Camp gets his first shot and he gets two easy outs, then goes 2-2 on Pence and allows the first HR the Cubs have yielded all year at home. lol
You're probably right, but I don't see the point. He's 30. He threaded the needle long enough now, with those walk and flyball rates.I think Marmol gets the job back real soon

Fangraphs seems to think Mujica will be the guy. That was enough for me to grab him this morning.I grabbed Mujica in one league, but who knows. So Boggs just blew another one but Rosenthal also let up 2 runs in the 8th. Doesn't look like either of them want the job. What's the move here for closers? If someone gets this job and produces it could be great pickup since I'm guessing Motte won't be coming back this year.
Tough call. As frustrating as he's been and as much crap as he gets, I still think Marmol can be an effective pitcher. And he has the kind of stuff that can close games, if he can get his head right. That said, I'm pretty pessimistic about him getting another shot this season. Sveum is babysitting this team right now and I don't know that he has the stomach to roll with Marmol again and take the heat for it if it blows up. And I can't see him getting traded either.I'm having a tough time pulling the trigger on Mujica. Rosenthal is also available in my league. I would be dropping Marmol for either one but can't decide.![]()
Well, after last night Matheny indicated that Mujica might get the next save opp. Meanwhile you have to figure that Russell would need to blow atleast a couple of chances before Marmol is even considered again.Tough call. Tough call, but when it comes to closers, I'll take opportunity over ability, and it sounds to me like Mujica or Rosenthal will be the ones getting the chances. Flip a coin and drop Marmol.
Yeah, I opted for Mujica myself. But I try to stay aware that managers never give us the full story. Never know when there's a ploy to motivate...™ afoot.Well, after last night Matheny indicated that Mujica might get the next save opp. Meanwhile you have to figure that Russell would need to blow atleast a couple of chances before Marmol is even considered again.Tough call. lolololololValverde, re-signed a couple of weeks ago as a possible option to the closer situation in Detroit, pitched two scoreless innings today in this second appearance for the Tigers' extended spring training team.
He struck out four and did not allow a walk, according to MLB.com reporter Jason Beck, against the Canadian junior national team made up of 18-, 17- and 16-year-olds. This was the second of two scheduled outings for Valverde.
Nathan Borges, 18, a pitcher on the Canadian team, tweeted after the game: "jose valverde pitched against us today. it was the most odd thing I've ever been a part of."
The next move for Valverde is supposed to to Triple-A Toledo, at least that's what Tigers president Dave Dombrowski said on April 4 when Valverde was brought in. The date of that call-up is unknown. Valverde can opt out of his deal with Detroit if he hasn't joined the major league team by May 5.
Happens. I'm in a league where we only start one RP. No reason to roster a whole bunch of themI hate to be this guy, but why the hell are all those closers free agents?
Really laid back league. We pretty much just have a draft to have an excuse to get together for a trip to AC.I hate to be this guy, but why the hell are all those closers free agents?

Ten guys, start 5 "hitters" regardless of position, 3 SPs, 2 RPs.
Almost no add/drops after the draft except for injuries or your 3 additional you can use at any time.
I got Chapman as the 6th closer off the board because I knew no one was paying attention to the news he went back to closing.
Who would you go with out of the available guys? TIA
What the hell do I know? Local sports radio guy says we'll see Marmol back as closer by the end of the week. Marmol has delivered four straight scoreless appearances since being removed from the closer role, which has Sveum thinking about giving him another chance. "I would be lying to you if he wasn't working his way back into it," said Sveum. "He is throwing strikes and he is throwing his slider more and he's more consistent. So, yeah, he's working his way back. That was part of the deal."

Hanrahan to the DL now. Bailey should have the job for the next two weeks. He just wanted to get that W.My analysisBlown save for Bailey.![]()
You drinking my friend?I fell like in "closer time" we are already in July.
Gregg is a "proven closer" and has cool goggles but he really wasn't that good in the closer role in his primeCubs signed former closer Kevin Gregg, who had a good spring. Weirder things have happened than him getting a shot to close.
If any two pitchers ever needed to be traded for each other it's Axford and Marmol. Fresh start would help them both.
This is probably enough to earn him an opportunity at the Cubs role.Gregg is a "proven closer" and has cool goggles but he really wasn't that good in the closer role in his primeCubs signed former closer Kevin Gregg, who had a good spring. I figured it was the 2nd part of that sentence that qualified him for the Cubs closer role. This is probably enough to earn him an opportunity at the Cubs role.Gregg is a "proven closer" and has cool goggles but he really wasn't that good in the closer role in his primeCubs signed former closer Kevin Gregg, who had a good spring. To be honest, Eephus made lots of good points. Not sure why he thinks Gregg doesn't deserve a shot, he basically laid the perfect case out there for it.I figured it was the 2nd part of that sentence that qualified him for the Cubs closer role. This is probably enough to earn him an opportunity at the Cubs role.Gregg is a "proven closer" and has cool goggles but he really wasn't that good in the closer role in his primeCubs signed former closer Kevin Gregg, who had a good spring. Even a blind squirrel can find the strikezone now and againSince early season ####iness, marmol has pitched 5 scoreless, with 2 hits, 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
Yeah, he's probably one or two outings away from a potential trip to Memphis. Good grief.Gotta think Boggs is completely out of the picture in St Louis, he's just awful.
They should be a candidate for many save opps. I'd definitely hold. Are the Padres planning on getting a save opp this season? Close to dumping Street regardless of how he pitching.

SD won't win many games, but they sure aint going to win many by more then 3 either. He is a hold and I'm sure he will look fine at the end of the year. They should be a candidate for many save opps. Serious Business.Kevin Gregg was not a good reliever the past two years. Crazier things may have happened, but I would be shocked if he got a shot at the closers role. He certainly won't be on my fantasy team.
