2006 Bust Thread (1 Viewer)

RB: W. Dunn.  This guy is always in the value pick section but could be a dissapointment next season.  People like to wait on him to fall as their RB2 and may draft this way hoping he will be a viable RB2.  I don't think he will be a complete bust but in no way does he put up close to 1600 yards of combined offense next season and may finally not be a good pick as an RB 2 next year.  31 years of age and coming off of his best season as a pro usually means a declilne.

TE: A. Crumpler.  He will not be a complete bust but will be drafted before guys like Witten, Cooley, McMichael etc that will all finish ahead of him.  Vick will start throwing more to WR's and take Crumpler's looks away.
So... not a fan of the Atl O next year.
The Atl "O" can be productive with out these 2 guys having huge years. In fact ATL needs more then these 2 guys to be productive. The young WR's should have an increased role next year. Duckett already gets the goal line work and could/should see more touches next season.

Steve Smith - after what he did to the Bears secondary, every team he faces will have two guys desgnated to follow him around every time he steps on the field. Also, I am defining bust as not living up to the lofty numbers that will be expected from the position in which he is drafted. Smith may well have made himself the 1st WR chosen in FF drafts next year and I think he'll have a tough time replicating the success he had this season and therefore justify his draft spot.

People have been saying this for years. Dunn = Good RB.

Dunn only had 3 rushing TDs this year and was still the 12th best RB.

We're talking next year.....

S. Moss gets my vote as #BUST of 06, no way he comes close to putting similar numbers. Reason: Questionable QB's Mark B (year older) Ramsey not the guy for the skins. The skins have no real #2 WR, Moss will see double team coverage every Sunday. A Steve Smith he is not :P

Wow, it's hard to say this guy's name after the great year he had but I'll say it anyways.....Shaun (MVP) Alexander. Going to be 29, losing a All-Pro guard and coming off a great season. This is usually the setting.
Do you know something I don't? I'm pretty sure Seattle will franchise Hutchinson.

Very, very preliminary thoughts:

Ricky Williams

I get the feeling Williams will generate huge pimping for top 10 consideration if Miami decides to trade him into a feature situation. My guess is Miami does good by him and "settles up on old debts" in an amicable parting and Williams is again free to be Ricky. I don't trust it. Can you imagine Williams running behind a Texan OL? He'll be smoking up again by week 5.

Chad Johnson

Totally based on Palmer's injury and the chance it might linger into the season. People will draft CJ #3 WR at worst and I don't see him living up to that without a solid QB. A very tempting buy low target if he starts out slow though. I don't think Palmer will miss the entire 2006 season.

Entire KC Offense

Vermeil? I'll take a chance on his offenses. Nothing about Herman Edwards makes me think offense.

Thomas Jones

I think people are already thinking Curtis Enis in regards to Cedric Benson and will be stunned when Thomas Jones loses his job 3 weeks into the season.

Shaun Alexander

Bear with me, I'm viewing bust as a relative term. I seriously contemplated taking Shaun Alexander #1 in my redraft this year, because I knew he was playing for a big payday. What will he be playing for after he gets a big payday? Recovering from a concussion? Rumor had it the Seahawks feared giving Alexander a big payday even though it sounds like a no-brainer to lock up a back of Alexander's caliber. But they tender the guy? Hmmm. I'm just going to trust that they know something I don't.

Fine, he may not live up to expectations. Really though, the past two years the #1 receiver in Carolina has finished as the top fantasy receiver. I don't see Colbert replacing Smith. You think teams all season long were refusing to double team Smith? If he is drafted #1 and finishes #5 that does not make him a bust. Honestly, if the guy were the size of T.O. I doubt there'd be a fantasy player that wouldn't be proclaiming him as one of the greatest ever.

Here is the name of the Ultimate Bust Candidate for '06:

Joe Horn

By Week 4 of the '06 season this guy will be waiver-wire fodder

With the Palmer injury, that should effect their practice time together. Timing could be off early on?Agreed that he may be one of those "buy low" guys after the first few games.

Like I said, I don't think Palmer will miss the entire 2006 season. However, I also won't assume Palmer will be back at 100%, if at all, in 2006 given the timing of his injury. I'm sure word out of training camp will be "Palmer is right on track" and CJ will remain a top 3 WR. He has as good a chance as any top tier player to underperform based on his situation.

I agree wif Friday Frenzy.

Look no further than:

Lamont Jordan
He could be, but I am banking no. What is your reasoning as to why he will be a bust???
You and I were in the same boat this year with jordan. But next year I have concerns. The O-line is horrible. Is Kerry still the starter? If not the check downs to Jordan may disappear alot.

The checkdowns could very easily be used by another QB. It's probably a function of the system, not the QB.

You just named every reason that Moss was not supposed to be successfull in Wash THIS year. You do realize that I hope.

Well, seeing that Norv Turner is gone, the system may be gone as well.

Except the stars aligned and Brunnel was better than anyone imagined he'd be plus Moss FINALLY stayed healthy. And Most importantly Last year Moss was a later round pick and had no where to go but up - Next year he'll be drafted in the second tier of WR's and will have no where to go but down.

Not necessarily an entire bust, but certainly a 1st round bust: Edgerin James. If he stays in Indy, he will be fat and happy. Plus I think Peyton Manning will blow up next year to prove his playoff failure this year wasn't his fault. If he moves to another team, it certainly depends on where he ends up.

Hate to say it, but Tiki should be considered. This is somewhat ironic, since I have read that nobody will let him fall in their drafts again. The thing is, he just had a monster year, one where everything alligned perfect for him. Two two hundred yard games is surely an abiration. He is not getting any younger, either. I'll also add that Brandon Jacobs was rarely seen this past season. I can foresee him giving Tiki some breaks more often.
That would be THREE 200 yard games!!!! :hot: I'll say this for Tiki ... you hear athletes say "I'm in the best shape of my life" as if trying to convince themselves of the statement. In Barber's case, he looks the part. He's definitely bigger and stronger than he was in his mid to late 20's. He also doesn't seem to have lost any speed. I agree that he won't post the same numbers he's had the last two years but I still see him being a viable RB 1.

I tend to agree with the poster who suggested Warrick Dunn is due for a precipitous fall. He had a heck of a year this season and has gotten little credit for it. However at 31, I'm not sure how long he can sustain it. He's not nearly as big as Tiki.

Santana Moss is a glaring example of a guy who won't duplicate 2005.
