Odds will settle out in the next couple days, but immediately post-game it's almost exactly 1/2 for City (66%) and 2/1 for Liverpool (34%).

Also VvD's defense on the 2 v 1 should be in a textbook.  You can't stop both of them -- so take one of them away and give the GK a clear idea where the shot is going to come from.  If they score, they score -- but don't try to do too much.

That was nice....

I had no idea what the right thing to do was, but it turned out ok.

while, yes... sisoko was terrible there. needed to drive at the space and make VVD make a decision... instead he looked like he was always hoping to make the pass and went half-assed hoping the defender would come to him eventually, which VVD semed to realize. and that shot... oof.

34% seems terribly low

I've recently added some nice youth-oriented USMNT Twitter accounts to my list.  There's a good bit of useful information, but I find it annoying how hard each of them gets pimped.  IMO all we know about the good ones is that they're ready to move up a level of competition.

swagger

Today's win boosted the chances a couple percentage points, but coming into the day Liverpool had to outplay a better team over 7 games.  It's possible (especially with some luck), but nowhere near a coin flip.
Over 32 games, Man city are “better” by at most 1 point.  Two teams neck and neck in the two important competitions.

City have united and Tott left.  Liverpool have Chelsea.  Liverpool have to win 6 games to win the title.  City have to win 7.

Its 50-50

@MelissaReddy

Gary Neville: "Young defenders, you must watch Virgil van Dijk. He picks the lesser of two evils. Sissoko can have it on his left foot, not letting him pass to Son. He can’t win it, you have a choice: which of these do I want to have the shot? It’s Sissoko. Really good defending"

Please.  The midfield yesterday were a Newcastle reject, a 39 year old (est) grinder who hasn't scored a goal from the run of play in 9 years (est) and Jordan Henderson.

This is NC State vs Phi Slamma Jamma.  Rocky vs Apollo.  The Bad News Bears vs whoever the Bad News Bears played.  A scrappy band of misfit underdogs riding their fortune and never-say-die grit to the end vs an all-time-great juggernaut.

The Bears played the Yankees in the final.

This is absurd. Liverpool are gonna finish with 90+ points. The teams are both elite and the only thing City has on Liverpool is a bit more depth.

Calling Wij a Newcastle reject is the height of silliness.

Fabjnho has been world class all year.  No one has any idea why Klopp benched him.  He should never leave the field.  Hendo has naked pics of Klopp.  Only thing that makes sense.

Sinn steal this login?

And now Arsenal move into 3rd, Tottenham level with United but 4th on gd, Chelsea stay 6th 1 pt back instead of 4 thanks tot he refs.

After their goal, United stopped moving and pressing.  Young hasn't passed to a red shirt yet and keeps holding everyone onside.  Lingard can't pass.  Fred is working hard but keeps slipping and having issues holding the ball.  Sloppy lst 30 mins of the game.  You could argue Lukaku should have done better on his header.  Lingard definitely should have done better on his sitter.  But Lingard is not a goal scorer.

Wolves look good and attack on the counter well.  Very organized.  Showing why they are 7th and in the FA Cup semis.

United looking very much Tottenham now

Smalling own goal makes it 2-1 to Wolves

Probably the ugliest display under Ole.

At the end of the day, with where Jose put them, no one expected them to be this close.  Hopefully they can pull it together, but this was poor.  Poor by the team, Poor by Ole.  It says a lot that the expectations are back with Ole but this was not good

Top 4 race is interesting I suppose, in a "who is least likely to throw it away" kind of thing.
Unfortunate that there's only 1 game left between any of the 3-6 teams.   I don't expect Arsenal to run the table (no real terrifying games, but a lot of road games to mid-table teams left), but it would amuse me to see Emery get 84pts out of a season where the entire fan base practically roasted him on a spit.

Counterpoint to this, of course, is that the best player in this patented late Arsenal surge after they're already out of the title race has been a guy who's leaving on a free this summer.

Wish I could have seen that insane Barca - Villareal game.  Have to do with highlights.  God, how I love Messi's "just spank a rising shot to the goalie side of the wall" free kick technique.

DFB Pokal quarterfinal match today for Bayern, 12:30 eastern on ESPN News.

Yesterday Hamburg beat Paderborn 2-0, and Leipzig beat Augsburg 2-1.

Today Schalke hosts Werder Bremen, and Bayern hosts Heidenheim.

I lived in Germany for two years and don't think I've ever heard of Heidenheim football club.  I don't even recall ever hearing of a city named Heidenheim.

They're up 2-1 and Bayern is playing with 10 men.
My dad was born in and spent a good bit of his childhood in Schwabisch Gmund (Army kid), it's near there. Between Stuttgart and Augsburg. I drove through it a few years ago, we got out and walked around for a few minutes. It's a neat little town. Allianz Arena is probably thrice as big when full.

I'd never heard of them either.  Looked them up...

Promoted out of regional soccer in 2009, into 3rd division.  Won promotion to Bundesliga 2 in 2014.  Currently sit 6th, just out of the promotion playoffs.

It was a fun match.  That second Villareal goal was incredible.  Umtitti was a turnstile and constantly exposed.
