3 yr contract?

Ole, we need you to keep Liverpool from winning the league.

JOB ACCOMPLISHED!
Sure, that's more important than having CL football.

ETA: from a Utd perspective its a little troubling that they are struggling to score, and even worse, losing against the Ev. I mean, the Ev... I expected them to lose against City.

I am torn on Man United.  On the one hand, this run of horrible form is not coming against cup cakes as almost any team in the world loses to Man City and Barca(twice).

On the other hand, I continually see scary historical stats like the one below and wonder if the DNA is just all wrong in the team/organization.

The last time Man Utd lost 2-0 at home in a league match (March 1991), Ryan Giggs made his senior debut

I realize the initial bounce was the removal of Jose and a new sunnier coach coming in.  The team, as most teams do, reacted well and won.  And yes some of those wins were aided by lower teams, but PSG, Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal were all there too.  This team has shown what it can do when it wants too.  This is what drives me nuts.  When you see what they can be, but you don't see it every game.  I expect that from my 10 year old daughter, not a professional playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Something that doesn't get mentioned a lot is who's missing from when they went on their run and now with their dip.  Ander Herrera.  I think he was more important then people want to admit.  His creativity, his tackling, his work rate.  And I think his leadership.

The other issue seems to be De Gea checking out.  Since the WC hes been a shell of himself.  Maybe the saves and shots hes had to take have finally defeated him?  Something is wrong, he isnt saving the shots he made look routine.  2-3 seasons ago neither of those goals yesterday go in.

Ole has his work cut out.  The issue is still Woodward and no Director of Football to work with Ole.  Talent is needed, but the right player will be important.  Woodward via Jose, Moyes, LVG all missed that.  No rhyme or reason in purchases = Lets just go get talent, no balance.
Needs depth at outside back.  Needs a right sided attacker.  Needs another true playmaker/creative type next to Pogba in the midfield.  AND DEPTH everywhere to compete.
Time to move on from Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Young, Sanchez and maybe even Matic.
Squad players should be Lingard, Fred, Bailley, Pereria (unless he can become the next Herrera)
Mata should be given a choice, move on or 1 year at a time bench role.
Promote some kids to inject some desire.

Start with this lineup and build from there:

Martial Rashford ????
      Pogba        ????
        McTominay
Shaw Lindelof ????? Dalot

Regarding the run-in/title race, I think neither team has done much wrong. Ending the season on 98/97 pts is pretty great, in a 38 games season, if both teams win out.

City's toughest game was always Burnley away for me, with only 4 days rest. Luckily for City,  their derby turned out to be a stroll, so they should have no problem with fatigue (except accumulated). Still, it's going to be a very different game, with plenty of long balls for their defense to deal with, and a possible Peter Crouch moment. Not an easy game. Leicester can be a tough game too, if they are up for it, and who knows what Brighton can do, if they are still fighting to stay up.

I don't anticipate Huddersfield at home to be too difficult for Liverpool, in current form, but Newcastle away sandwiches by Barcelona home and away is tough. Ending the season with a plucky Wolves team is not easy either.

I expect Liverpool to win out, and if City does as well, it's pretty phenomenal. That would bring City to close the season with something like 14 straight wins in the league and 18 wins in 19 for the 2nd half.

Wow!  Schalke up 2-1 over Dortmund and Reus just hit with a straight red.

Now Schalke up 3-1.

Helping Bayern out here.

Holy ****!  A second straight red.
when you take out the delays for the red cards, there was almost no time between the actions of red card-goal-red card.  It happened so fast.

Schalke will all but assure their staying up with this win.  Dortmund could have easily thrown away the title race as well.

60' red
62' goal
65' red

This surely hurts Dortmund, but Bayern still have to win.  Granted, their next two matches are against the bottom 2 teams (Nürnberg and Hannover), but their last two are against Leipzig and Entracht .. currently 3 and 4.

Schalke have removed themselves from straight relegation threat, and are three points away from escaping relegation playoff threat.

Leeds score while a Villa player is hurt, rather than putting the ball out of play. In response, Bielsa orders his team to allow Villa an uncontested goal. John Terry also involved.  https://mobile.twitter.com/haroldinhoxl/status/1122482557948452866

FT 1-1
While this is very strange, it is even a bigger issue when you take into account by letting Villa score, Leeds gave up their chance for automatic promotion.  Now if Leeds lose in the playoffs this is going to be a huge story (if it isnlt already).

I used to think the kicking out of bounds was cool when I was young.  Now I am too cynical and think teams take advantage of it to slow down attacks.   Play to the whistle.  It is something every player is taught the first time they lace on the boots.

Give Burnley credit - they did not rollover.
I think with that win it makes it tough on Liverpool - I think their home and away matches are more difficult.

Its interesting that goal line technology will have played a role in the title.  That goal today may have not been given without it.

The whole link is worth watching:  https://v.redd.it/xwnyt1pub0v21

I agree with the bold, it did seem like embellishment at first, but I think he went off injured.

Arsenal's face plant here is amazing.

They went on a nice run picking up 19 points over 8 games which got them right back into the Champions League discussion.

And then their next three opponents were all winnable games in Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton and Leicester. They dropped all 9 points while giving up 9 goals in the three games.

De Gea OUT!

Honestly, I hope they do sell him at this point IF they can get close to what they want for him.  Romero isn’t that big a drop off and they have bigger issues to deal with.

3 - David de Gea has made three errors leading to goals in his last four games in all competitions for Manchester United - as many as in his previous 123 matches combined for the Red Devils

Good - I’m tired of watching this #### for this year.  United shat the bed the last month and that can’t be encouraging for Ole.  They just didn’t have to suck ### and they would be in 4th right now.

Coman with a break away and squanders a 1v1 with the keeper.

Bayern miss an opportunity to take advantage of Dortmund’s loss yesterday.

I love how JT is still jawing at El Loco after Leeds allows the next goal.  Must have been mad that Bielsa didn't also throw-in the chance for Terry to sleep with his wife.
Comment from a reader from one of the articles I read about this:

Never thought I'd be watching a match and have reason to think, "Good thing John Terry is there to help calm things down."

:lmao:

I will be disappointed if Leeds blows this, but I'm excited my beloved Blades, who I took from League 2 to the Champions League finals in FIFA a few years ago, are back in the top flight.

I wrote this last week and didnt click send "luckily Arsenal and Chelsea are helping out by being as bad as United."

Thought better of it trying not to jinx the weekend.   :censored:

:wall:  for effs sake United, everyone trying to give everyone else top 4 and not one team wants it.

Herrera did show why he should be kept.  They are so much better with him in the team.  Does the dirty work so Pogba can just be.

I am really hoping Ole got assurances from the board he would be allowed to proceed as he sees fit and top 4 wasnt a priority.  I feel like he is evaluating players and not necessarily trying to win (Sanchez over Martial when needing a goal, Young still starting, Bailly getting a shot?) and major changes are coming in the summer to rebuild.

Well, Twellman's going to have an aneurysm now.
I would fire who ever made that decision for Spurs.   What in gods name is the protocol if it could not figure out that he was ####ed up badly?

And here is Twellman's take FWIW

Vertonghen under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should have been allowed to come back onto the field.....DISGUSTING PATHETIC demonstration from @SpursOfficial medical staff

Poch has done a nice job  making adjustments, but he got it so wrong at the start.  For as good as Ajax are on the ball, they seem to lack that instinct of when to slow the tempo and just keep the ball  and make Spurs expend energy.

Spurs have no options at the moment - only injuries.  Poch went with the best healthy line-up he had.  Sissoko is coming off a groin injury - so no sure bet to be able to go 90.  Winks just had surgery.  Lamela is perma-injured.  Kane is out.  Son was suspended.  Aurier is injured.

Add to that that everyone who is healthy now is having to play twice a week as they fight for top-4 also.
