Really? Even before addressing other needs on the D Line or CB? I might even be willing to take another LB like Greene if he's still there over Barkely who will not be contributing for at least two years barring injury to Cutler. I think maybe next year is a better year to target a QB. I think fewer teams will be in need of QBs next year. Who are the top QBs for next year?

Me too. Now we're pretty set at the LB position for a few years. So now what will the Bears do in the 4th? WR? Another OL? Any decent young CBs left?

Based on what you are saying, this thread should either be Bears fans agreeing with everything the front office does, or it should be locked? Or perhaps we should only discuss the drafts from 2008-2012, since we have facts to prove (disprove) how well those turned out.

When I disagree with a pick, I try to give reasons and back those reasons with facts. To me, that's called an intelligent debate.

I like to think I give credit when I agree with the front office decisions as well.

4.1 (98) Philadelphia Eagles (From JAX)—Matt Barkley (QB USC)

Wow, a trade up for a QB who doesn't fit the system? Now, he'll be accurate in Chip Kelly's timing system, but he won't have the ability to stretch the field, do any running or provide the quick strike element to go along with the quick tempo. Great value and fits a need, but seems like a similar player as Nick Foles and better fits were available. (Grade C)

I'll be serious for a moment. I don't know a lot about Long. What I do know is he has a good pedigree. He started for a damned good CFB team. I watched him play a handful of games. And many people (some who are quite knowledgeable) have pointed out that he has all the athletic ability to be a very good OL. Some people are anticipating him to be a starter THIS YEAR.

You guys know no more than I do. It's ridiculous to whine about the pick given what we know. Especially when some were fearing Teo being the pick.

The NFL is not a dog show. I just don't get the pedigree theory. If Kyle had such a great family influence, then how did he get a DUI? How did he flunk out of Florida State? Why wasn't he a top five pick (or a #1 overall like his brother)?

The reason you only watched a handful of games, is because he only played in a handful of games. Unless you can find some Saddleback College tape.

He has the physical ability, but so does J'Marcus Webb.

The Bears are obviously serious about fixing the o-line. But they seem to be ignoring Garza. I would think they would be trying to replace him. Perhaps he will be better if they upgrade the talent around him, but he isn't that good, and he is 34. I just occured to me that I haven't heard any mention of alternatives to Garza.

 
I really liked this draft. I didn't see the Long pick live, and probably would have been upset that we passed on Eifert. However, the guy sounds like he can play multiple spots and should be a solid starter down the road.

Didn't know much about Bostic other than the name prior to the pick. For who was on the board, I think this was a very good selection.

Greene was someone I was watching since pre-draft. Fits the Bears style of play perfectly. Loved this pick actually.

Mills - Knew nothing of him. Scouting report reads pretty well. Can't knock grabing more OL at this point.

Washington - Potential is there for this kid to be real good. Great value.

Wilson - Swing for the fences in the last round, how can anyone complain.

Been hoping for a new center since time ran out week 17. Is Spencer still even on the roster? If not who would be the backup? Can Edwin play there?

Mark Harrison is a WR that is similar to Brandon Marshall. Good size, inconsistent, but a nice signing.

The bolded part is still my concern. He should be a solid starter down the road. Everyone should go back through the first round and look at every pick made. With the exception of the Cowboys picking Travis Frederick, all the other picks will start this year or make significant contributions to their teams. That's why this pick is questionable. Your first round pick (the guy you are paying the most) needs to contribute the most.

As far as Bostic and being happy with the pick, based on who was on the board??? Arthur Brown was still on the board. The Ravens took him 6 picks later (and moved up to get him)??

Not sure it would have worked out, but we could have taken Brown instead of Bostic and possibly taken Greene in round 4 (Ravens may have taken Greene) Either way, if we had taken Brown, the Bears could have taken Bostic or Beauharnais in the 4th.

The more I look at the draft and the players that were available, it looks like the Emery and Trestman failed to look at how the draft was playing out and take advantage of value that fell to them.

 
Per Profootballtalk, the Bears are a possible landing spot for Tebow.

Bears: In January, a source with direct knowledge of the Tebow dynamics in New York offered a prediction about his future. “Watch the Bears,” the source said. And it makes sense. New Bears coach Marc Trestman helped tutor Tebow before the 2010 draft, and Trestman squatted on Tebow’s CFL rights during Trestman’s time as coach of the Montreal Alouettes.

I would not be against this. I think I posted somewhere on this forum a while back that I thought Tebow would make a good TE. I would not be against the Bears signing him to a one-year contract as a TE and backup QB. Worth a risk if Tebow accept that he will be the backup, especially since we can use depth at the QB position and Trestman likes using TEs (which I think Tebow would be good at).

 
I love Tebow but I doubt he can be a TE. Can he catch the ball downfield? In traffic? Does he understand route running?

FB always seemed like the logical position for him. Let him put his head down and open holes, get a few carries a game, maybe catch a couple of dump offs. I think he'd be effective in that role.

 
As pissed off as I was that they didn't take Sharif Floyd or Eifert with their 1st rounder, I'm ok with the rest of their draft. I still think they could have gotten Long in the 2nd.
