2007 Rookie Draft Picks (1 Viewer)

I stocked up on 2007 picks two years ago in anticipation of Adrian Peterson. I am disappointed in how this class is evolving (admit, not an avid college football viewer). The players that people are gloating about:Brady Quinn - He has the physical tools andd attitude to make it (IMO)Brian Brohm - Never seen him play, based on what I have read he looks to be the top QBDrew Stanton - If you cant lead your team to victory vs Illinois...what can you do?Adrian Peterson - IMO opinion the top prizeMarshawn Lynch - I know he is a different back than JJ Arrington, but how elite is he?Kenny Irons - I did watch him vs. the Gamecocks and came away unimpressedMichael Bush - Hurt. Is he the next Eric Shelton?Calvin Johnson - Looks great. I would like to know more about his passion/work ethic.Ted Ginn - The Reggie Bush of WRs. Is he a glorified Santana Moss (good), or a Antwan-Randle type player (bad).Sydney Rice - Big players make big plays when it counts. Didnt see it vs. AuburnDwayne Jarret - Mike Williams clone scares me - Lions fanSUMMARY (again from somebody who doesnt watch much college football):A very "light" draft class. Peterson is the prize. The rest is up for grabs (I also know nothing is guaranteed). Depending on where I end up drafting, I may trade some picks away straight up for 08' picks.
Be careful of aligning the talents of players too closely with players who have attended the same colleges. some observations: Lynch- Is about as far from JJ Arrington as possible. If not true elite he at the top of the "next level" and IMO easily the 2nd best RB that is probably coming out in this class. Strong inside runner with good speed and quickness to the outside also. Pretty complete player. Personally, I like RBs with his build (5'11 220 ish) more than Petersons body style, but Peterson appears to really special, while Lynch darn good. Bush- Very big guy like Shelton, but a lot more diverse and athletic (IMO). If RB does not work out seems to have H-back or move TE skills in terms of hands, etc. Jarret-seems quicker and more fluid than Mike williams. Also, does not appear to have the natural thickness williams does. Williams weight was predicted by several teams and some in the draft community. People seem to be questioning Jarrett's off-the field and attitude now. Irons- really smells like a guy I would like as a career back up at best a Chester Taylor type. He produces but I would not be happy investing a top 5 fantasy pick in him. Brohm-When he plays looks like the real thing, but has had injuries in two consecutive years. Not a fan of QBs who have not played a lot. Think he will best served staying in college and getting games under his belt. Calvin Johnson- appears to be complete in terms of having a solid work ethic, attitude and family background along with superior skills. Honestly, until you watch how a guy reacts to having the millions in the bank, this is always in question. Right now appears to have the Andre Johnson personality versus the Chad Johnson personality.

Ken Darby looks like he has the talent to put up solid FF numbers in a good system.
He smells like a zone-blocking RB to me. Not anything special in terms of size/speed combo, but get what's blocked and runs hard with some ability in the passing game.

For me, it is way too early in the fantasy season to really figure out the weak teams. Some of the 0-2 teams are high scores who have played bad match-ups and some low scores may have injuried players returning. I am also assuming that your league has good, competitive owners from top to bottom. Also, even if I am extremely deep somewhere, bye weeks and injuries have a way of challenging depth and wishing I hadn't made that trade. I will admit this is the time of year where you probably can get the best value by trading for a draft pick. Right now, every owner thinks he is picking as at least a playoff team.As for your list, think a couple of these names will drop off. Brohm for example would be wise to go back and prove he can stay healthy for a season.
I have one of those. 1-2 but 2nd highest scorer in the league. Better than 2 3-0 teams.

Here are additional guys who I think may wind up draftable.Seniors:Steve Hicks Iowa State Curtis Brown BYUJohn Cornish KansasDraft-eligible SophomoreAndre Brown NC State
Agreed. Cornish is a guy on the radar. I haven't researched him or seen him play yet, so I didn't include him, but I agree he is. Same story for Brown.Hicks I haven't seen much of this year. He is kind of Mike Bell guy. He doesn't have impressive physical tools, but he is a hard-worker and hard-runner. I don't think he gets drafted, but he'll be a priority UDFA. Terry Caulley is another guy I'm waiting to see again. He's too small, but finally healthy and with Brockington gone, could put up some huge numbers. Amir Pinnix is an underclassmen to watch. He was a bit up and down, but a big game tonight against Michigan makes him a guy to track. He would really have to blow up to declare, but the Gopher RB Factory always has the top guy looking over his shoulder. I also noticed I forgot Chris Markey, he's another underclassmen to track.Andre Brown fall into that Larry Fitzgerald gray area. I'm not sure of the circumstances of his stop at Hargrave, but if he didn't get his HS diploma in 04 (i.e. was it just b/c he DNQ or did he have credits to finish), I'm not sure if he is eligible. Unless he sheds spliting w/Baker and really blows up in the ACC schedule, I don't think he'd consider declaring.

Lynch- Is about as far from JJ Arrington as possible. If not true elite he at the top of the "next level" and IMO easily the 2nd best RB that is probably coming out in this class. Strong inside runner with good speed and quickness to the outside also. Pretty complete player. :goodposting: This is exactly how I feel about not only Lynch, but Lynch v. Peterson. The comparison of Lynch and Arrington begins and ends with they played for the same team. Lynch is the complete package, he's a HR-hitter (at least six career TD runs > 30 yards) and a good receiver. He has ideal size and runs low, whereas at Peterson's height, he's going to take a ton of hits. I don't short Peterson b/c of it, he's absolutely a unique talent and could be the next Eric Dickerson, who's build he shares, but if you are talking body type in a vaccuum, Lynch's is preferable to Peterson's.

I agree with the comments about Kenny Irons. He just does not impress me at all. I am more impressed with Mike Hart. Hart doesn't have any of the measurable skills you look for, but if you watch him play then you realize there are some things that can't be measured.

If I had to make an educated guess right now, I'd guess that Lynch and Johnson are the best RB and WR from the next draft class. I think Coolnerd hits the nail on the head about both of them above.

You like Lynch better than Peterson?
Well, like and think will end up being the better NFL back are really two different things, LOL. I think that Peterson is taking a pretty big workload for a college back and with his taller stature and upright style, I fear that he may wear down quickly in the NFL, especially going early in the draft to a poorer team than Lynch would likely go to.

Makes sense. I think Lynch and Peterson are near equals myself. Most seem to think there's a significant gap. I think they're both elite, very elite RBs.

So as of now are others buying or selling?

I bought early in most of my leagues ...

Am waiting for Bloom to shine in March ...

Also, I guess there is the question of what you are buying or selling ...

I would probably be selling picks 3-6. I have been buying lots of picks in the 8-32 range ...

:blackdot:

Good info. With FA and more mocks things have changed.

Have your thoughts changed?

Also:

How do you think '07 picks relate in value to '08 picks.

I am thinking of moving '07 picks for '08 picks. :fishing:

I am thinking a top 3 pick this year would be worth 2 picks in the top 10 next year.

I can't see a lot of picks below 1.03 this year getting much in return in picks next year.

Is it a sellers market (selling top 3 this year for mutilple/better picks next year) for teams who are not in a 'win now' mode?

I have the 5th, 7th, 10th and 11th in my 12 team league contract salary league with deep IDP. I would love to move into the top 2.

I am probably going to over pay to do it. I feel that Johnson and Peterson are both "special players".

I am actually working on trading Fitzgerald at the moment and would strongly consider the 1st or 2nd pick straight up for him. After the top 2 picks though I am not overly excited about the next 7-10 players I expect to go in the first round of my leagues draft. It isn't a league where running backs are flying off the board, so I think I can get the tier 2 running backs later. I selected Maroney 7th last year in the rookie draft for example.

Patrick Willis, Laron Landry and Brandon Merriweather are players on the defense side that I am considering as big potential IDP scorers if they land in the right situation.

Lets make that April.
If you don't think Bloom, Baca and Lammney, (I don't know Faletti's work) are already shining over at nfldraftguys.com you are missing out. Top-notch scouting reports from people who have actually watched film or live games and drills that most of us haven't.

Let me know what you were hoping for in March that you didnt get, and ill try to bust it out before the draft. We are up to 40 in the 2nd version of the bloom 100 over at nfldg

I offered Steve Smith and the #8 pick for the #2 to get Calvin Johnson but was turned down. One factor is that our Dynasty League has a $250 salary cap and Smith is at $36 (4 years by $9) right now.
