*** 2006 Chicago Bears Thread *** (1 Viewer)

I am a Lions fan, but I have been saying for weeks a 16-0 record is a real possiblity. This is the best Bear team ever.

I never knew the '85 Bears were in the running for this season's Super Bowl:STEVE SMITH >>> 06 Bears D, O and ST >>> whatever the NFL wants to schedule for them
Edited for accuracy. The second coming of the day of reckoning is a ways off so enjoy a great season in the meantime.

Gamblor, you can tell he doesn't get it, and won't ever get it on his own, have some pity and spell it out for him.

:)
I guess you Bears homers are right. Your 5-0 start has proved the doubters wrong.

You have played nothing but top-flight competition, the cream of the NFL crop, and dominated them like no other team ever has.

Everyone else is playing for 2nd place.

The rest of the league just hopes you stop with your 4-peat so other teams don't get discouraged and disband so that they won't have to lose to the greatest team EVAH!
Dude, you are so freaking clueless. Gamblor's point is not that the Bears have a tough schedule THIS year. The point is that the schedule the Bears have THIS year is tougher than the schedule THE RAM"S had in '99. I don't think anybody has said the Bears have had a tough schedule, I think the toughest part is going to be the 3 games in a row on the east cost.

I typed it very slowly for you, I hope that helps.

Tough schedule or not, the Bears are crushing opponents while teams like Indy are squeaking by Tennessee.

The homerism in this thread is reaching Patriots level, but the Bears do look great so far. By my count they don't play anyone decent until week 10 (Giants), so they could be on a tear for quite awhile. However, the world could end in week 12 when the two greatest teams of all time collide.

Why is that. The Bears Schedule has seen one decent team minus the reigning NFL MVP, and 4 teams that will be lucky to finish .500, 2 of which will be battling for the #1 pick in the 2007 draft. Do you consider that tough?
What grade have you completed? Who said they had a tough schedule?
I'll type this slower so that you might be able to follow along. Doug Drinen said the Bears schedule has been tougher then the '99 Rams. I said that mentioning "tough" and the Bears schedule is wrong because they have played 1 good team, who were without the '05 NFL MVP. I don't think I can be any clearer then that.
Let me help you out here in terms you may understand. One might argue that Big Bird is tougher then Elmo. Does that also mean that person is arguing that Big Bird is tough?
Improper sentence structure, misuse of the word "then" instead of the proper word, than. If you're going to "school" someone, you might check yourself first! THAT I know! That guy that said that. He is smarter thEn that guy who said that! Now thAN! Take THAT!

Last time I checked the Giants were 2-2, so how do you figure they're 'decent'???Hell, the 2-0 Vikings and 3-0 Seahawks were undefeated when the Bears faced them.

Are the Bears having a team scrimmage on Week 12?

I said decent, not terrific and I meant the rest of the season, not the games they've already played. The 49ers or Jets might fit that category, but not in my opinion. Of course, the Giants might not either by that point in time.

Oct 16 @Arizona

Week 7 BYE

Oct 29 San Francisco

Nov 5 Miami

Nov 12 @N.Y. Giants

Nov 19 @N.Y. Jets

Nov 26 @New England

As for week 12 (Nov. 26), this board, ESPN, and the whole world might implode when they face the Patriots. The NFL can only have so many geniuses and greatest teams at once you know!

I'm not worried about the Giants or Pats. I'm worried about that flippin' trap game inbetween: The flippin Jets. The Bears have had a tendancy to play down to their competition on the road (and they might look forward to their next two games, @ New England, and the Vikings game at Soldier Field). The game at the Rams dome is also a concern. The Rams did an awesome job of spreading the ball around today. The Bear have had difficulty with the Rams the past several years down in St. Louis.

What, that Ditka isn't God. It's still a toss up between that and the fairy tales you spout.

I am sick over the fact that after years of suffering through lousy draft picks and bum QBs this team is actually fun to watch. Both sides of the ball are just dominating! Yeah- somewhere along the schedule we will lose (maybe the damn Dolphins again) some games but it is clear- this team will win the division.

There is not one team in the NFC north that can keep pace with the Bears and that includes a very overrated Viking team. We have another game with the Vikings so we shall see if they can hang tough with the Bears. I was not impressed with the Viking offense in the least bit as they struggled at home with a lousy Detroit team. Detroit and GB are just cooked. As long as Detroit has Matt Millen in there they will be cannon fodder.

I say- take ‘em one at a time. Let the media talk about the Eagles and TO and the Manning brothers. Let that redundant nonsense go on and on while teams like the Bears, Chargers and the Jaguars roll on. If you are not paying attention to these teams you will soon get a heaping dose of reality…..

Not quite, fool. The Patriots will CRUSH the Bears on Nov 26. Write it down. It's a lock. Lovie can't hold BB's jockstrap. Grossman is a fraud. Brady is GOD. You lose.Proud tool in the house. Peace out.

What argument??? You seem to contend that the Vikes gave the Bears that game, when the FACT is the Bears took it. If it makes you feel better, the Vikes are the only team that the Bears have not completely dominated so far this year, that is a fact. The Bears did prove they are a better team than the Vikes by coming back and winning when they didn't play very good. You lose. :bye:

But you didn't win the game, now did you pal?Now go on...go struggle to beat another winless team at home while the class of the NFC goes forward on their quest for Super Bowl immortality. I think we're done here. :bye:

Speaking as a Jags fan, all the media hype for TO, the Mannings, etc is fine with me. This isn't college football were the hype matters. Please continue hyping the big market teams and ignoring little ol' Jacksonville. If I was a bears fan I'd hate threads like this. Point stats aside the Bears have a long way to go before reaching the 14-2 colts of last year or the 15-1 steelers of a couple years ago. How'd those two teams do in the post season? Don't get me wrong, I've been a bears hater in the past and freely admit that they look awesome this season. But I'd be careful wishing for too much hype about how great they are and comparisons to the great teams of all time.

The scary part is that is the only really tough game left on the Bears schedule. A couple of the teams are middle of the pack teams and the rest are lower-tier celler dwellers. Certainly anything can happen in the NFL, but the Bears path to 16-0 looks doable. The Bears will go into the Patriot game realizing they have something to prove. If the Bears do make 13-0 and probably have clinch home field advantage, then all they have left is GB, TB, and Detroit. I think the Bears will have learned something from the Colts last year and really try to win those games.

^Wadsworth-

I am not too concerned with this at all because all it represents to me is looking at ESPN eating more crow just like they did when the White Sox won it all last year. This team does not and will not get any hype until they lose and then the networks will pile it on high. With all due respect- the Bears have a slew of haters. This is the price we pay for being the charter team of professional football. When the team is on top there is nothing better for a fan. When they lose- the rest of the NFL hates them and loves it! The Jags? Solid defense, firm running attack, talented young QB, strong backup players, young, getting better on both sides of the ball! Sounds familiar. Beat the Colts and you win the division!

The Colts are a great example of what happens in the regular season doesn't matter in the playoff's. The Steelers showed it doesn't matter how you get to the playoff's, just what you do when you get there. The Bears last year showed that taking the week off, before the playoff's is a bad idea.As long as the Bears keep playing the way they are now, no matter the opponent, they have a great chance to go all the way. :football:

The biggest laugh I have had today is reading this nonsense. A comic book makes more sense then this post. While I have a great deal of respect for the Patriot organization for winning and for fielding a class team- this is not going to be a lock. The Dolphins gave this team all that they could handle with a make shift QB and a stingy defense. The Pats are very inconsistent this year on both sides of the ball. The great Ben Watson is not getting it done and Super Tom is posting pedestrian numbers. All I am reading here is a bitter Pat fan still hurting from that Super Bowl beat down the Bears delivered to the hapless Pats. Toss in the White Sox crushing the Red Sox hopes last year and we have a

The Bears are a scary great team this year, but has Lovie overthrown Ditka in Bears lore yet? Until that happens, I think you Bears fans need a little perspective. Yikes.

Reasonable speculation on your part, but you have misjudged my "over the top" response. I posted what I did because the board always harasses the front-runner. It happened to the Patriots; it happened to the Steelers, and now it's happening to the Bears. If people are going to come out and label Patriots fans as un-paralleled homers, I am more than willing to oblige their characterization.Oh and yes I am VERY bitter that a group of dandies who made a Village People music video WAXED my beloved Patriots, and I'm looking for revenge.

The only problem is I don't see anybody beating Da Bears this year.

Peace out.

Ok, maybe I should have said approached Ditka in Bears lore :) My point is they seem to be a great team after 5 games in the season and have a favorable schedule to the playoffs. So, if you're not willing to put Lovie up there as Ditka, jr because of the small sample size, then maybe the rhetoric needs to be dialed down just a tad for the same reason
I think you Bears fans need a little perspective. Yikes.

Clueless??? The whole point of my original post was that the Bears schedule HAS NOT been harder then the '99 Rams. It hasn't been harder then ANY 5-0 team.

How many times do I have to say it? :wall:

How many different ways do I have to say it? :wall:

If you would like to debate that point then go right ahead.

P.S. Please call off the grammar police. I would never in a million years claim to know the proper then vs than usage rules, and I would venture to guess that 95% of this board doesn't know or care about them either.

Amen. There is and will never be another Ditka. But we could get close. All Lovie needs is a pair of aviator sunglasses, a bad sweater vest, some gum and a big ol' stogie. Oh, and a mouth that spews timeless gems like "See that buddy? That's your IQ. ZERO!"Smith-ka. :lmao:

I am a Bears fan. I do think that at this point they are probably the best team in the league at this point. Honestly, they have played a cake schedule so far. The only playoff team is the Seahawks. I realize that you can only play the teams you are scheduled to play, but there is a lot of football to be played. The 05 Colts were mentioned, and conversely, the Steelers sort of came out of nowhere last year. There are a lot of good teams in the NFL. I would feel better if the Bears had already beaten a few more of the better teams, suchas, the Bengals and the Eagles. There is reason for optimism, but let's not get out of hand with it.
Bring em on. After their last two games there isn't a team in the NFL I would be scared to see on their schedule. I think our defense can shut down anyone, and our offense can score on anyone.

Amen. There is and will never be another Ditka.
Bill Swerski: Now, gentlemen, let me ask you this: What if Da Bears were all 14 inches tall, you know, about so high? Now, what's your score of today's game?Carl Wollarski: Against Da Giants?Bill Swerski: Yes, give 'em a handicap.Carl Wollarski: Bears 18, Giants 10. And that would finally be a good game.Pat Arnold: Yeah, it would be a good game. Mini Bears 24, Giants 14.Todd O'Conner: What about Ditka? Would he be mini, too?Bill Swerski: No, he would be full-grown.Todd O'Conner: Oh, then, uh.. Mini Bears 31, Giants 7.Carl Wollarski: Oh, hold on. Then I change mine, too. I thought it was Mini Ditka.Bill Swerski: Okay, gentlemen, another scenario: Da Bears, they don't make it, the plane is delayed.. and the only one who shows up is Ditka. Ditka vs. Da Giants. Okay, score, gentlemen.Pat Arnold: Alright, after da heart attack, I gotta say Ditka 17, Giants 14. He just barely gets by.

Two major points...

It doesn't matter how dominating a team is, they will have trouble on the road in their division. The 85 Bears won by 9 at 7-9 Minny, won by 8 at 2-14 TB, and won by 6 at 8-8 GB. No matter how good this team is, the Vikings are a solid NFL team and almost all great teams will struggle with quality opponents on the road in the division.

The Bears are the most complete team in the NFL right now. They are getting great QB play, can run the ball, can stop the run and the pass, and are getting superb specials teams play. They are making the big plays on all three phases. That said, I see two things that can derail the championship hopes of this team. One is major injuries to Grossman, Urlacher, or Harris. Second is if Grossman has a mistake filled Minnesota type game in the playoffs against a team that takes advantage of it.
