*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (1 Viewer)

Ooh, semantics!
No it's just stating facts. Besides I listed Lester regardless. Now go back down to the basement
Does this statement presuppose that I have to leave the basement to post?
I thought the entire point of the internet was that you didn't have to move at all.
I'm shuked
my hand usually moves

Yes it does. Your wifi is weak down there.

And your phone privileges end at 3 pm on Thursdays.
I like the edit to get that extra jab in.

Phone privileges end at 3! :lmao:

That's some great material, Bania.

I take back my 'weak' comment. It's clearly not that.

Question for Da Grillz: How long is this $20M amount only for aces? Forever? 5 years?

Also, did James Shields have sex with your mother and not call her back?

2007 - Zito's SF deal was the highest ever at that point, he got 7/126 or ~ 18 per

So a good 6-8 yrs now we've seen these inflated #'s.

So if/when Shields gets 4/65, we must have transported back to 2006. Ya know since contracts get bigger with time. :o

But Zito was an ace and remains one to this day
Well his #'s were better then Shields at the time of that signing. But yea most people thought that contract was crazy also. The same reaction people would have today if James got 20+/yr. Zito was also 4 yrs young and had a ridiculous W/L ratio.

Having said all that, he at least was a 'big game' pitcher. Career 2.83 postseason ERA. BIG GAME James just a tad higher at 5.46. I know I know, that's meaningless.

"Growing sense" Padres will get James Shields

I got a growing sense I was getting laid last night, but that didn't happen.
Ace or no, Shields would still be the biggest pickup of the Padres' busy offseason. He would solidify the front of their rotation while reducing the need for one of their lottery ticket SPs (e.g. Morrow, Josh Johnson, Kelly) to pan out.

I'm not totally sold on their offense; their infield is pretty weak but adding Shields would at least give their rotation the look of a contender.

Barry Zito's 4 years before signing his contract

FIP 4.05, 4.50, 4.34, 4.89

James Shields 4 years before this contract

FIP 3.42, 3.47, 3.47, 3.59

Zeet's ERA was lower than his FIP in every one of those years which was true of his career as a whole. Some guys are just like that.

I'm also not sure the Giants' front office understood FIP in 2007.

What about Zito's first 500 IP, conveniently left those out I guess? But i agree, his years leading up to that deal were far from good and I thought the contract was horrendous at the time, so you're preaching to the choir.

I'm surprised to be in the minority here to be honest. Who on earth would give a 33 yr old SP a $100 million/contract. Apparently a lot of you I guess...

Are you sure they do in 2015?
