Recall what Peyton did on opening Thursday vs Baltimore two years ago?
As much as I love seeing Brady getting hit I don't want to injure him -- just knock him around a bit to rattle him a little cause Brady does not like getting hit.Maybe Harrison can get to him and knock him out for 4 games. I think I'd almost rather see that than the Steelers win.
Totally agree. Bring the kitchen sink and try to get to him. At least gives you a chance. Playing to contain him and not give up the big play is to die by 1000 paper cuts. Big knock against LeBeau that he never figured that out. That said, Steelers have next to no chance in this game: 45-31 evil empire, and I won't be surprised if they put up 50.Godsbrother said:As much as I love seeing Brady getting hit I don't want to injure him -- just knock him around a bit to rattle him a little cause Brady does not like getting hit.Copeman said:Maybe Harrison can get to him and knock him out for 4 games. I have always thought that the ONLY way to beat Brady is to all out blitz every single play in an effort to disrupt his game. If you can't get to Brady you're going to lose, period. LeBeau never seemed to figure this out. I don't know if Butler has the horses to do it but if he thinks dropping back in coverage is a winning strategy the Steelers have no chance.
Yeah, if you're going on the road to the defending champs to open the season, and you're dealing with as many missing pieces as PIT is, you're playing with house money. Your make or break games come much later on. Here, just adopt an aggressive gameplan on both sides of the ball, and hope the dice roll your way. If you get rolled, so what?Totally agree. Good point although the Steelers will try to establish a bit of a running game to eat up clock, at least initially. At least this means good things for the passing game plan on opening night for those of us invested there.
I dont think you beat Brady by blitzing all the time . Recipe for disaster . Teams that rough up Brady & win do it for the most part with their D line & getting Brady in 3rd & longs . Hopefully Nrady comes out with too much energy & tries to force things earlyGodsbrother said:As much as I love seeing Brady getting hit I don't want to injure him -- just knock him around a bit to rattle him a little cause Brady does not like getting hit.Copeman said:Maybe Harrison can get to him and knock him out for 4 games. Agreed. That's why so few teams are able to beat him. He's too quick to hit the hot read and will kill you if you blitz him too much. You have to be able to get to his feet and make him feel uncomfortable without losing coverage players to blitzes.I dont think you beat Brady by blitzing all the time . Recipe for disaster . This defense is not doing that unless several of their pass rushers make a quantum leap virtually overnight and/or James Harrison suddenly finds the Fountain of Ute.Agreed. Didn't say this D just stated how Brady turns into Tommy No Balls when D lineman are able to consistently bring pressure. As a Steeler fan living in the Boston area I get the pleasure to see them every week. a

Luckily the Steelers get the Patriots week 1 before the Patriots offense gels. Unfortunately the defense of the Steelers is going to take time to click.
Hopefully Brady is overhyped taking the field and makes mistakes.
But I'm thinking its 40-24 Patriots

If the Steelers DBs give the usual 8-12 yard cushion Brady is going to pick them apart like he always does. The key is to play the DBs up and do selective blitzes and hope you can get to Brady and/or disrupt the receiver routes. You're likely going to give up some big plays but that is the way I would go.I dont think you beat Brady by blitzing all the time . Recipe for disaster . Maybe they could trade an ILB for a DE.Wow that game last night was hideous. I realize that virtually no starters played but it would have been nice if the JV squad had done something positive. Yikes!
I guess at least Coates made a nice catch, Nix blocked a punt and Scobee's strong leg was on display. Aside from that I am glad this horrible preseason is behind us.
The Steelers should be scouring the WW for a defensive lineman or two...
I would. If he has anything left he would provide better depth than we currently have.Wonder if they'll give Darnell Dockett a call?
Jesse James is a lock. Chick is likely going to PS.Looks like Murphy will be WR5, as we all pretty much predicted, as Phillips was waived. No real surprises so far - Ethan Hemer waived which means that barring a signing from another team's cuts, L.T. Walton is likely going to make the 53. Also just read that supposedly Roosevelt Nix made the 53, which is surprising but a great story. I doubt they're cutting Will Johnson, so that means someone else is being cut from another position that was previously a good bet to make the roster. Jesse James? Chickillo? A safety?
I was wondering if perhaps they'd use Johnson as the 3rd TE and put James on the practice squad. Super unlikely but I don't know if it's out of the realm of possibility. Having 2 FBs is odd for a team that doesn't really use the FB very often.Jesse James is a lock. They like nix a lot and blocking a kick/making tackles on kicks helps his case. Suppose as much as fb he could be 3rd rb. And other options will be available as well.3C said:Shocker there is LEgursky. Did not see that coming!
ETA: but it makes sense since the Steelers have to wait until tomorrow to IR Pouncey. Figure sitting LEgursky out there isn't a huge risk. If someone were to swoop him up they could go after another castoff.
???I look for the steelers to win week 1 pretty easily actually. Pats may be 2 and 3 after indy then they will pick up steam. The interesting matchup will be ben vs tom in wildcard round...perhaps played at pitt.
Steelers were favored by Vegas before the Brady decision. Haven't checked since.???I look for the steelers to win week 1 pretty easily actually. Pats may be 2 and 3 after indy then they will pick up steam. The interesting matchup will be ben vs tom in wildcard round...perhaps played at pitt.
Pats have to be a double digit favorite.
No Bell = No chance.
Only two tailbacks and 7 OL (not counting Pouncey) currently healthy on the 53 so you have to imagine there could be moves at those two positions to beef up depth until Bell and Pouncey can return.3C said:Official now. http://www.steelers.com/news/transactions/article-1/Steelers-reduce-roster-to-53-players-sign-cornerback-Ross-Cockrell/805b9ee2-caaa-4f20-b161-4e36d0811b3a
Pittsburgh released running backs Jawon Chisholm and Josh Harris, defensive linemen Matt Conrath, Ethan Hemer and Mike Thornton, safeties Jordan Dangerfield, Alden Darby and Gerod Holliman, offensive linemen Reese Dismukes, B.J. Finney and Doug Legursky, cornerbacks Kevin Fogg and B.W. Webb, linebackers L.J. Fort, Shayon Green and Howard Jones, and wide receivers Shakim Phillips and Jarrod West.
The Steelers placed offensive linemen Kelvin Palmer and Mitchell Van Dyk on the teams Waived/Injured List.
Pittsburgh also signed free agent cornerback Ross Cockrellto a one-year contract. The 6-0, 190-pound Duke University product entered the NFL as a fourth-round (109th overall) draft selection of the Buffalo Bills in 2014 and appeared in seven games during his rookie season. He was released by Buffalo last month. Cockrell will wear No. 31.
Like someone said, here's the 53 as written in pencil. At least 1 change coming for sure, probably more. Opening 2 weeks, rb's are Williams and Archer. Don't know about you but I couldn't imagine Archer as a ball carrier for more than a couple plays. And Williams wouldn't be asked to carry that much of a load (it is only 2 games though). Not sure they want Johnson or Nix getting carries. Something has to give, right? Maybe they'll go into game 1 with that backfield and pick up some vet insurance after.Only two tailbacks and 7 OL (not counting Pouncey) currently healthy on the 53 so you have to imagine there could be moves at those two positions to beef up depth until Bell and Pouncey can return.3C said:Official now. http://www.steelers.com/news/transactions/article-1/Steelers-reduce-roster-to-53-players-sign-cornerback-Ross-Cockrell/805b9ee2-caaa-4f20-b161-4e36d0811b3a

And the Pats defensive backfield is better? I think not. BB can go toe to toe with Brady, and if Bryant was in there I'd lean Steelers. He's not, so I'm not sure which way I would go if I were a betting man. I do know Brady has been a little underwhelming in the preseason. Hopefully that continues.Brady rarely loses to the Steelers. Bell, Pouncey and Bryant are out. Our safeties are among the worst in the league and corners aren't all that much better. The Pats are coming off a SB win and an emotional court decision in their favor. Anyone picking the Steelers are either fishing, is schtick, or are blindly loyal homers. Brady is gonna chew up and spit out our defense like gristly steak. Bet the Pats (-7) and whatever the over is.
I wouldn't say they have no chance but I think it is much more likely the Steelers lose by double digit.???I look for the steelers to win week 1 pretty easily actually. Will Allen is a decent safety, I've always thought he was underrated. I have no problem with him starting. This is good and bad. Will Allen will be starting opposite Mitchell. I've had bad feelings about Shamarko all summer.
Yep, that's my good and bad. Good that he's starting since he knows the cover 2 well and ha splayed well, bad that Shamarko can't beat him out. Will Allen is a decent safety, I've always thought he was underrated. It is disappointing that Sharmko can't beat him out though.
Interesting. Not sure how much they will play but adds some needed depth.Going a little crazy in these moves today. Chick and Grant released to make room for a RB and DE.
Aaron Wilson @AaronWilson_NFL 6m6 minutes ago
Steelers sign Jordan Todman, claimed Cashaud Lyons off waivers, cut Grant and Chickillo
Also, HoJo claimed by Bucs.
Golden was ST capt last year as well.Team captains named.
Offense: Ben Roethlisberger
Defense: William Gay and Cameron Heyward
Special Teams: Robert Golden
Interesting the team recognized special teams here.
