Don't worry fellas, other companies will make watches for poor people, too. :coffee:
About the only line of logic I've heard from those buying this.Half dozen friends quite seriously can't even give an answer to why they would buy this over any single alternative out there.

Apple cult loyalty is impressive.
Wouldn't an obvious answer be that it just looks a lot nicer and its more of a status symbol. Like why you'd by an entry level bmw or mercedes instead of an accord or camry.
An entry level BMW or Mercedes is nicer than an accord or Camry.
That's my point. An iwatch is a lot nicer looking than the competition.

Not a fully equipped accord or Camry....which would be comparable in price. Probably a little cheaper.

You're mostly paying for the name with the other two, imo.

Wait, you need to have a mobile device on your person to make the new Apple watch work? Or is that the competitors' watch and Apple fixed that ridiculousness?

I don't think you need it for the watch part, but there's not a cellular radio in it that I am aware of, so how do you expect to transfer data etc? Things like this are an accessory to one's phone. I do think there is a small memory chip for downloading a few songs or some such. I believe you also need at least an iPhone5 or newer for it to work. It's probably the nicest looking watch of it's kind on the market. There should really be no debate about that, but it's functionality is lacking so it becomes more of a toy than an actual needed device/tool. This tends to be Apple's approach though and it's worked very well for them over the years.

 shtick detectors need recalibrating up in here... And maybe take this stuff a LITTLE less seriously.
The funny thing about it is that what you are trying to play off as Schtick is real Apple loyal mentality. So many will buy this because..... Apple. Just as well because, as so many times before, it doesn't hold up beyond that.
What? dude I've said repeatedly in this thread this thing is not worth it and I won't be getting one. It's cute that people actually get personally involved in / offended by the success of a product. Why do you care if it sells or if someone prefers it to the "better values" out there? Idea: everyone buys the watch they like, everyone is happy. Boom! ;)
I don't care...

Odd you assumed my statements we're about you.. Or perhaps not so odd?

I'll stick with my fenix 3 on looks. As far as competition looks go.. It looks damn near identical to the android options I've seen.

528i vs Avalon would be a better comparison.

the 528 series is just a 4cyl. Need to compare the 535 to that Avalon. :nerd:

How so? The Avalon is $18,000 cheaper per your link.

Not trying to troll: How do you get to $350 worth of value when you have a smart phone in your pocket?
You don't... This is far from a necessity.

With that being said, I heard the same comments about iPhones and iPads when they came out.
Of course. But a smartphone lets you do things you previously could not do without one. Check email, a GPS map, etc. etc. An ipad replaced laptops to some extent, but I don't think people are going to start dumping their phones for watches, right?
Maybe others have pointed this out - I'm catching up on this thread but if you've been to Disney recently think of what you can do with your magic band and Apple is probably banking on that with the iWatch or whatever it's called. It could be my

- Wallet (credit cards, drivers license, medical cards, etc.)

- Keys for house and car

- Security badge for work or anything else - gym access, etc

and then there's non- magic band stuff

- pair with headphones for music

- all the fitness things people have pointed out (I wear a fitbit band now myself)

- GPS

- normal watch/alerting/scheduling

price is definitely steep but I could see a lot of potential for this IF they get it to where you don't have to pair it with your phone.

I should point out I won't be in the market for one of these (or similar device) for a couple years until they can do what I say above and work out all the kinks.

But I still see a ton of use cases. Obviously it won't replace smart phones as they've become media devices already anyway but there's a ton of things it can replace. I'd love to never carry a wallet and keys every again.

It's probably the nicest looking watch of it's kind on the market. There should really be no debate about that...
Ok icon, since you are so well calibrated can you unpack if this is shtick or not? A flat rectangle on your wrist is now the height of style according to some. If only Casio knew how fashion forward they were with the calculator watch. It really shouldn't be debated. Really shouldn't.

What about the people that say, before knowing any of the features or the cost, that they will be buying an iwatch on the first day it's available just as long as it has an apple logo on it? Is that shtick?

I'm not icon and I don't really understand his shape shtick. There are plenty of fantastic circular watches on the market. No idea what he's talking about.

...but it's functionality is lacking so it becomes more of a toy than an actual needed device/tool. This tends to be Apple's approach though and it's worked very well for them over the years.
What does this mean?
Which part? The first part simply means it can't/doesn't do things that competitor watches do. The second part means, just what it says. For whatever reason they usually release their products w/o all the functionality competitors provide. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not. So for example, there are competing watches that have built in GPS. This doesn't. It will be added in a later model I'm sure. It's battery generally sucks, but it will be improved in the next model I'm sure. Stuff like that.

Friend had one on this weekend. Gave me a little demo. The movement tracking stuff was pretty cool not exactly revolutionary stuff but had it presented in a good way. Person who had it is a huge Apple person so she was getting it regardless.

There was nothing she showed me that made me want to get it immediately like I was when I took a look at the first iPhone.

Biggest problem for me is I don't wear a watch.

Everything out there so far seems to point back to it being a $150+ accessory to the phone. Do the "fitness watches" have space for music etc? If not, that might be the one thing it has over them. Last I read there was space for around 2G of music? Is that correct?

Yes.

I have never won any type of game of chance. Bingo, lotto, you name it...zilch

Until today, when I won a drawing at work for one of these. Very excited.

Yes.
Poorly worded questions....your "yes" was to which one? The fitness watch or the Apple Watch?
The yes was to the Apple Watch holding 2G of music. I'm not sure if that's the exact number, but I know it can hold a decent amount of songs without having the phone nearby.

I'm interested in the watch for giving Siri voice commands when driving (text, email, music...) . My biggest gripe from the reviews is having to charge it daily.

I just got mine today. What do you want to know?
Why you chose it over the other options.
Mainly for running. I was going to get a Fitbit or something else, but I liked the feature of putting music on it and running.
I asked why you chose it over the other options....

eta - this answer pretty much fits what I expected.
Explain yourself. What 'options' are you asking for comparison of?

In case I wasn't clear, I am looking for the reason one would buy an iwatch over the other options they surely looked into before purchasing.

The answers I get outside this forum indicate no effort was made to look into other options, so far holding true here.

YOU'VE CAUGHT THEM!!!!!!!!!
Wasn't a trap. I kind of laid this out there a while back.

Apple has killed it with the iwatch because... apple.

eta - I wonder if people even give a damn when features like this were available to them for months at a fraction of the cost?
