***2011 Chicago Bears Regular Season Angry Meatball Overreaction Thread***

If they haven't admitted it yet with Hester, they're not going to with Roy. It's the unfortunate truth. This is spot on. Roy looks mediocre at best. Martz/Lovie can't really think that fans are that dumb. Fine, you brought in 11, gave your old buddy from Detroit a shot to rekindle some sort of spark - it doesn't look likes it working...move on.Barber signing - very nice. Carimi - excellent. But Roy W....it's okay, mistakes can happen to anyone (I heard that in a song once) Just don't make it worse by not admitting it was.Knox relegated to late 4th quarter team in 2nd preseason game, while Roy dropping balls and getting no separation and getting no separation on routes. Thanks, Martz.![]()
Does god exist?'B Maverick said:So Bears guys, will Knox be the WR to have on this team? Or will they kill all value trying to fit Roy in?
Still TBD. Martz seems locked in with Roy right now as the starter. I'm guessing the season starts that way, but if Roy keeps playing poorly, he should lose that gig. But who knows?Right now, I'm leaning toward Bennett being the guy to own, at least in PPR leagues. However, Hester is yet again going to get a big chance to be a big part of the receiving game. Frankly, it wouldn't shock me for all of these 4 WRs to have statistically mediocre years (from a fantasy perspective) and none of them emerging as 'the guy' to own.'B Maverick said:So Bears guys, will Knox be the WR to have on this team? I liked bennett before the williams signing and still do.'B Maverick said:So Bears guys, will Knox be the WR to have on this team? Or will they kill all value trying to fit Roy in?
This is a really hard question to answer because somebody will have to overrule the stubborn Martz and make him see the light early if Williams continues to struggle. I would probably bet on Knox leading the team in receptions. I think Williams does have the talent to lead the team in receptions but he always has seemed to lack the desire. Bennett will probably put up decent numbers but he might get a little lost in the shuffle. I have never been a strong supporter of Hester as a WR but there have been consistent reports out of camp that he is lighting it up in practice.I liked bennett before the williams signing and still do.'B Maverick said:So Bears guys, will Knox be the WR to have on this team? Just seeing him on Monday, this guy has the potential to be one of my most hated Bears ever'flapgreen said:Roy really has a great attitude and has a great future with the Bears.![]()

PROOF.C'mon, that was easy. Try to keep up.Totally agree. What are they thinking???? Oh wait.....Its JA......How many games do they win without Forte? Maybe 2?Why is this knuckle head Angelo and the rest of the "brain trust" foxing around with Matt Forte? Sign this guy already. Give him what he wants. This is the best RB the team has had since Neil Anderson and you are going to play games here? Maybe they can trade him to another team for a third rounder and save some face. Flippin morons!
It's too bad we can't all of the extra cap space on starters. Still 18 mil below the cap which doesn't look like is going to be spent. They don't even want to pay Forte, now.. Chalk that up as profit, I guess.
Forte has all the makings of a special player and they want to play hardball with him. He has shown class in playing preseason games, he is by far the best playmaker on the offense and they love to blow their horn about how they get off the bus running. Why does this organization continue to play this uncle scrooge conservative dumb card? These dummies cannot even get a decent field in place. Heck, they had U2 paying for a good percentage of the field two years ago and somehow they screwed that up. Cheap old ninnies running this team making dumb DUMB decisions. Quit trying to take leftover busts on the cheap and start paying the players that are worth the cost. They just got their nuts clipped with this new KO rule so they need to have the RB out there that can move the ball. Besides- he fits into Mandrake Martz's offense so pay the guy!!!!!!!'Badm said:Totally agree. What are they thinking???? Oh wait.....Its JA......How many games do they win without Forte? The Chicago Bears play a conservative card in everything that they do. They paid Peppers and Hester because it was a no brainer. How many times has this team traded down in the Angelo era to either pad their picks or avoid paying the big money?Barber is going to make 2 million and Chester Taylor is going to make 1.75 million. Forte? Due a base salary of 600K. If this isn't cheap than it is country dumb. 80% of what the Bears do is country dumb and when something good falls in their lap- well every one and their uncle knows what the heck is going on. Yeah- the Bears spent the money but they spend it on stiffs like Chester Taylor and a ton of DL and OL fodder. How many DL men did the genius draft before paying a bona fide stud top money? How many years have we seen this pathetic OL and probably a bottom 5 WR group?I dont think its time to panic about the forte deal. Forte didnt report to camp to be a nice guy, he reported to.avoid a $30k a day fine...he is asking for dwill money and rbs in general arent worth what dwill got paid. I think they will work something out and he will get.paid well. Not sure where everyone is coming with from about the bears being cheap. They spent huge.money last year, they rarely let a free agent they want walk. Forte will get locked up and will be happy. They will pay bennett and maybe knox, too (if he starts catching the ball).on a more important note, I thought the team looked pretty good last week. Moved the ball well and didnt have too.many dumb mistakes. The line held its own, the wr outside of bennett need some stickum, forte/barber will be stout in the run game, cutler was awfully accurate for being known for not being eratic. The defense wasnt great, but they always play.vanilla in preseason. I trust they will get special teams straight by week 1
NO! WAIT!!!!Chester Taylor cut....great signing last year
Per Rotoworld:
The right hand doesn't even know what the left hand is doing. You know why? Because both hands are MORONS!!!!!!The Bears have asked Chester Taylor to return to their facility Monday after deciding to release him earlier in the day.According to ESPN Chicago, the Bears' coaching staff wants to keep Taylor, while the front office is pulling for his release. It's not surprising that the veteran would be a coaching staff favorite for his ability to pick up the blitz, but Taylor offers nothing as a ball carrier going on age 32. The Bears are better off with Marion Barber behind Matt Forte. We'll update the outcome of this afternoon's meeting with Taylor once details are available.

I read a few bits and pieces from it. It sounded painful, but I'm sure the press conference was even worse.Lovie just had a press conference to try to pour water on the flames. WoW! First the nonsense at the draft with the Ravens and now this.
Now youre just ignoring facts...The bears do spend money. The front loaded all 3 of the free agents they signed last year because of the uncapped year, aggressive. The trade for cutler was very aggressive. They ALWAYS pay the players on the team that they want to keep. When was the last time.someone left the bears in free agency because the bears were cheap? I cant think.of one (kruetz wasnt about money). Forte will get paid. Dont campare contracts to value of.players. Contracts are written for the value of the player.when the contract.is signed. Forte was only worth 600k when he was signed, now he will get.more money. If rather sign him later and not overpay than give into whatever he wants and pay huge guaranteed money to a rb that is the.most likely player on the team to get hurt or decline abruptly.Complaining.about the quality of d-line is where.you lose credibility. The bears d-line has been a consistent strength for the last 10 years. Tommie harris, adewele oguneley, alex brown, isreal idonije, tank johnson, all solid players, several pro bowlers. The.bears let d-linemen walk because they know they can replace them. The o-line hasnt been that bad historically, and I have already made my case that I think they are improved to.mediocre. They still need a lot of work. The wr group is full of decent wr, not horrible. They just lack a #1. There was.no one available this year to.fill that except holmes, but I.dont think anyone but the.jets really had a chance to get him without severly overpaying. Its a definite.need for the bears, but its always been a need, hasnt it? And, come on guys...gholston a failure? Really? We didnt pay him ANYTHING! He had no guaranteed money! If Okoye works out and williams and gholston dont, thats a HUGE win for the bears. They invested almost nothing into any of them, so to get a productive player out of the group is awesome. I think the bears really could use 2 more olinemen, another db, a true #1 wr, and some backup linebackers. But come on guys, the team was very.good last year (dont give me that luck crap, you dont win the.nfc north and make it to the nfc championship game purely because of luck) and they havent lost anything.of value this year, they added carimi, and the offense should have a better grasp of the system (so far it looks pretty good, to me). I expect a drop off in wins because they.have a very.difficult schedule, they could play great.football and easily lose 3 of their first 4 games because of the quality of the other teams. But lets stop talking about them like they are the bengals, please. The Chicago Bears play a conservative card in everything that they do. They paid Peppers and Hester because it was a no brainer. These things aren't that big of a deal. You're drama, just like Johnny in your picture.Gohlston experiment failed. Didn't even make the team and we're thin thin thin at DE. Roy experiment also failed but he won't be cut. Outside of Okoye, no significant additions to the team that will make a bit of difference. For the most part I agree. But how many front offices release a guy, only to call him back and say "Actually...ummmm...well" and bring him back while they decide if they "really" want to cut him. This is similar to when JA forgot to check boxes on FA forms a few years back, so the Bears had to pay them extra $ In the long run is it a big deal? Nope. What does that have to do with cutting gholston? From what I've heard, no one told taylor he was cut, lovie told him he want in their plans last weekend and in the future as a courtesy to him, taylor assumed that meant he was cut. He will be cut, but they want to make sure that barber is healthy before they cut taylor. I haven't heard anyone in taylors camp that disputes this story.Because of the blunders in the bears front office in the past, their mistakes are magnified. Oh the perfect "Yes" man is back. Does JA still have diarrhea ir has it hardened up again? Funny how all of the beat writers in Chicago have critical of the way the Bears have handled the Taylor situation but you haven't. Roy has really started to come into his own. Don't ya think? The offensive line is going to be stout this year, unless we just get unlucky. These things aren't that big of a deal. You're drama, just like Johnny in your picture.Gohlston experiment failed. The Gholston signing isn't the same as the others. I just threw that in as another failed attempt to make something out of a former 1st round bust. There was little risk involved, but it does leave the defensive end position thin, which was an important position to address in the offseason along with the offensive line and wide receivers. The biggest weaknesses on the team were barely addressed in the offseason. That seems fairly obvious to me. If you look at the positions, they are still the weak spots, and there were plenty of low risk, cheap options out there. JA will spin it again as always, though. How anyone can see the handling of the Taylor situation in any way but pathetic, I don't get. He has no reason to lie about it. The writers are all there and they saw the same thing. That's really unlike Lovie too, so I'm thinking he had little to do with it and was forced to do damage control.Okoye looks like he will be huge. Pumped about a guy like him on the line. Adams isn't the long-term answer, but Melton and Okoye, Peppers and Idonije on the line for years could be huge barring injury. We shall see.'D.J. said:What does that have to do with cutting gholston? Taylor has been traded a couple of times before - I think he's heard the "Well, we're just going in a different direction..." speech before. My point is, if someone screwed up the process in a way that lead to a misunderstanding, it probably wasn't Taylor. Just saying.I've been listening to espn 1000 all day... jd, waddle and silvy all think that taylor was either ticked about getting cut or didn't understand the process and took from his conversation with lovie that he was done and left without actuslly bring cut. Had he actually been cut, it would have been obvious because they would have taken his playbook and out-processed him l (had him sign paperwork and such).

But see - that's the point. The Bears, allegedly weren't cutting him (at least that's how they are spinning it now). Supposedly they were telling him they were going to trade him...but apparently made him think they were cutting him (which is my point - they botched it.) It doesn't really matter - except for the fact that now they are trying to trade him...which is yet another goof - everyone knows they intended to cut him (possibly...or maybe they were just trading him, but Taylor, who has benn traded before, misunderstood...He's never been cut. Yes that was their decision to pay him top ST money and try to squeeze as much as they could out of him. The old getting a "bang out of your buck". And now- the new ST KO rule (not the Bear's fault) will just prove to be a waste of that money and the fact that he clearly does not understand the offense as a WR will prove even more that they wasted that money. What the Bears have is an overpaid punt returner that can be a game changer at times during punts or in the offense as a WR if and when he can make a play. In contrast, they are unwilling to pay Forte what he is worth. I am not going to look at the numbers but Hester is probably making more than Forte. Who has the most value to the team? Also- if I am not mistaken- the Bears were getting some offers for Hester or they may have been able to exploit an opportunity to trade him for some serious value. The Bears were one of a handful of teams to try to vote down the new KO rule. Mark my words- that will hurt them this year as they will lose valuable FP that they have enjoyed for the past two or three seasons. In hindsight, they had to pay him the money but look at Taylor and the other waste of money Brandon Manumaleuna. Country dumb.Eternally dumb.Without Hester the bears don't make the SB that year. The other thing is- Barber has an injury so they played it safe until they can get a better idea as to the extent of his injury.I agree with DJ and disagree with many of you on this being the Bears fault. Lovie Smith has a reputation as being a "players coach" and supposedly is very honest with all his players. He probably told Taylor that he was probably not going to be in their long-term plans which meant that he would be cut when the rosters were finalized unless an injury occurred in the final preseason game. What probably happened is that Taylor is a proud athlete and got angry and tuned Lovie out or he misinterpreted the conversation to mean he was being cut right then and there. I am not a big defender of the Bears front office who can't seem to fill out paperwork and check boxes among other things but I think they were probably right in this case.
Thats the real key, there is no advantage to the bears to cut him now, if something happens between now and the cut date, they will need him.The other thing is- Barber has an injury so they played it safe until they can get a better idea as to the extent of his injury.I agree with DJ and disagree with many of you on this being the Bears fault. Lovie Smith has a reputation as being a "players coach" and supposedly is very honest with all his players. He probably told Taylor that he was probably not going to be in their long-term plans which meant that he would be cut when the rosters were finalized unless an injury occurred in the final preseason game. 1. How often does hester return kicks? - less than 1/3 of the time last year. This year knox will be the primary return man. The new rule hurts the bears, but bot really hester. His strength is, and has always been, punt returns.2. What hester gets paid and what a rb on his rookie deal get paid are completwly unrelated. 3. Can we stop crying.for forte and his.lack of deal until there actually isnt a deal? He isnt holding out, the talks are not reported to be contentious. For all we know, forte wont sign a new.deal until the chris.johnson.deal gets done so.he has a better arguement for more money. as I said.before, the bears hardly ever.lose a free agent they want to keep. What makes everyone think they are going to lose forte? On another.note, alex brown got released. I hear he still.lives in.chicago...maybe they bring him home to rotate with peppers and idonije?Yes that was their decision to pay him top ST money and try to squeeze as much as they could out of him. Hell, they may not have even made the playoffs. so yes, he was so amazing that it was a no brainer to pay him to be around. The dumb part was saying "Ok, now that we're paying you a lot its too much to be 'just' a return man so you're going to be a starting wideout as well. Oh, you can't handle both? We'll cut back on your return duties then."Paying Hester was a no-brainer? Really? Paying a return man that you don't want to be a return man top wr money? Cutting CT was the first smart thing we've done this preseason.'Power Monster said:The Chicago Bears play a conservative card in everything that they do. How many years have we seen this pathetic OL and probably a bottom 5 WR group?'D.J. said:I dont think its time to panic about the forte deal.
Today that is true. But when the deal was done he was also the primary kickoff man and making just as much of an impact there as with punts. He may have had more punt TDs but had a lot of kickoffs down inside the oppositions 20 as well, punt returns tend to not have to go as far. The reason Knox is now there is threefold1. Knox is also good at kickoff returns.2. Taub is so amazing that any good returner is going to excel.3. Hester can't handle all 3 (KO, PR, WR) and the braintrust keeps insisting he has WR talents.1. I agree with all of that. The point I was making is that the new kickoff rule doesn't have a big effect on hesterToday that is true. I guess if they aent really looking at brown, they probably feel good about melton coming back healthy soonAlex Brown available and we are thin at DE. Picking up Brown instead of keeping Addison or Reed would seem like the best move, but it probably won't happen. Lovie's response when asked about Brown: "We like our players."Eta: beat me to it, DJ.
wootton also should be coming back shortly. he'll need to get some reps but should be a shot in the arm.'D.J. said:I guess if they aent really looking at brown, they probably feel good about melton coming back healthy soon'flapgreen said:Alex Brown available and we are thin at DE. All fine and dandy until Forte is playing for another team and barber is your starting RB. Yes I am crying for them to sign Forte because the genius brain trust has proved to be complete idiots in how they go about their business.1.
