2008 DTV Sunday ticket and superfan deals (1 Viewer)

Whats my play here...any and every suggestion is appreciated:

Been with DTV for about 4 years, ST for only 1 (last year). Still under contract since last year we added the DVR package and it reset our contract. Suspended our account this past March by saying that we were having some financial issues (we were). We;re ok now and I want ST, SF, and the HD-DVR package in two rooms.

I'm thinking that i call up and say that i'm newly married and that the wife wants me to get rid of DTV altogether. Follow that up with "but i want the ST, SF and HD DVR package. Anything you can do to help me out here?".

Too simple? or am i on the right path here? I actually would consider canceling and eating the contract term fee if they dont offer anything. So i figure i have that leverage as a last resort. Never made this all before to DTV and i usually dont have the patience to "play the game". So, help is appreciated

I said that is going to do anything for me, can you do anything she will actually notice?Then she said she could knock one payment off the ticket as a one time deal ($41.50) or give me the super fan for free. Told her I should get both, since SF is a ripoff and shouold be free anyways, she wouldn't budge, I asked to be transfered to customer retention (this is ket alot of time). Went there and they wouldn't budge either, said I have gotten plenty of deals over the last 2 years. I conceded and took the free super fan....You can always say ok go ahead and cancel my whole service then if you can't do anything, then see if they bite, if they don't, just say hold up I better double check this with the wife before I do this.I have 2&3 yo boys, you will still watch the ticket....HTH you and buddyknuckles, like last year I got ST&SF for like 60 bucks when it was said and done and for pretty much nothing the year before going this route...

a small thing , but if you "go green" (dont get paper mail statements but do all internet ) new customers get $20 off and existing customers $5 .

also i did not see on the online sign-ups, but if you are a new customer and order by phone (actual person) if you mention a friend that has direct (have name and phone# handy) helped convince you to get direct, your friend and you each get a 50$ credit . ours is 10$ over next 5 bills .

The Red Zone Channel is pretty cool. I lugged an extra TV into the room last year and just left it on that channel.

True, I love the Red Zone channel, its the ####, I watch it when the Vikings arent playing, since all I care about is my fantasy team at that point and seeing who scores...

getting the games on your computer is pretty cool too, I would have games on the pc by the tv or you can run a laptop and have it right next to you. Or if your feeling nice you give your password to a buddy and let him use it, did that alot of weeks....

Yesterday, I called and the rep said the same exact thing, said she noted the email and the email was valid, she noted my account and said I would get it for free. But wait.....

I then said i wanted to lower my bill, she said she couldn't help but transferred me to another department. Once speaking to the other department, I told her I wanted to CHECK and make sure my account was just noted about the superfan....... She said, there are lots of notes from today but NOTHING about Superfan......... Then I told her and she took care of it and did it on the spot, charged me the 99 and gave me a 99 credit = free. I would call back and ask them if that is actually noted in you account.

Not in the least, its broadcast in 2009 only in HD. IE your local channels via the antenna. Cable and Sat. are not affected. hence the govt coupons for the set top boxes to make analog TV's work with HD signals. Its free TV only thats an issue.

Not in the least, its broadcast in 2009 only in HD. IE your local channels via the antenna. Cable and Sat. are not affected. hence the govt coupons for the set top boxes to make analog TV's work with HD signals. Its free TV only thats an issue.

No, it's all going digital, not HD. Digital ≠ HD

Thanks...will probably give it a shot later today. As a nice coincidence, today in the mail i got a special offer for Comcast Triple play. No way i switch to Crapcast, but i will be sure to mention the offer in my call later

I was offered $5 off for 3 months and free Superfan. I am a 7 year customer who has always gotten the ST and HBO and not much else above the basic HD package. I got the "you were given a discount last year" line as well. I am going to take the offer but my agreement will be up next year so I am assuming I will have a better shot at a more reasonable discount next year.

does anyone else picture the DTV call center as a big room with a couple of "carnival wheels" in the center? Each time they put you on hold, they walk over to the wheels, spin it, and see what kind of offer they'll make.

Just amazing to me that a major corp would be so willing to haggle with its customers.

They really didn't offer much to new customers. I called today out of curiosity, and they offered $74.99/month for 4 months, that includes the premium. Plus you have to commit to paying a package for an additional 20 months, the minimum is $29.99/month. I said I was referred, and that would get me and someone else $50 dollars off, each. I also said I heard of an instant rebate for $50 bucks, they said they might be able to do that.Actually, I am going to use this as leverage for my Optimum Online service, as I am not in a contract with them. So I may tell Optimum, "Throw me a bone or I am switching to DirectTV." At which point I may switch to DTV.

A lot of the HDTVs have PC inputs so if said "buddy" has a good gaming machine or machine with high end graphics card feeding his HD LCD, he would get any games and split the ticket.

its a pretty cool set up. you just log onto the direct tv portion of there site for it. and you can go full screen or have it in the middle and they have all the games/scores/stats around it and you can just click game to game. The quality of picture isnt as good as regular broadcast, but it was good enough to do what your talking about. I let my work buddy use it for pretty much half the year and he bought me a few lunches here and there for it just to give back a little....I have no clue if you could log in on more than one computer, didn't try that.

Tis true. If you watch it on the PC monitor it is as easy as logging on and picking a game. Really good if you are out of town and still want to watch that game. To get it put on your plasma TV you need a video card that is TV ready or better yet HDMI (like mine). The bad thing about it is you can only watch one game at a time and switching between games is like loading another website, depending on connection speed/PC/etc/and even DTV, it's not as smooth as just switching channels.But yeah, give out your name and password to a bunch of people. Just hope they don't order the MLB package for you.

That's probably because he's too far from Tampa. Local channels are spot beamed to certain areas. His dish probably shows 0s for the transponders that you're receiving locals in Tampa on.

That's probably because he's too far from Tampa. Local channels are spot beamed to certain areas. His dish probably shows 0s for the transponders that you're receiving locals in Tampa on.

I dont know, he wanted to watch Sun Sports to see the Lightning hockey games also...all I know is he tried it and said it didnt work...so who knows...?

Has to be the whole box. The card is programmed for the box it's in.You could take it anywhere and it will work. Doesn't matter if it's across the street or across the country.

Has to be the whole box. The card is programmed for the box it's in.You could take it anywhere and it will work. Doesn't matter if it's across the street or across the country.

So me and my friend should have switched boxes instead of cards...

I don't think that's entirely accurate. Some channels are spot beamed and simply can't be received on the other side of the country. Maybe that's not the case for your locals, but it is for others. Regional sports networks are an exception because they are used for the sports packages.

Not true. I know 100% that last year I was able to sign onto Supercast on my computer at the same time my brother was signed into Supercast using my account info at his computer.

Not true. I know 100% that last year I was able to sign onto Supercast on my computer at the same time my brother was signed into Supercast using my account info at his computer.

Then you found a loophole somehow. Doesn't work for me and DirecTV's FAQ says "You can watch SUPERCAST from any computer you want but you can only watch it from one computer at a time."

wont work, I got a friend who moved to Atlanta, I live in Tampa, he is a Bucs fan and wanted all the local channels and stuff...he came to visit and we tried that, he took home one of my cards from the kids room, tried it and it didnt work...sent it back in the mail...

That's probably because he's too far from Tampa. Local channels are spot beamed to certain areas. His dish probably shows 0s for the transponders that you're receiving locals in Tampa on.

I dont know, he wanted to watch Sun Sports to see the Lightning hockey games also...all I know is he tried it and said it didnt work...so who knows...?

now that I think about it my buddy has a dish on top on his ice house and he always brought a receiver from home out there (about 50 miles from home) and it worked great, that was 2 winters ago anyways.

the phone line with DTV is BS. I have never had a phone line hooked up in 13 years. you just can not order PPV with the remote. If I do order PPV, very little, I order it online. I have a buddy who owns a bar. I gave him one of my boxes a few years ago so he could show a sporting event(can not remember what it was) that he did not get on his box. when I use to go to the FSU football games. I would take one of my boxes to the game and hook it up a dish I had on a tripod so I could watch other football games while I tailgated. it should work.

if he installs a dish and runs lines it should work as long as he is getting a signal. do not see how this would be any different that when I take my box to a football game

I don't think that's entirely accurate. Some channels are spot beamed and simply can't be received on the other side of the country. Maybe that's not the case for your locals, but it is for others. Regional sports networks are an exception because they are used for the sports packages.

Okay, I can't guarantee all channels will work across the country as I haven't done it outside the state I live in.

Yep, a box will work with any dish. The only sticking point is trying to receive locals too far away (like over 200 miles) from the intended broadcast area.

1) I have Cox digital cable at my house, and I'm happy with it. I want to get DTV only for the Sunday Ticket. Will they let me get just the ticket, or will they also require me to subscribe to a basic programming package?

2) Will there be a penalty if I discontinue my service in January after the season?

This is how you save money. Get a group of buddy's like lets say three of them. One of you get a DTV account. The buddy with the account get the 4 room package and maybe add a couple of boxes to the 4 to make 6. And then you put 2 boxes in each of the three buddy's houses. Then you just split the bill. The only thing your out is you will have to purchase a couple of dish's off of ebay to start. Then your set just split the bill three ways for the year. I know someone who has been doing this for about 6 or 7 years. ME It's cuts your monthly bill down a lot ST and SF cost you a third. Now that is some good savings and you don't have to call year after year to save 50 bucks your saving a whole lot more.

Exactly, and the crazy thing is DTV leaves all those dishes lying around, the only thing they seem to safeguard are the receivers. When I moved out of my last rented house the landlord wanted the HD dish removed. DTV had zero interest, but, the neighbors across the street were standing there ready to grab it. Know I know why.

Well, I just got off the phone, and all I could get is $10 off for 12 months. They wouldn't give me Superfan for free. Not yet anyway. I've gotten it for free for each of the past five to seven years. So I'm not sure why this year is different, but she kept referencing the fact that they're not giving any NFL deals since the season hasn't started yet. And this was the customer retention department.

She said that link offering free Superfan is only giving the free HD programming part of Superfan. She said it's not giving the Red Zone and Shortcuts and other options that I want. She wouldn't budge.

I took the $120 for now and I guess will call back in September to see if I can get Superfan for free.
