A's extend Coco Crisp for 2 more years, 22mm total, with a vesting option for '17 at 13mm.
Maybe 34 year old speed guys with injury histories and freak late career power surges are the new market inefficiency
There's 29 other MLB teams that don't have Mike Morse. Gotta make do however you can.
I'm pretty sure at least three teams have Mike Morse

I wish Nelson Cruz would hurry up and sign somewhere. I have no interest in him coming back to Texas, but I am oddly extremely interested in seeing which team takes a chance on him.
The Mariners are currently interested in Cruz and meeting with him. Apparently they don't have enough dh types.
Beat writer Bob Dutton says it's only a matter of time before Cruz is a Mariner.

Their DH/COF collection is magnificent.

They have to give up a first round draft pick, yes? And they still have Kendrys under their thumb?

Nope. Their first is protected, and they already gave up their second for Cano. So it's a third round pick if they sign him.

The Dodger$ sign LHP Paul Maholm 1/$1.5M with incentives because they could. It's a pretty good insurance policy in case neither Beckett or Billingsley come pack. All but one of Maholm's MLB appearances have been as a starter but his splits suggest he could be an effective LOOGY if he can adjust to the role.

Platform question:

Points league. Week to week.

Want to award bonus points for a hitter that gets two extra base-hits in a single game. Has to be in a single game. Possible for a hitter to reach the bonus multiple times in a week.

We use sportsline. Yeah I know it sucks. Can CBS accomodate that or maybe Fantrax?

Just think it will further separate, minimally, the impact hitters as well as increase the entertainment value later in games. Sucks when your guy goes 2-4 with 2 doubles and only gets 4 pts. The bonus would add something I feel.

Tossing around the idea. I know a double is a double and if no runs or ribbies occur it's just that. But when I guy get's two extra base-hits that's a damm good game and would like to reward that for hitter not in great offenses.
Don't see the need for this.

@ToddZolecki: A.J. Burnett agrees to one-year deal with Phillies. http://t.co/FOpuPcjieE
Feels strange to say this, but that's a good move by the Phils. If he pitches well and the Phils surprise he shores up their rotation without affecting any future spending. If he pitches well and the Phils don't surprise they can move him to a contender at the deadline for prospects. If he doesn't pitch well, no problem- he's not taking a rotation spot from a deserving candidate and he doesn't cost them a dime after the season.

yes

Any way to incorporate total earnings into that comparison? I imagine Jeter has made quite a bit on the promotional side of things.

Drew made 9 million last season, then turned down the Sox one year 14.1 offer. Will he get anywhere near that now? Same with Kendry Morales.

Hard to believe that players turn down 14 million.

It seems like all of these players receiving QO's are getting really poor advice.

Drew would be worth it but he can never stay healthy. I wish the Yankees signed him if the contract was reasonable. Something like 3yrs, 30mil

Pick compensation is really hurting Drew IMO, that and he's not that great of a player
He's been pretty good defensively over the last few years.

What pick would the Yankees give up if they signed him?
I believe a second because they already signed Ellsbury. I know they're the Yankees and that's how they roll but it's tougher to remain competitive while neglecting the farm system. There are only so many international free agents available and a lot can happen to 16 year old Dominicans during their development cycle.

Love him or hate him, he's earned that.
Derek Jeter has earned $76,344 per hit in his career.
So that means he stole like 300 bases and played defense and drove in runs and scored runs and played in the playoffs and worked out during the offseason and reported to spring training and went to team functions, entirely for free!!!

Well great, now we can add EXTREMELY GENEROUS to his list of superlatives.

he was very generous with his gift baskets.

YEAH JETES!

Chien Ming Wang signed a deal to go to spring training with the Reds. He can opt out mid-season if he gets a better offer somewhere else.

I doubt Wang has much left but he's an experienced arm in case Latos' recovery goes longer than expected.

Ubaldo Jimenez to Baltimore reportedly for 4/$48M. The Orioles will lose the 17th pick in the draft as well.

ETA: ...pending a physical
