2008 DTV Sunday ticket and superfan deals (1 Viewer)

I'm on the phone with them right now. They immediately offered free Superfan and a $10 credit for 6 months. I said that's just not enough to justify it right now (the truth). I'm on hold ostensibly while they cancel it, but I wonder if I'm going to get offered a better deal (I would take it if they sweetened it enough)...

Nope it's canceled.

Just for a frame of reference, I've been a DTV and Sunday Ticket Subcriber since 1999. I've used the free mover's connection twice in that span, and they gave me a "free" HD receiver once for being a good customer. I subscribe what used to be Total Choice Plus + HD + Sunday Ticket (until today). No movie channels. I don't think I've ever been late on a bill.

I assume that the people reporting really sweet deals here have more expensive subscriptions and/or paid gotten less 'credits' over the years.

Well I can't complain. I don't have a base package, just ST and the HD package ($9.99 a month) So i'm getting ST for $249 and free SF this year, along with a $10 credit for 12 months. Not bad.

I really believe it depends on who you get when you call them. This has to be the deal that ends all deals..........

NFL Sunday Ticket $249 (6 installment payments of $41.50) $20 savings

Superfan FREE $99 savings

Receiver upgrade HR 21 $126 includes tax (reg. $200) $74 savings

Dish upgrade 5 LNB FREE

HD access for 1 year FREE (reg. $10/month) $120 savings

HBO 3 months FREE (reg. $14/month) $42 savings

Showtime 6 months FREE (reg. $12/month) $72 savings

Cinemax 3 months FREE (reg. $12/month) $36 savings

Starz 6 months FREE (reg. $12/month) $72 savings

TOTAL SAVINGS $535

I was going to quit once I received the free Superfan and the 1/2 off deal for the HR 21, but the guy was like "maybe I can do a few more things for you".....I was like OK....why?....and he says, "its not often that I actually talk to a nice person who treats me well" He proceeds to give me all the other freebies!!!!!!! WOOOO HOOOOOO

This guy wasn't even a customer retention....he was customer service!

If you aren't happy with your deal, hang up and call back later to try for a better offer.

P.S. My regular package is the standard Total Choice, so it wasn't like I am one of their ritzy customers.

Thsi was year 2 of calling in to say that I was thinking of cancelling Sunday Ticket because of the price. Last year they gave me $10 off a month for 12 months.

I called in today and said I was going to cancel because I couldn't justify paying that price for Sunday Ticket. I explained that I have been a loyal subscriber for over 10 years and have had Sunday Ticket the whole time. I also added that when I started, I think I paid $60 for the ticket.

She immediately offered me the Superfan ($99 value) for free. I said that's nice and all but I was really looking to lower my bill not add services. She then said she could give me $5 off for 6 months. I asked her if that was the best she could do and then she said $10 off for 6 months. I took it and ran. I really didn't want to lose the ticket and $190 is much better than $250. I didn't really care about the Superfan because I don't have HD. :lmao:

I was able to finagle DTV + ST + SF + Verizon Internet + Verizon Phone = $165/month. Really sweet deal. It was 25 bucks cheaper than my Optimum deal. So I called Optimum, was nice and cordial, and they reduced my bill to $160. I called DTV back but they would not throw in a second HD DVR, so that was the deal breaker, I stuck with my current setup. I will just ask my brother for his login information for his DTV and hook it up to my big screen. I also didn't want to downgrade from cable internet to DSL, I hated it last time I had it.

I know this is a DTV thread, but some people might find it useful if they know they can parlay it into better deals with their current provider. I figured that I won't even be there for 8 Sundays due to season tickets anyway, so I will try my luck with the computer this year.

One more thing, anyone use the computer to view games last year? How did it work? A lot of buffering or was it relatively smooth?

Just called and said "cancel service" at the electronic prompts, and when I got the CS Rep, I said that the Mrs. was on my case to switch to Comcast, but I wanted to call and see if there was anything we could do to prevent that from happening.

He said "OK, let me see what I can do", and then we had some silence.

After awhile he comes back and offers

*$10/mo off for 12 mos

* all of their movie channels free for 6 mos

I took the offer, and when he finished processing it, I asked about ST and SFan. I had a letter with the offer of 6 payments of 41.50 ($249), so I asked if I could get that and the free SFan. I mentioned that I had seen a promo for free SFan and he said that if I had received that promo, then I would automatically get the SF for free (It would show up as $0), but that he could not process it for free, since the free SFan was computer generated. I then said that I hadn't received the promo, but had seen it online, and he said that there wasn't anything he could do for free SFan, and that I should wait and see if it shows up as a $0, and if not, I could call back in August.

So, as it is right now,

$249 for STicket

$120 off over 1 year

Free movie channels for 6 mos

No superfan

Looks like I'll have to call back in August to see what I can do for Superfan.

Gettin' ready for football! :goodposting:
Called back today and in addition to the above:HBO Free for 6 mos (which I thought was included above - we already subscribed to it for $14/mo) = $84 savings

Superfan for free = $99 savings

Free upgrade to new NON-HD DVR (R22) that can supposedly still get Direct TV "On Demand"

Free upgrade to new NON-HD DVR (R22) for my other TV that didn't have a DVR

$19.95 "Shipping & Handling" for the the receivers

$24.95 each for 2 powerline adaptors to use the "On Demand" service

So, before these two calls, I was paying X for my package, plus $14/mo for HBO

After, I am paying

X - $10/12 mos = $120 savings

$249 Sunday Ticket = $249 cost

HBO Free for 6 mos = $84 savings

Free Showtime, Cinemax, Starz for 6 mos = this is just a bonus, since I wouldn't have it if not free (but a nice perk)

SuperFan = Free

2 DVR Upgrades = $19.95

So that all breaks down to Sunday Ticket, Superfan, 2 DVR upgrades for $65, plus the free movie channels for 6 mos.

It's almost worth it for the $1000/year I pay them to get my TV programming!

Edit: if I want to use the "on demand" service, I'll need to get 2 adaptors for $25 each.

Best I could do was free SuperFan and the $10 HD package for free for a year. $220 for one call - not bad. I have all the receivers I need, have HD, and the Premium package. So the only way I could get more was to drop the Premium package and they would have given me 2 for 1 premium channels for like 3 months. Not worth playing the game. But at least I feel better about my football investment this year. Now, if only I could show restraint in free agent bidding wars....

im a new customer (2months) and here's what they offered me ...

A $69 credit off the Ticket, so ill end up paying $200

Free Superfan .... didn't even ask for it!!

$18 credit for 12 months for a "new customer rebate" I qualified for.

so i end up getting everything and making $16 on the deal!

that whole thing about going through customer retention is so true. i tried calling the day before and going through the regular customer service and all they offered was $25 off ...which isn't too bad considering im a new customer.

Just called and got

• Free Superfan,

• $10 credit for 6 months

• Free Showtime for six months (just in time for season 3 of Dexter to start. W00t)

It seems that the deals they offer are usually contingent on a couple things -- Whatever loyalty tier they put you in (how long you've been a member / how much you spend each month) and How long it's been since you got your last batch of incentives/rebates. I usually only call once a year, at this time.

i just called in and told them I was extremely dissapointed that I was not getting the same offerd as new customers and I was a loyal customer and I was cancelling due to this.

I got:

the sunday ticket and the premium package for 75 a month for 4 months then I can cancel and go back to my regular package.

My regular price is like almost 75 so this is an insane deal.

you dont have to. as a new cusotmer you can get the sunday ticket and all channels for 75 a month. AWESOME deal. great service. I love direct tv

yeah fine and well, but to my understanding (we are thinking about doing it) this does not include HD DVR usage, or more than one TV which, unless you are a bachelor or college student, you need, so now bump that up another $15+ - now I'm at $90 a month....is this right?

don't forget about another 10 bucks in taxes/fees, and another 10 for the hd channels and you are about there, and they will probably try and make you pay for some equipment also. Back to the original offer, 75 bucks for every channel for 4 months and the sunday ticket is a good deal (assuming you want the ticket). I signed up 4 years ago with that same deal and it was 65 bucks so they havn't changed that much, they want to get you on that 2 year contract...

Calling now to see what deal I can get.

UPDATE: I went with the I'm considering getting Sunday ticket, I had it for several years but dropped it last year due to cost (I did drop it last year but for other reasons), told them I was disappointed new customers were getting all these offers and I wasn't. They offered me $10 a month off for 6 months, I said no that really doesn't help me can you do anymore. He said no and didn't seem interested in checking so I said well I guess you lost a sale and hung up. I'll try again this evening and see what a different rep offers.

What the hell do ya say when you call? Ask for deals or threaten to cancel?
Just tell them you're disappointed with the price increase and that you're seriously considering not renewing.....and you're wondering if they have any incentives available to help change your mind.

DTV update.

I posted ~ 1 month ago that I made my annual call to DTV to get the Super Fan charges waived given my long time customer status. It was a more difficult conversation this year (although I did have the first rep "working on doing it" when I got disconnected and had to start over again after 20 minutes -ugh!). I finally got a Customer Retention Manager to offer my other credits that offset the $99 Super Fan cost ($10 a month for 6 months and free local channels for 6 months ($6 per month value), so I accepted a total of $96 of credits spread over 6 months.

Fast forward 1 month and I get my next bill. No surprise that it was not correct. I was given the $10 a month credit (which stated that it would last for 6 months), but not the $6 credit back for local channel fees. I pondered whether it was worth the investment of a phone call ($36 of credits for who knows hom much time, pain, agony and getting disconnected). Still, on principle I called back. I explained my story to the rep who answered the phone. She then put me on hold for ~ 15 minutes (I considered hanging up a few times, but endured) and told me that she had straightened everything out -- I would be getting the $6 per month local channels credit back and would also get the full $99 credit back for the cost of Super Fan -- Time to declare "victory and withdraw". They even sent me an email confirm with these new credits -- Bank error in my favor.

You need a LAN line to get Sunday Ticket, but not DTV.

I will sign up with Direct TV as a new customer(just moved)....should I get all my equipment FREE?

What else should I know before I call them?

My equipment was free 4 years ago. I think due to the two year contract the equipment is always free.Make sure that you get the new customer deal for the Sunday Ticket. Also, if you know someone with Directv or use someone in this forum, you get $50 off and they get $50 off.

You do NOT need a phone line for Sunday Ticket. I have been using DirecTV to get Sunday Ticket for 6+ years with a lot of different receivers and I have never once used a land line. The only limitation of not using a regular phone line is that you have to order PPV movies, etc via the web instead of through the receiver.

I started last year's Sunday Ticket thread and thought it was finally time to make the call this year myself. The first guy offered me $5 off my bill for 6 months. I said "no thanks", hung up, and called again. The next lady offered me $10 off the Ticket for 6 months. I asked her if she could give me the HD service free for a year and she said she could do one or the other, but not both. So I went with the free HD service ($9.99 for 12 months).

I got SF free last year and could not talk her into giving it to me free again this year. Couldn't even get a discount. Has anyone been able to do that? I'm going to wait a week and try again on the SF, but if I don't get some kind of deal I'm going to cancel it. It's ok, but it's sure not worth $99.

see my post above about the new subscriber deal for details (didn't look up the post #, but it was on Friday IIRC). I just switched (from Dish).one more update. they installed last Friday, but messed up the order and forgot the 2nd room DVR. I called on Saturday, and the regular CSR wanted to charge me $100 (deposit?) for the DVR and a $20 shipping charge. Now it's $39 (1st month - paperless billing $20 credit included) and now $59 / mo for the next 5 months. Then $109/mo for the premier package (all channels including all movies - NO HD). But, you can call back after the first 4 month promo period and switch your programming package to a cheaper option @ no charge. They're just hoping you forget and keep paying the $115 or so.I told them it wasn't going to work that way (paying the $100 for the 2nd DVR) and asked to be xfered to the cancel service rep. She comp'd the 2nd DVR and threw in ANOTHER $10 off for 6 mos. to make up for the required shipping charge (so saved another $40).RE: equipment charges - it depends on your credit IMO - during the new service setup call they require your SSN and address to check your credit. Mine was good for all around free gear.

you do not have to have a phone line for DTV or Sunday ticket. the phone line thing with DTV is BS. I have been with DTV for 13 years, ST for 10, and never had a phone line hooked up.

calling these peeps tomorrow. GOODBUY wow cable

This is to give hope to everyone in the Shark Pool about ST deals (I am a long time lurker, rare poster, but this story just has to be told).

I am a 10+ year DirecTV customer with ST all years. I actually cancelled ST earlier this year (price too high, soccer games with the kids on Sunday, etc.), and called back today to "see what we could do", said I might switch providers (not on a contract anymore), etc. I don't have HD, but we have 3 SD DVRs, they work great, we are addicted to DVR service, and I don't trust the DirecTV HD DVRs.

Long story short, after 4 calls this morning, I hit the jackpot (I went through customer retention each time). I am now getting the Premier Package (all channels) + ST + SF for $74.99 / month for the next 4 months. After that, I can switch back to our regular package. This is the best part - NO NEW CONTRACT (since I didn't get any new equipment)! I am very excited, since I will be getting all of the sports channels, movies, etc. + ST + SF for only $20 more per month for 4 months ($80 total) than I was already paying (plus NO NEW CONTRACT!). I have received a fair amount of credits from them in the past, discounts, etc., and after reading this thread, I was not very hopeful for this year. But alas, it is time for football again!

Plus, with no new commitment, I'll have to call them back again next year!

Good luck to everyone else.

how much is this premium package after 4 months? can i change it to something lower after the season is over?
I think it is over $100 / month, but you can change to any package you want after the 4 months is over. I think this offer is designed for new customers who are receiving new equipment, but I think they must have treated me like a new customer since I am not under contract (even though I am not receiving any new equipment).

I called and got Free SF (3rd year in a row I got it free), Free HD ($9.99) for 6 months, and $5 off for 3 months.

I really wish you could just get the red zone channel, as thats pretty much all I watch anyway, but oh well. After the discounts, I pay about $175 for Sunday Ticket and Superfan.

I will sign up with Direct TV as a new customer(just moved)....should I get all my equipment FREE?What else should I know before I call them?
I would definitely haggle to get the equipment free or at least rebated back to you.after you sign up with them a few days later (before they install) call back and say the wife is having second thoughts because of price, anything you can do to make her happy? They will give you 10 bucks off for 6 months guaranteed.

I heard they freeze up a lot, quality / technical issues, that's all...

This is the deal I got last year to offset the ST charges. I ended up keeping the premium package for the entire year after the four months was up, and was paying about 136.00 per month. All movie channels, and a ton of Fox Sports channels. Was a nice bargaining chip in getting the ST and SF for $9.00 this year.

They had issues when they were first rolled out but I have 2 HR21's and no more issues than when I had DTV's Tivo (old skool) or Hughes HDTivo (10-250). Why are you getting SF if you don't have HD?

It's free, but more importantly, the Red Zone channel and Game Mix channels - great to have on in the background!

I have gone without for years now an like it better - I already get as much as 8 games in a week for free - at least 5 ( 4 sunday and 1 monday ). Much better ways to spend 290 than that.

If you live in your favorite teams area and can see all the games on local TV, maybe yes...but living out of state from your favorite team, NO, there is no better way to spend $290 than on Sunday Ticket...

didn't put up a huge stink, threatened to cancel only the ST, and they gave me SuperFan for free...... (which is all I was really looking for anyway), just threaten to cancel, they'll work with you if you're a good customer

Very easy and I'm very pleased with the level of service I received from Directv today. That is one of my biggest complaints with DTV, the level of inconsistency found in their phone reps and their lack of accountability. They never allow you to follow up with the same rep and their call centers are spread throughout the country.

Anyways back to the topic at hand. After explaining that I was considering a switch to Dish due to a number of factors considering the rising cost of my DTV bill, I was offered:

$10 credit for year

Free HD service for year

$10 off sports pack for 3 months

Free Showtime for 6 months

Free Superfan

Very easy and I would suggest it's definitely worth a phone call to see what offers they have for you. What you get will depend on the quality of the person picking up the phone and your purchase history with DTV.

I called Directv tonight. They called my bluff and I cancelled the ticket and the superfan. They said they couldn't give it to me for free 2 years in a row, even though its been longer than that. I have never paid for it. They offered $60 credit but I said forget it you can stick it.

I said you are double dipping....You are charging me for the NFL Ticket and for HD Channels already and that getting the SuperFan on top of it was double dipping. If you could give me just the SuperFan I would take it, but you can't so cancel them both. I am a snob and I won't watch any games on Digital when there are HD Games on for Free.

I figured I would wait a few weeks and see if they call or send me an offer to get me back, but I may still pass on it. I realized that I can watch all the Eagles games in HD and the games of the week, in HD and the Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday night games for free in HD.

Well it took me three weeks with three different calls to finally feel satisfied. Man they are working us this year. The past two years it was one call and done. I was able to get $60 off the Ticket in my call a few weeks ago and they told me they couldn't help on the SF but call after 8/1 and see if there are any specials. I did that yesterday and they wouldn't budge so I told them I wanted the nucler option - cancel the Ticket and SF. They transfer you then to someone with a little more credit authority who told me she could comp the SF for me. I said that was all I was asking for because if I can't watch the games in HD, I don't want the package. All in all, I am happy but I earned my credits this year and hope it is a little easier next season. Good luck guys - good and helpful thread.

On the phone with "Edna" right now.

Gave her the "one income now, wife not working, we pay $95/month before NFL ticket, wife wants Dish, what can you do for me" talk....

This is what she can do:

$10 off our base pkg for 12 months

$110 instant credit

$10 off our HD for 6 months

$290

Can't do any SuperFan right now. I will call back next week for that.

Just got off the phone with Direct TV, and the $10 off for a year seems to be the route to go. They have had no problems doing this for me the past 5 years now. Please be careful though folks. Last year I saw on my statements that they only gave me the $10 credit for four months and not 12. Make sure you are checking your statements for that $10 credit. Overall they have great customer service IMO. Good luck to all.

Year credit of $9.99 a for 12 months= (HD)=$119.882 credits of $43.20=$86.40 Total Credit=$206.28movie channels in the 500's for 3 months freeIndeed a bit harder this year!

When you add in bar food and beer each week, it's actually cheaper to get the ticket. At least, that's what I'd tell her. Plus, you don't have to drive home intoxicated. Luckily, I don't have this problem. My wife loves football as much as I do so I have a 4 TV setup in my game room.

dittto, and a 5th computer monitour to keep up whats going on the other games and my fantasy teams not on my 4 tv's.

2 hd, 1 rca big big screen and a 4th grandpas old 26 inch. I hope I dont lose that 4th tv to the digital conversion. I'd be bumbed without 5 options!

X-MAS comes early for me. Sept. 7th!

Preseason is just the holidays leading up to action packed Sundays. And Saturdays to some degree.

cancelled. they offered free Superfan but its time to quit cold turkey. The shakes should start with a vengeance Sept 7 around 12:30.

I just called and cancelled Direct TV. I told them that the cost of Sunday Ticket and Superfan were just too high and the only reason I had the service was because of the Ticket. They offered me $10 off per month for 12 months. I laughed and told him that wasn't even close to what it would take to keep me. I'm wondering if I'm going to get one of those callbacks to offer more. Has anyone else recieved one?
Ok, the cable company really screwed the pooch by being 3 hours late for the new install, so I made one more call to DTV. They gave me:Instant $50 credit$10 off per month for 12 monthsFree superfan$100 off an new HD DVRThere will be football again this year!I would advise everyone to keep calling and ask for what you want.
