Man City was my pick to win the whole thing as top team that might potentially give enough of a **** coming off a disappointing year. Now I have even less credibility with my 8-year old. "Dad, you are SO stupid!"
So that leaves PSG, Bayern or Real Madrid?
Chelsea holding it up for Europe on that side of the bracket.

I had named Bayern as my second favorite early in the tournament. But I do think the other bigger teams have started to buy into the tournament more, so I'm not sure some of the weaker performances in the group stage may matter as much. PSG is obviously an awesome team and could well win it.

Bayern has both played well and have had players like Kane speak out in support of the tournament and seeming to really care. So it's still my best guess.

Now that Harry Kane has developed the taste for trophies, he's insatiable!

Weather delay in Charlotte. Storm clouds rolling in.
Went to this one. Luckily was in the club level so just walked in circles listening to podcasts and it didn't rain anywhere near the stadia. Fun conclusion too although I get why the Chelsea manager would be angry. Loved the role they were letting Cucurella play. If only he were better with the ball...

What happened to Inter today? Besides Silva?
Very fun support from the Fluminense fans who were partying long before and after the match.

They were just very aggressive and dogged. Always throwing in extra to challenges. Even had some ****-housing from the subs. Inter looked frustrated and tired. Not sure why they took off Dumfires so early because he is such a mismatch. Felt like every time Fluminense got the ball they were dangerous and found space.

I'm excited to see how well MCs continued use of keeping their defensive line at the top of their opponents defensive third will work.

With a lot of preseason training starting up in a couple weeks across Europe, I am curious how this tournament is going to affect teams going into the season.

Window reopens today.
Teams start reporting in about 2 weeks.
United's first preseason match is July 18 against Leeds in Sweden, for reference.

City players are going to have 2-3 weeks off?
Chelsea has another match, maybe more (good thing they are buying another 11 to go with their original 44)
Bayern, RM, Dortmund, PSG still playing?

I'm kinda loving for Barcelona that they don't even have a friendly until their Japan trip at the end of July. Hopefully an advantage next season because injuries really sunk their CL campaign (no slight to Inter, but lack of Balde and Kounde were big).

I was thinking the same about United. Would love to see them play and maybe try and get to a game if they were in the CWC, but having an actual summer break this year will probably be a good thing.

Well, that's the first time I've left a game midway through the second half because the home side decided to change kits at half time to the worst clash I have seen in ages, rendering me unable to tell the sides apart unless I could see the numbers on the back of the shirts

Which match was this?

And how did they allow two teams to have that similar a uniform?

This was a pre season friendly between Glossop North End and Stockport Georgians, and I have no clue

Let's be honest, you're making these teams up.

Maybe that's why they were allowed to have that similar a uniform?

They were acceptable back in the day

Somehow I had no idea that Sergio Ramos plays in Liga MX.
He was out of contract for almost a year in Spain... Couple Spanish players already at the club helped entice him. I think he's making bank there- nice place too, and I actually liked how they played. I think the CWC was a big lure as well- wanting to play against top competition one last time.
Oliver Torres and Sergio Canales, both looked like they were going to be huge at one point. I remember Barcelona fans obsessed with the former due to his passing skill.

He was inches away from another 90+ header goal to level and make a push to advance. The next round would have been vs Real Madrid.

Could be Thomas Mueller’s last game for Bayern today. I hope he gets at least one more.
Sunset of the Raumdeuter

If you're wondering it I just googled the etymology of Raumdeuter and learned that Muller himself coined it as play on the German term for "dream interpreter" the answer is yet. I love that the guy literally came up with a term to describe how only he plays the game.

I can remember a time when I thought it was 50/50 whether Dembele or Mbappe would win a Ballon D'Or first. And, of course, that then seemed completely insane after Dembele went to Barca and struggled. And now Dembele is going to win it first. It's a funny old game.

Wow. PSG looked like a team playing a preseason game to get ready for the season and Chelsea looked like a team trying to win the CWC. Chelsea put them to the sword early then went full cucarella on the game. And PSG sadly took the bait. Rough way to end the tournament, but congrats to Chelsea for winning.

Didn't catch the match, but thought Chelsea had a really strong attack. Cole Palmer is a problem and there is a lot of talent around him to create space for him.

Good for them to get some officially sanctioned Oil money from the Saudis.

I was surprised at how well Chelsea played. I figured PSG would sttack them the way they did RM, pressing high, playing direct and making life miserable. Except it was Chelsea doing sll of that. I was most impressed with how easily cheslea were able to break the press and play killer diagonals to stretch the D, and then get numbers forward to support that.

PSG was letting Chelsea dribble 50 yards and never once stepped to them. It hadn't worked for United all season, not sure why PSG thought it would work for them...

I feel like chelsea broke the initial high press and then had room to dribble or hit diagonals.

Ill admit, i was drinking and eating tacos at a buddys place, so wasnt totally dialed in. But that was my take...and ill stab you over it.

You aren't wrong. But also PSG's defenders just kept backing up, all the way to their box. Even when they had numbers.
