I can easily see this being the Bengals pick if they stay put. Well done.I really think the Bengals trade out of this spot. Last year Lewis traded the 17th pick and ended up with Deltha O’Neil, Chris Perry, Stacy Andrews, and Robert Geathers. I believe the Bengals most pressing needs are DT, SS, C, DE, and hopefully RB. DT is definitely the biggest need. Cincinnati was 26th in stopping the run. The only reason they weren't 32nd is because they got to play the Dolphins and Philly's 8th string. CMart(196) JLewis(186) Staley(123) Green(115) Droughns(110) Brown(147) Bettis(129) CTaylor(139) Barber(109) Some big numbers.
Anttaj Hawthorne DT Wisconsin
Hawthorne finished his senior season with 42 tackles – 11.5 for a loss – 6 sacks. . He is one of the best at plugging up the line and often hits the ball carrier in the backfield. 6'3 312 lbs.. big, athletic and explosive... something the bengals need desperately.
1 San Francisco- Aaron Rodgers - QB from Cal
2 Miami - Derrick Johnson - LB from Texas
3 Cleveland - Antrel Rolle - CB from Miami
4 Chicago - Braylon Edwards - WR Michigan
5 Tampa Bay - Mike Williams - WR formerly USC
6 Tennessee - Alex Barron - OT Florida St.
7 Oakland - Cedric Benson - RB Texas
8 Arizona - Ronnie Brown - RB Auburn
9 Washington - Dan Cody - DE Okalahoma
10 Detroit - Heath Miller - TE Virginia
11 Dallas - Shawn Merriman - DE/OLB Maryland
12 San Diego - Erasmus James - DE Wisconsin
13 Houston - Adam "Pac-Man" Jones - CB West Virginia
14 Carolina - Thomas Davis - FS Georgia
15 Kansas City - Travis Johnson - DT Florida State
16 New Orleans - Alex Smith - QB Utah
17 Cincinnati Bengals - Anttaj Hawthorne - DT Wisconsin
bengals can't really go wrong here, hawthorne or shaun cody would greatly shore up their D, line, the only question is whether go more run-stuffing (hawthorne) or pass rushing (cody). bengals fans should be happy if they get hawthorne at 17 with the premium put on stalwart DT's in today's NFL.I really think the Bengals trade out of this spot. :highbidder:If trades were allowed here, that pick would have been for salespeaking of breaking a teams heartsIt's obvoius that the Cheifs need to fix the Defense. There is a huge need at every level of the D. The cheifs are going to select DT Travis Johnson FSU![]()
we need to wait for the clock to timeout before they pick :rotflmao:Minnesota Vikings are up...This should be an interesting pick for the new owners...Wonder if they will be making the pick with or without Randy Moss...
I'm hope that Williams or Johnson slide to the Chargers actual pick, but with them gone in the mock this was a tough pick. James should be a huge improvement over Cesaire.1.12 - San Diego Super Chargers select - E.James - DE - Wisconsin. I was really torn on this pick, I love M. Spears and Pollack from UGA but James has more talent and who knows one of those guys could still be there at 28. Neither of the elite WR was available or Alex Barron. The biggest need area for the Chargers is WR/OL and then the best defensive player available. Jamal Williams is a true stud in the middle, Igor is on the other side I think E.James steps right in and starts for Cesair on the other end. SD's 3-4 was very good at stopping the run last year and hopefully with Jamal taking double team, E.James can help them generate a pass rush to help out the young DB's.COOL NERD on the Clock with the Houston Texans.P.S. - In Mel Kiper's mock he had Derrick Johnson sliding to SD with this pick and Mike Williams was also available.
.Thanks,JAAIt's cyclical.Seeing as so many DTs have been drafted early in recent years, it would leave one to believe that most teams have at least one young stud DT on their roster now.New England has drafted a DT/DE in the first round in 3 of the last 4 drafts: Richard Seymour, Ty Warren and Vince Wilfork2004 First Round1 1 14 14 Tommie Harris Bears Oklahoma2 1 21 21 Vince Wilfork Patriots Miami (FL) 3 1 23 23 Marcus Tubbs Seahawks Texas2003 First Round1 1 4 4 Dewayne Robertson Jets Kentucky2 1 6 6 Johnathan Sullivan Saints Georgia3 1 12 12 Jimmy Kennedy Rams Penn State4 1 13 13 Ty Warren Patriots Texas A&M5 1 25 25 William Joseph Giants Miami (FL)2002 First Round1 1 6 6 Ryan Sims Chiefs North Carolina2 1 9 9 John Henderson Jaguars Tennessee3 1 12 12 Wendell Bryant Cardinals Wisconsin4 1 15 15 Albert Haynesworth Titans Tennessee2001 First Round1 1 3 3 Gerard Warren Browns Florida2 1 6 6 Richard Seymour Patriots Georgia3 1 12 12 Damione Lewis Rams Miami (FL)4 1 13 13 Marcus Stroud Jaguars Georgia5 1 19 19 Casey Hampton Steelers TexasLeave it to the Browns to draft a DT the earliest and get perhaps the biggest bust of them all...With the NFL's love for DTs as high picks I wonder how much these guys will move up come draft day?
DT makes sense because of Hovan's collapse - Cody is the best available, but maybe not the best fit because of his tweener status.LB makes sense because they have such poor LB play - Channing Crowder is clearly the best left on the board. NFL draft countdown likes kevin burnett because he's a good coverage LBS makes sense because they also have very poor play there, but i am not sold on brodney pool or ernest shazor as being a mid first.CB makes sense because the guy winfield wasnt covering was getting wide open...lots of good picks there jackson, miller, webster, rogers.despite all this, i would not pick any of them if i were the vikes. you can hide all kinds of weaknesses on your defense if you can rush the passer. while a straight pass rusher like justin tuck or matt roth is tempting, i would go with DAVID POLLACK, Georgia.this defense needs fire, it needs a leader, a guy who never lets up, and that is pollack. if you watched any georgia game for the last 3 years, you saw him making plays all over the place. he would be an incredible example setter for the minnesota D. hovan was the fire, the engine of the defense before he fell apart, i think pollack will immediately take over that role...my .02Let's open up suggestions for the Viking pick. GBN Report just released a mock with them taking Channing Crowder LB Florida. I think this is a solid pick as they obvouisly need D. Marlin Jackson, Dan Cody and Marcus Spears would also fit here as well.Votes? Commentary?
if the vikes are going to 3-4, shaun cody or mike patterson would be the slam dunk picks. patterson would be a warren sapp like obstruction in the middle, cody is the perfect tweener for the 3-4 DE position. i would think that they would give kevin williams a chance to be the nose tackle, and go with cody.Arent the Vikes considering a move to the 3-4? If so, they would need a nose tackle and some linebackers probably
I dont think Williams is big enough to play nti would think that they would give kevin williams a chance to be the nose tackle, and go with cody.
williams is 6'5" 310, warren sapp is 6'2" 300...regardless, i cant find anything that confirms that the vikes are doing this, so it doesnt make sense to make a pick based on it.Shaun Cody is a fine pick, and i would imagine that a lot of people would have him as the highest rated defensive player left on the board. I think we should just pick Cody for the vikes and move on, but i reserve the right to second guess us for not taking pollackI dont think Williams is big enough to play nti would think that they would give kevin williams a chance to be the nose tackle, and go with cody.

David Pollack I think goes to the Vikings here.... why is it that even in a mock they exceed the clock.DT makes sense because of Hovan's collapse - Cody is the best available, but maybe not the best fit because of his tweener status.LB makes sense because they have such poor LB play - Channing Crowder is clearly the best left on the board. I know you don't wanna scrap it, but it was one of the options, so thats why I mentioned it. And I might have more threads on my page 1 than you, I think you can mess with those settings somewhere on here. There's no way it was off my page 1 today.I thought Lt would be on here more facilitating things...so maybe there should be a few daytime people that can watch it over and make decisions. Obviously, StL should have known they were going to be up soon, even if he just visited last night. He could have PMed a few picks and explanations. So if StL does not show up soon, we should get another StL homer that will be around everyday to take over or we can just make the pick as we did with Minnesota. Although it was weird that Minn showed up just after we made the pick, and then he wanted the same guy.First, I clearly noted that I don't want to scrap this. I think this is useful and I like it. After all, I did join this because of my interest in the project. As for my pick, I have no problem with waiting as reasonable amount of time. But anyone who is up within a couple picks should know whether they might get stuck. All we are asking for is consideration with that. Doesn't make someone a bad person, but would be nice.Second, my post bumped this from the middle of page 2. I have also seen this as deep as page 3 a couple times. Normally, it is at the bottom of page 1 though. I was simply making a note of the fact that this should not get that far down without some sort of input from people, picking or not. On that note, I will do my part with that by discussing prior picks.
I just sent one to him. He wasn't over in the ffa, but maybe he'll pop in soon.Anybody pm Brave Sir Robin? Hes usually over in the free for all
