2008 DTV Sunday ticket and superfan deals (2 Viewers)

Just got a letter today from DTV saying my ST was being renewed for $249 (6 payments of $41.50) and FREE Superfan b/c I'm a loyal customer. This is only my 2nd year with them, I didn't know I was so loyal. So, the offer for FREE SF is out there, you just need to be persistent.
Got the same letter today - better than having to haggle with those darn Customer Retention folks, I guess.
I got the letter yesterday. Sunday Ticket - $249 (6 payments of $41.50) and free Superfan.I never had Superfan before so I am looking forward to it this season
they offered you free SF? my email said I had to pay $99 for SF. I have only be with DTV for 13 years and got the ST from day one.
Yeah, I've been a subscriber for 10 years and wasn't offered free ST, probably because I was willing to pay for it last year. I got the fancy letter tho, with the shinny week 1 ticket and the refrigerator magnet. That's worth the extra isn't it? Anyone else get that? Made me feel special, now I know where all the money they are charging us goes. :lmao:

K, Here's what I got.

- 10 year customer

- 2 years left on my contract. (this is usually important leverage, unfortunately they extended me on some new equipment last year)

$348 - Sunday Ticket & Superfan: (249 +99)

-$50 - Instant Credit to my Bill

-$144 - $12 discount p/mo. for 12 mos.

____

$154 Total for NFL Sunday Ticket + SuperFan
1. Said the wife and I had a baby and only one income ATM. 2. Told him I'd like to cancel the account for a better deal since the only reason I'm with DTV is for the Sunday Ticket (important)

3. He offered $5 for 6 mos., then $5 for 9 mos., $5 for 12 mos., then $10 for 12 mos.

(usually I'd take it to customer retention, but since I'm in the middle of a 2 year deal I'm stuck. Instead I ask to suspend my account for as long as possible.)

4. I then ask for $15 off for 12 mos. and free Superfan. He asks me to wait for a minute, comes back with "Well, Mr #####, Since you have been such a great DirecTV customer I can credit half of your Superfan and offer you $12 for 12 mos.

5. I oblige.

Some of you guys with zero contract obligations will have a field day.

Good Luck

called DTV to ask if there was anything they could do about my monthly bill, did not say anything about ST or SF. I got $10 off a month for 12 months and an instant $200 credit to my account. just thought I would pass along. Since they did this for me I will get the SF and pay for it. I have been with DTV since '95 and they are always willing to work to keep a customer happy.
:goodposting: Good move here. Don't even mention the Sunday Ticket. Just threaten to change service providers and see what discounts they give you.

I've had the Sunday Ticket w/o HD and SF now for six years. Each year they have given me at least a $100.00 credit. Last year was the best when they offered me the Sunday Ticket for $119.00. It's been my experience that it's been pretty easy convincing them too. I definitely think they are getting tougher on giving people discounts. They key is to wait until you get charged and then ask politely tell them you A)don't want the Sunday Ticket (which is what I've done since I've had it) or B) threaten to change services. Don't waste your time with the Customer Service Reps, you need to be in the Customer Retention department. I may need to be a little bit less friendly this year with them, but I feel pretty good about getting at least $100.00 off the price this year. I will be a satisfied customer when that happens!

Good stuff here.

I'm about to make my annual call.

I'm a long term DT customer and I buy both the ST, SF and MLB package. The only reason I keep DTV is because of the ST and the fact that they carry SNY so I can watch the NY Mets, while Cox Cable in the Hartford CT area does not carry SNY.

I got the standard letter ($249 for ST and $99 for SF). They have cut deals for me in the past.

Does anyone have a direct phone number for the Customer Retention Dept?

Calling the genereal number is tortorous process --- automated phone robot hell, then finally get transferred around the horn (may occassionally get disconnected and have to repeat process), can take a full 30 minutes sometimes to get a competent, empowered person on the phone.

I got the standard letter ($249 + $99). But I called them today and told them I got this other letter (free Superfan). She told me I'd be automatically credited for free Superfan and that she would put a note in my account about it. This way, next month when I am charged for Superfan, I can call in and complain and say I should've gotten free SF. :goodposting:

I have been looking into this for years and was ready to pull the trigger this year on the ST. Of course, my Jets season tickets come through this year, meaning that for 8 Sundays I will be out of the house, making it an easy call. Much rather spend all that money on my tailgating necessities.

Good Luck :whoosh:
this is the correct route and you did good, I always have gone with the wife wanting to get rid of it for some reason or another...even if you are under contract, (which I always am it seems) last year it was 11 bucks per month for the length of your contract if you cancel. An easy counter if they say well your under contract for 12 more months is "well even at 11 bucks a months thats about what I pay for one month".

And if you get a guy that won't budge you just say ok I am going to talk to my wife before I cancel and then you call back and get a different person. Some people are nice some are not, I have done this for 3+ years now and only got what I wanted on the first call once....

seriously? you didnt even have to make up an excuse or threaten them? Who did you talk to? I want to get them....

i just said I was looking to cut back on monthly bills and comcast was cheaper, asked what can you do for a long time customer.

I got a guy named Patrick just now and I asked for free Superfan, and he said he would check, then came back and said that was no big deal and gave it to me. It was real easy.

conversation

Hi I saw that I was charged for nfl ticket on my last bill, I wanted to make sure that I got Superfan for free again this year before I continue to pay for this."

he said hold one minute and came back and said yes.

last year I also got the $10 off a month, however I switched to basic cable which only cost about $25 a month so there is not much to deal on. on the lighter side, I still get the NFL network since I have the nfl package. so I jsut watch that all the time now.

anyways there is my two cents

I just called Direct-Tv sports and told them about the email I received and he went ahead and added it no problem, the funny thing is that I never received an email from them I just used this link instead

http://customerinfo.directv.com/directv/?U...RzJuyJE4BEpvy5U
Thanks, worked for me too
I went straight to the "I've been a longtime DTV and ST subscriber (6-7 years I think on ST), and you are giving the new guys free SF when they sign up. I'd like you to give me the same deal." I had to get through the first customer service person to a second to get the deal. The link was very helpful. No confrontation necessary.good luck.

ps... they also have a deal on the sports pack right now - $2 per month for 6 months.

I got it for free, but it was harder than it should have been...they told me they didnt see anything online about free SuperFan and couldnt do it, I asked to talk to a manager, Ive been a long time customer so I got it for free but the link didnt help me none...

gluck to the rest of you...

Very frustrating call. with DTV.

1st guy was in the process of changing my account to get "free SF" when I became disconnected.

Called back, women assured me that there NO discounts on SF. Transferred me to Customer Retention, he ultimately provided me with ~ $99 worth of discounts on my base package (spread over 6 months) to get the same result, however he swore to me that NOONE other than new customers were getting SF charges themselves waived. I told him specifically that I knew people who were not new customers and had called and gotten SF fees waived (many posters to this thread have gotten that result) and that these customers in many cases had been customers for less time than me -- he swore to me that again that they were not allowed to waive SF charges. I had already invested 30 minutes in this process and was in no mood to argue this point, so I declared victory and withdrew.

on hold, this chick is an idiot
bastards would only give me 1 ST payment off (41.50) or free super fan. and free super fan isnt really a deal because its part of a promotion anyways. They pretty much told me I have gotten to many credits and free stuff over the last 2 years. I didn't have the canceling leverage I had the past 3 seasons to work with (they upped the fee for 11 bucks a month to 20 now if you cancel early), oh well I got for for pretty much nothing the last two years...

thats funny because the retention guy I talked to was "oh yea you got the SF for free by renewing its part of a promotion, but then I can't give you the 41.50 discount the other lady promised". so maybe it is just suppsoed to be for new customers...they keep track of how/when/what you say when you call in alot better than in years past, they are catching on...

I too used the link... but wasn't automatically signed to the SF... called them up, they claimed it would be added closer to the season... also they claimed to note it in my record.... I have little confidence this will work.

yea the retention guy actually added it to mine, unless he was just sitting there surfing this thread for 5 mins and he just told me he did.

Yeah, it says right on there "SuperFan will automatically be added to your account. You do not need to add SuperFan to your order." It's not showing up online for me either, but I saved that ad and will be calling them if I don't have SuperFan on week 1.

going by the comments in this thread, I think that ad is for people who never had the ST before. if you look below it says 5 payments of $53.80 (269). I am paying 6 payments of $41.50 (249) because I had ST last year. I would call if you had ST last year....

I had it last year, but declined the renewal a few weeks ago. Guess I'm out $20 on that, but getting the SF for free sounds much more possible now than it did last month. I just didn't want to pay $300+

ST-$249 :kicksrock:

$10 of monthly bill for 12 months :lmao:

$200 instant credit to my account :lmao:

cool, some reassurance here.... I don't care about all the silly additional things, just want the HD Games...
The Red Zone Channel is pretty cool. I lugged an extra TV into the room last year and just left it on that channel.
True, I love the Red Zone channel, its the ####, I watch it when the Vikings arent playing, since all I care about is my fantasy team at that point and seeing who scores...

i just signed up today for direct (canceled dish) and got the ticket for 53$ over 5 months . 29.99 for choice for 12 months, and dvr for 5.99 month . also mentioned friend who refered me and we each get 50$ off ( 10$ off 5 bills each ) .

so whats the superfan ? what i read its split 6 games on tv and pc all games right ? is this free ? actually i dont think i would use it though if thats what it is . my plan is to watch game of choice @ 1pm, dvr 2nd choice game . watch 1st choice 4pm game and dvr 2nd choice .

The redzone channel and you also get all the 1pm and 4pm games broken down into a 30 min game with only the plays from snap to tackle (these are ready by 2am Monday morning) and that is something I love about the SuperFan.

getting the games on your computer is pretty cool too, I would have games on the pc by the tv or you can run a laptop and have it right next to you. Or if your feeling nice you give your password to a buddy and let him use it, did that alot of weeks....

first time I was ever offered an instant credit. usually it is $10 or $20 off per month for x amount of months

Here is my story. I called them just now after receiving the letter yesterday (269 + 99 cost). I said I wanted to verify my bill for the Ticket and Superfan. The woman told me I was renewed for both. I didn't tell here about the letter but used the email ploy. She said I was to be billed for 6 x 41 for the Ticket and that the SF was free. I'm not sure if that was how it was set up when I called or if she changed it when I mentioned the email with free SF. Anyhow I got her name and wrote down the pertanent data (name/date/time) in case of any problems. So suppossedly $249 total. Hope that helps....

Edit to add: BTW, I'm a roughly 8 year DTV customer with about 5 years with the ticket and 2 years of SF, all at full price, so maybe that helped me....

Just closed this deal. Thanks to mt-wabo. No questions asked, just did it.Red Zone channel is a gift from the baby Jeebus.
Did the same thing..........$240 total for everything. Not a great deal but yet I am happy. It now feels like football season is that much closer.

How much more would it cost if I need to ge the dish and hd receiver? I have no equipment, and I would be a first time signup.

i would call DTV and ask for first time customer deals. they always have something. they also rent equipment like cable. I own 3 HD DVRs(got them free) and rent another. It does not matter if you own or rent them, they still charge you $5 per month for any box after the first one

Last year I was a new subscriber to DTV and they had a promotion where I got EVERY channel(their best package) for free for 4 months if I signed up for Sunday Ticket for like $75 a month for 4 months...that package I believe was like a $99 monthly value, so I saved a few bucks and got free ST basically...I heard they were doing it again this year but I dont know...Id call, I know they give stuff away practically to new customers...all that included a free HD or DVR reciever and up to 4 recievers total all with free installation...

I had DTV, cancelled in 2004, started up again in 2007 (March) and got a free HD receiver plus Free DVR HD receiver. I just called to see when my expiration date is and both a CSR and Customer Retention told me my date expired in 2004 so I can cancel anytime no at no cost. Somehow their awesome systems f'd up yet again so keep this in mind when trying to work your way through their web of a mess.

That being said, I got the 249 plus free superfan. I didnt ask for discounts bc i dont want a new contract but I referenced the above email "Link".
