn't starting.

Excited for the start of the season as always - United have huge expectations every season but for me my expectations are very low so it'll be fun if they can overachieve.

I like the 2 new defensive signings but I don't see where the goals will come from.
Unnecessary Kurt Zouma fouls

Man United v. Chelsea - Pogba might be the only world-class player on the field.
Only showing glimpses of that today.

But yeah, this is probably the lowest quality matchup in the last 15 years.  I love seeing all the academy products out there though.  Fun team to root for.

Lampard looks so not confident and just kind of frumpy out there. Dude looks like he is watching a funeral possession.

Yeah, shame on Shaw. You're a 24 year old professional soccer player you fat turd.

Wikipedia lists him at 6'1 165. Yeah....ok

I don't mean to pick on Kyle Martino here - but "Lampard did a great job in the Championship" is #fakenews.

Admittedly, I fell for it also.

But, Lampard took a 6th place Derby squad, with a +22 goal-differential, and turned them into a 6th place Derby squad with a +15 goal-differential.

I’m really disappointed that I forgot to post my rankings.  I had Chelsea 10th but now it will look like I’m reacting to this game.  But the reality when you look at the roster....is that the team is very poor.
Settle down, it was the first game /sharkpool

Thought Chelsea looked decent there...unlucky to hit the woodwork a couple times and looked good...until they didn't. Kante will help in the middle, but the CBs didnt provide confidence on either side of the ball. Not that Luiz would help defensively, but he'd sure help going forward. Mount was surprisingly good, but not sure he's the guy to get them top four. Inauspicious first game for CP with some turnovers and that oof cross in the last minute.

VAR sucks.

Now any handball that then results in a goal is a handball?

Talking about the Dendocker goal for Wolves.
The laws changed, this isnt a VAR issue.  Any handball leading to a goal, even accidental, is called.  Basically saying handballs are now called differently for the offense depending on the result and where it is on the field.

Oh and don't get me wrong, VAR sucks.  the City goal should have stood.
