2008 DTV Sunday ticket and superfan deals (2 Viewers)

Fellas, the price of this will be whatever the majority of people are willing to pay for it. It's obvious that the price last year was too high, and so they are dropping it and trying to figure it out.

As someone said earlier, it used to be $100. That seems about right. I bet if absolutely everyone on this board who planned to get it called in from now until late July, saying that it's simply too pricey, but they would sign on in a second if it was $100 for the base package, I bet by next season we would see a price of about 129.99. But it would take complete committment and at least a quarter of their marketshare for Sunday Ticket from last season. Probably would never happen, but even if everyone on this board that is planning on getting it called and all said $100, I think they would get the message that their price is simply too steep, especially in today's economy.
:kicksrock: The price went UP $20 from $249 to $269. That does NOT include the $99 SF price.
i have called DTV 3 times and each time they have told me the $269 includes the ST and SF
Thats because pricing for SF hasnt been set yet. Just trust me it does NOT include SF.

Just another tip: email! When they did this thing with the new HD boxes, I wanted to go from just a regular box to HD-DVR and they weren't budging after 3 phone calls about lowering the price from $299. One email to their department about the inconsistency of their phone responses, how long I've been a customer, spending over $1000 a year (get the hockey package too), and about how good of a deal DishNetwork had going (obviously this wouldn't apply here), and I got the HD DVR for the $19 shipping & handling charge and free HD for a year. So don't forget that possible avenue too.
over the past 2 years I have got 4 free HD DVRs
How so?
just called and asked. They say I am a A customer. I have been with them for 13 years and get every channel they offer, this might have helped. I am hearing they will rent equipment now, like cable companies. just charge you $5 per month per box. they do this any way.

wife= that direct ticket is too expensiveme= at this point in my life, i dont play golf anymore, i dont go fishing anymore, i dont get to play in the country club poker games anymore, i dont get to go to nightclubs anymore, i havent been to a strip club since we got married, i dont smoke pot anymore, i sold my camphouse, i dont go hunting anymorewife= ill order tommorrowme = thanks babe, i knew you would see it my way
Great post! :bag:For me, the justification is easy. We were purchasing our Colts season tickets from a friend. Now we are just buying them on a game-by-game basis. Our tickets went from $110/seat/game to $180/s/g.We'll use the saving from just 1 game to purchase the ST and Superfan. It was a no-brainer.

Cancelled Sunday Ticket, though it sucked to do so. :( Texans season ticket holder, so 8 weeks out of 17 I'm at the game instead of at home, and even the afternoon games are half over or worse before I make it back home. Throw in another 2-3 weeks in the summer when I'm out of town and it just wasn't worth it to pay what they want for a half-season's worth of viewing. Told them they need to go back to letting you buy it week-by-week, but I'm not holding my breath until it happens. At least with NFLN rebroadcasting games I should be able to see all the games I'm interested in, if late. Maybe not choosing games to watch based on my fantasy players will help me enjoy watching football more like I did before getting into FF. (No, I don't really believe that, but hey it sounded good.)
Greg, did they make you any offers in effort to keep you as a subscriber?
They didn't, though I called the regular support line instead of the customer retention line. I realize they probably would have made me a better offer, but I think the cost has just gotten too high over the years. I doubted they'd cut it to a point that would make it worthwhile over just watching the games a day or two later on NFLN. And I was looking to cut my DTV bill overall. Also dropped HBO and the Sports Pack (since anything worth viewing in the Sports Pack now requires Sunday Ticket, Center Ice, etc), though I had to upgrade my regular tier to get Versus so I can see the NHL games and playoffs. I'll be saving about $300 a year not even counting the price of Sunday Ticket.

If you live close enough to have season tix, shouldnt you get to watch all the away games on regular TV anyway?
Yes, we get every Texans game. Having Sunday ticket was more about being able to flip between all the different games whenever I wanted. Back in the days of the Tivo tuner it was possible to pretty much watch two games live, pausing one and flipping to the other during commercial, resuming to the next commercial, flip back, etc.But the DirecTV DVR makes it a bit more of a pain to do that since you don't have as much control of the tuners. It won't continue recording on the 2nd tuner when you flip, unless you tell it to actually record. And it won't let you pause and then hold that spot until you come back to that tuner.

ah those were the days.... I did so appreciate that functionality.....

I just called to see what deal I could get on the ST and the SF, got to CR. I am getting the ST for $249, $20 more than last year,Auto renewal starts on the July bill . They said the SF was $99, 3 other operators told me $269 was for the ST and the SF- that is DTV for you :hophead: . She said they do not have the ability to give the $20 off per month or any other discount off per month like last year. But later on she offered me $5 off per month :whoosh: for 6 months if I would keep the SF, I said no, to me it is not worth it. I will call back in Aug to see if I can get the SF free or a better discount.

Called back to get a different CR rep, first one did not know much. He said to call back in Aug and they will have the ability to give discounts to off set the $99 fee for the SF.

I just sent an email request to see if they could do $10 off/month for a year, credit the DVR service fee for a year, and maybe throw in some type of free movie services.

I'll post the response when (if) I get one.

:crossesfingers:

they are giving cinemax free for 3 months if you order hbo, I already have hbo but called them to see if they would throw in the cinemax anyways and she did so no questions asked. The deals will come later this summer for the ST....

Not a ST deal, but I was able to get a free HD receiver, dish, and $10 off monthly by mentioning Verizon FiOS TV was available in my area. I know some people had said they were cracking down on free stuff, but they gave it to me without much fuss.

Did you already cancel? Will you just call back in August to re-order?

Bumpalicious

I'm moving in mid to late July, and I am trying to decide what TV service I am going to go with. I currently have Verizon Fios, but that won't be available where I am moving. I know the past few years they have offered free service for four months to new subscribers who purchased the Sunday Ticket. I might just call them, tell them I currently have Verizon Fios, and see what they would be willing to do for me.

DTV listed their "4 months free" offer yesterday. Order NFL Sunday Ticket for $74.99 for four months ($299.96 total) and get the Premier package free for four months (includes HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, and Starz). You also get a free HD DVR upgrade and free DVR service for four months. You still have to pay the $9.99 to get HD channels, and there is still nothing on the web site that lists the cost of the Super Fan package.

Last year I moved in mid-July and started up Direct TV. Got the deal where you pay for Sunday ticket and get free programing.

Yesterday I got a letter stating I am signed up for Sunday ticket. Also they were trying to push for me to add SuperFan. The price in the letter was 4 installments of $24.75 so $99 is the price I have in print for those wondering.

I called to say that I was not interested in keeping ST with SF given the prices. The guy pretty much said, I've taken it off and have a nice day. Not a breath of any discounts, just thanks and goodbye.

If my cable or NFL would get NFLN figured out I'd drop the SAT for cable anyways. Too many charges for boxes and all that.

They ALL get you with fees somehow. IMO, make a choice based on the programming and not the cost. For me, the only reason i stay with SAT is for the ST, but its worth the headache and fees since its still cheaper than going out to a bar every Sunday. I'll be calling in August to see what we can do for discounts.

That might be a case where if you had waited until August they might have negotiated. A few years ago, maybe two years ago, I called to cancel before the first bill arrived. "Ok, is there anything else I can do." Last year I "cancelled" in mid August and got $10/mo, free Superfan and HD for 3 or 4 months. I'm cancelling this year though. The national games are good enough for me.

Called yesterday to cancel and got the same response. I guess there's still enough people willing to shell out $300+ for this.

just got an email from DTV say that I got $50 off as a returning customer.

I added it up they are currently going to charge me - 249 for ST and 99 for superfan.

I will call when I get the bill and see if there is anything they can do to reduce this cost more.

Same here. We already cancelled the ticket, and with us losing satalite signal everytime there is a decent storm we are considering dropping DirectTV as a whole. We are looking into that new ATT service (the name escapes me), at least they have the NFL channel.

I also plan to cancel, heck there's 5 or 6 games on network and cable anyway. As I recall, DTV also offers a halfway package after the first month or so for the remainder of the season. To me this is when it really gets interesting anyway. I'll probably sign up for the last month or so if they offer it. Something to think about.

Two Words, gentlemen: Service Interruption :banned:
Ok I called today and said I was thinking about switching from Direct TV to another service that was cheaper. (for me it was AT&T triple play. TV, Phone and Internet. They have a good deal right now if you are in their area. And to be fair I was seriously considering it.) The customer service guy I talked to at DTV switched me over to someone else (customer retention?) when explained I was thinking about switching. I was very polite and said I was going over my finances and while I love DTV with the Ticket I was thinking about making the switch and saving about 40-50 dollars a month. She was very friendly and looked up the deal with AT&T and then offered me some options because they wanted to keep me as a customer and I wanted to stay. I have been a customer for 3 years for whatever it is worth. We settled on a $10 per month discount for 12 months (she started with 6 months but moved it to 12 when I politely asked if she could do anything more there but she would not raise it from $10), free HBO for 3 months and free Showtime for 6 months. She could not do anything about my Sunday Ticket or Superfan because it was not on my bill yet but she suggested that I call back later when it did. She said she could not adjust a 0 bill. She also seemed like she would have been open to upgrading my equipment (place the joke of your choice here.) but I was happy with my Tivo and receivers and I think it probably would have meant a new contract but am not sure. I want to wait until I check later on my Ticket and Superfan before I sign on to a contract. Hope this helps.

dont you need SF to get HD?
yes, but I am not paying $100 to watch games in HD, SF is only the 1 and 4 games, like some said above, more and more games are in primetime/HD. I already pay $10 a month for the HD package.

Just got a letter today from DTV saying my ST was being renewed for $249 (6 payments of $41.50) and FREE Superfan b/c I'm a loyal customer. This is only my 2nd year with them, I didn't know I was so loyal. So, the offer for FREE SF is out there, you just need to be persistent.

Yeah, this is my second year with them and I received a letter today basically saying the same thing but instead of FREE SF, I would be charged 20 some bucks a month for however months. Screw them.Only reason I picked up DTV was because I moved from the eastern half of pa to the western half (Steeler Country) and I am a lifetime Eagles fan.

Got an email today asking me to sign up for $269 + Free Superfan. I never had superfan but have always been intrigued. I live in the local green bay markets and already get all my games in HD. However, I love to watch football and am considering adding.

Free Superfan is a must. What you think?

I had superfan(got it thrown in for free) for the first time last season and really enjoyed it.

So let me get this straight...I have the HD pro package I think.

If I order the ST for $269 I will get all the games but they will not be in HD? In order to get them in HD I have to order the superfan for 99 more? Screw that.

no the national broadcasts will be in HD if you want the extra games in HD you need superfan

We must be twins, I'm exactly the same way.

Received my email yesterday from DirecTV - The email listed the following renewal prices:

Sunday Ticket - $249 (6 payments of $41.50)

Superfan - $99 (6 payments of $16.50)

My situation from DTV’s point of view:

$80-$90 a month bill

Choice Xtra Plus with HD DVR and second receiver with no premium channels

Use automatic withdraw – bill is always paid on time

I have been a customer for over 10 years

I have had Sunday Ticket my entire time with DTV

I decided when this thread first started in May that I was not going to pay the $99 for the Superfan even if it meant dropping ST. I have the same complaint as everyone else - $250 for ST and I pay you $10 a month for HD, I feel like I shouldn't have to pay the extra $99 for ST in HD. Last year DTV gave me a credit to equal the cost of Superfan when I upgraded to HD service and receiver. My goal was to get Superfan comped again. I called DTV yesterday and the call went like this:

1. Calmly and politely explained situation to rep who advised me that they can't do anything for me and he was ready to let me cancel. He gave canned responses explaining DTV charged the $99 because of how much the NFL charged DTV. I politely asked for Manager

2. Calmly and politely explained situation to manager who said there was nothing he could do. He told me that because they comped me for Superfan last year, there was no way they would do it this year. He also told me that waiting until closer to the start of the season would not make a difference. I had him figure the cost for me to cancel early ($169). I calmly and politely asked if I could speak to the customer retention department and was transferred.

3. Explained frustration again to agent in customer retention about wanting ST in HD and not feeling I should have to pay the extra $99. I told her that I had been with them for a long time and I didn't want to leave, but I'm with them for ST and I could save a lot by switching to cable. She placed me on hold for a few minutes and when she came back she gave me a $99 dollar credit to my bill to offset what I would be charged for Superfan.

I really think the key was being calm and polite. The manager that I spoke with actually thanked me for being nice to him and not giving him a hard time about it. The retention agent advised me that there was no way they would comp the $99 charge a third year in a row so I should be ready to pay it next year. Of course, when next year rolls around I will not be under contract with them and I’ll have more leverage. ;)

Got the same letter today - better than having to haggle with those darn Customer Retention folks, I guess.

they offered you free SF? my email said I had to pay $99 for SF. I have only be with DTV for 13 years and got the ST from day one.

The fact that SF is required for HD is one of the dumbest things I've seen from a TV service provider, and it's totally inconsistent with what they provide with the rest of their service.

You already pay a fee for HD, so if you pay that, and you pay for another pay channel, you should get that channel in HD if it's available. If you have the HD package and you pay for HBO, you get HBO HD. You don't have to pay for HBO Superfan to get it in HD.

I'm looking to switch to D* this year specifically for Sunday Ticket. But if they try and charge me for SF I'm just skipping on the whole thing.

Yeah SF is free. This wasn't an email offer, it came through regular mail.I will be saving that letter just in case when the season starts the SF doesn't show up.I agree with others that it doesn't make sense that I have to pay extra to watch games in HD when I am already paying an extra fee for HDOf course DTV tries to say that it's the other stuff (whatever that is) that comes with SF is why there is the additional fee

I called and started off nice. I explained how I paid for the package since it's been out and how I paid for the Super Fan last year while many others it was given too. The guy said he understands but there wasn't anything I could do.

That kind of ticked me off so I went into detail exactly what kind of money I'm spending and as I spoke, even made me even a little hotter. I have the premeir package. I have all the sports stuff, showtime, cinemax, HBO, have 2 boxes with DVR in HIgh Definition. My bill without any football package is about 110 dollar per freaken month.

I explained that and asked the guy point blank if there was anything he could do for me. He said, I'm sorry he can't. I said OK, shut me down. He paused and said you want to cancel your order for Sunday Ticket? I said yes, and my entire cable package. I'm going to get Dish Network.

He paused and a manager got on the phone. I explained to him everything I purchase through DirecTV and told him getting a 99 dollar item is less than what I pay for a month of cable and that's it not even the 99 dollars as it's not going to make or break me, it's about feeling valued as a customer.

He looked into my information, probably saw I haven't been given anything discounted the entire time I've been a customer, not a bill late and promptly gave me the credit.

I'm glad I did it but I'm still not really happy, because it should be free in the first place. I had to jump through hoops to get high definition when I already pay for the high defintion price. I don't agree with it and almost wished I cancelled the entire thing and did go to something like Dish Network for like 50 bucks a month.

I'm a big horse racing guy and I watch TVG on DirecTV but Dish Network has TVG and HRTV in their sports package (it's only 49 dollars coupled with your basic cable, installed free).

I've got the football package now, I'm going to enjoy it this season but with the thought in my mind in evaluating just how much I've watched it. I know a couple times I had family obligations I needed to attend last year, went to a Lions game etc.....to make it worth your money, you need to be watching those games.

called DTV to ask if there was anything they could do about my monthly bill, did not say anything about ST or SF. I got $10 off a month for 12 months and an instant $200 credit to my account. just thought I would pass along. Since they did this for me I will get the SF and pay for it. I have been with DTV since '95 and they are always willing to work to keep a customer happy.
