Worilds retired. McCain might be a Dolphin. Kiesel cut. Rough couple hours there.

Yes but for 2015 probably not that bad. The Steelers weren't signing Worilds and they definitely think Keisel is done. The only real loss would be McCain...

This help Deebo's chances of one more year? CFL guy (Lemon) and HoJo look like nice players but would hate to have to rely on them. Add in uncertainty of JJones and thin pickings in free agency. It's like Moats is the only sure thing right now.

Well, on the "bright" side, the cash they'd have had to throw at Worilds is now available...which is pretty meaningless, since they weren't going to sign him anyway. Losing the comp sucks. If he decided to "un-retire" in a year, Steelers would still be awarded that if he signed with another team, yes?

Semi-related: I was really hoping the Chiefs would wind up cutting Hali. He can still play and would provide an excellent bridge to whomever they bring in via the draft, but he tore up his contract and re-signed a one year deal with KC for 3 million less than he made last year. Sucks even more with the Worilds development.

Do you think Harrison's asking price has gone up?

I would say slightly. I don't think he'll ask for Woodley money but maybe $2M

NFL Network reporter just said "the Steelers made an attempt at Darrelle Revis, but it was just too much money."
Given how cheap the Steelers have been on free agency in many many years, I can only imagine how that small that amount was compared to the Jets

when I saw most of the mock drafts having the Steelers going for a linebacker I went to complete :wall: :wall: but given who they are losing lately there is really no choice.

Reports are it was a 2 year deal worth $1 million, a case of Iron City and a $50 gift card to Primanti's.

Surprisingly he turned it down...

If Arthur Moats is the "only sure thing" we have as a pass-rusher, this is going to be a looooooooong season on defense. Like Great Wall of China long.

ex-CAR RB DeAngelo Williams to visit Steelers on Friday per Schefter
He'd make a decent backup to Bell if he signs cheap. Very clearly a guy on the decline, but on a 1 or 2 year deal as a veteran presence, I'd like it. He can catch, he's an above-average pass blocker now after being below average early in his career, good character "team first" guy who'd be satisfied with a backup role on a winning team (F U LaGarrette,) hard worker, good influence (F U again, LaGarrette.) He's not a 4.5 ypc guy any more, but as a 5-6 carry a game backup and emergency option? Sure.

I like Williams and hopefully he has something left in the tank but he'll be 32 in April and was really banged up last year. The only way he makes sense is at the league minimum.

There are a TON of free agent RBs out there so I won't mind if they pass on Williams and look elsewhere...

And he also has to carry the load for a couple of games.

Starting CBs Gay and Blake? Cortez better come out of his funk. And BW Webb better get good real quick.

Losing McCain hurts but let's not get carried away. He was not the second coming of Rod Woodson or even Deshea Townsend. He was decent last year but I don't think he is irreplaceable.

Lewis was supposed to be painful too and then went on to be a bust with NO. CB's are odd creatures. One season they're great, the next everyone is blowing by them. If you ever get a truly elite one you do everything in your power to hold onto them.

Totally agree. It's only because CB is such a need position that it's getting some play. He was a pleasant surprise to be sure, but he can be replaced. I see there appears to be significant interest in Patrick Robinson. I remember liking this kid coming into the draft a few years back, but I haven't exactly kept up with his career since. Anyone know how he's played the last few years?

Other than what I have read on him I have nothing. He seems like he would be at least on the same level as McCain and perhaps more. He's only 27.

I don't think anyone was over-valuing McCain, it just sucks losing a competent player at a position where we already had a very deep need.

I did some reading this morning. Apparently, he was the human torch his first three seasons and a colossal first-round bust, but put together his best season last year approaching UFA status. Feels like Mike Mitchell part 2. I'd be fine with it if he signs a deal that makes him easily cuttable if he sucks, but if he's looking for a Keenan Lewis type deal coming off his rookie contract, no frigging way.

That's my sentiment. Would have liked to have kept him. I'm fine with Gay but after that there's not much unless Cortez rebounds and Blake continues to improve.

I agree that it sucks to lose McCain because of lack of depth at the position but I view him as a third corner at best. I would rather have him than not but I am totally fine going in with Gay on one side and then signing a vet FA, drafting a corner or two and letting them, Allen, Blake and Webb battle it out.

McCain had a huge game against the Bengals but aside from that he was meh as far as I was concerned. I don't know -- maybe I'm not giving McCain enough credit...

Dolphins gave him a nice (but not huge) contract so maybe he's better than meh. I liked how he improved over the course of the season and think he'll be pretty solid. He's better than the other current options already there it seems. They'll have to bring someone else in for sure now.

Jags cut Red Bryant down this way yesterday. Guy is a textbook 5-tech who demolishes the run. No idea the asking price, but the Steelers wouldn't be silly for checking in with his agent.

Reports today suggest Keenan Lewis may become available via trade. Apparently he is upset with the moves the Saints have been making and has been making his feelings known.

Ed B. thinks a deal gets done tomorrow.

I guess it is good news but as I said earlier there are a ton of decent FA RBs available and the market has not been red hot for Williams. I would prefer to see them address the defense first.

Possibly good news as far as keeping Harrison in town is that Titans are resigning Morgan and appear to have a deal with Orakpo.
