French police doing French police things, that said supposedly many Pool fans trying to get into the stadium without tickets which doesn't help things

I've seen that once or twice, but not from anyone official.

Lots and lots of supporters saying they've been there for 2+ hours though at completely closed gates.

I'm trying to piece this together, but did Thierry Henry say "it's not Paris, it's St. Denis -- you never want to be in St. Denis" when someone mentioned French groups were robbing people outside the stadium?

Dominic King@DominicKing_DM

Let this be said now with absolutely clarity: there is no blame to be put on fans here, none whatsoever. French police have used pepper spray for no reason - and I know this because I’ve felt the effects with some colleagues. How these people are being treated is a disgrace

Liverpool fans been saying for 2-3 hours that the police have herded them into a narrow road, blocked on the sides by police vehicles, only to find the gate closed and no explanation for why they can't get into the stadium.  This isn't something that just started.

Haven't seen any vid or explanation of what the teargas is about yet though.
Video they just showed seemed to confirm that. Wtf?

There's video of people showing their tickets at a closed gate doing absolutely nothing and being pepper sprayed by a cop on the inside of the gate.  Kids, women, old guys.  Pretty bad look.

How was “Can you get fans into your stadium in a normal amount of time (and then not blame and tear gas them when you can’t)?” not part of the process for figuring out where to hold the Champions League final?

@Simon_Hughes__
He has also said the problem is locals trying to get in rather than fans arriving late.

@Simon_Hughes__
A uefa official outside the ground trying to placate people has just told me the public address notice that claimed the game was delayed because fans were arriving late was only put out because they did not want to cause distress inside the ground.

James Pearce@JamesPearceLFC

Been delayed that long Thiago is fit again. He's in the tunnel and he starts. No late change to the #LFC line up
Too funny.  Thiago announced the starting lineup, but then warmed up on his own before coming off while Keita took his place with the starters.  But now he's not actually been replaced and is in the lineup after all.

He had to be offside on the first pass into the area right?
Fabinho was simultaneously trying to block a shot and didn't mean to make that touch at all.  Not sure how that gets ruled, but that particular touch was not intended.

But I thought KB was offside on the first pass live.  Can't believe they never showed that again.

It didn't go what he wanted, but he was trying to touch/play the ball.

Also is it just me or is it kind of silly that the rule for offsides is "2nd to last player' and not "last player other than the goalie"?

unintentional hand ball in the box is a penalty, unintentional back pass = offsides, dumb. goal should have counted

And what is in an "unintentional back pass" anyway?  He was sliding towards the goal.  No matter which leg he struck it with, he was trying to hit the ball backwards.  There was no other direction it could go.

All three guys in the studio say it was a good call.  I still have no idea.

Do wonder if "clear and obvious" came into things given how long they looked at it after the linesman on the field called it off.

All of the guys in the studio say it was obviously a good call.  Play by play announcers both say it was obviously a bad call.  I have no idea at this point lol.  Multi billion dollar industry and we can't add an extra word or two into the rules to not make it vague as hell when deciding a champion.

To me it still comes back to, if he wasn't intentionally trying to hit it backwards, where the heck was he trying to hid it as he slid BACKWARDS into the ball.

He's trying to block the shot. Think of it as if that went to Alisson, he could have picked that up vs intentionally passing it to Alisson.

Didn't look like a shot block to me.  He didn't turn sideways perpendicular to the ball to try and block it.  He lunged straight towards it to try and get to the ball first and poke it backwards.

I can't read his mind of course, but I don't know why if the goal was to block you'd get small and stick your one tiny foot out while moving straight in the direction of the ball.  It looked a lot more like a sliding kick than a block to me, but I guess we'll never really know and it is what it is.

I don't think he was trying to pass it to anyone in particular, but definitely looked like he wanted to get to the ball and kick it out of there (in the backwards direction).
