*2014-15 Hot Stove Thread: The Padres won it I guess (2 Viewers)

I think a Hiroshima Toyo Carp Marmol jersey would be pretty cool

Robert Murray of MLBDailyRumors.com reports that Carlos Marmol has offers from teams in Asia but prefers to sign with a contending major league club.

Marmol probably should be able to land a minor league offer somewhere, but he might not be able to be picky about which team it comes from. The 32-year-old held an 8.10 ERA over 15 appearances with the Marlins last season before being released and then quit three appearances into a stint at Triple-A with the Reds.

Adam Wainwright, son of singer/songwriter Loudon Wainwight and brother of singer/songwriter/composer Rufus Wainwight, was sent back to St. Louis to have an abdominal pain checked out.

The plan was to limit his work during spring training because his workload the last two seasons was so high, but this isn't the first swerve over Waino's health since last season ended.

As a big Marmol fan, I really hope he stays in MLB.
MLB players coming back from Japan always complain how Gaijin get squeezed both ways on the strke zone. Marmol might never throw a called strike if he goes overseas.
If I learned anything from Mr. Baseball, it's that taking a walk is a sin over there. Or striking out. I don't really remember the movie. I'm sure Marmol will be fine.

Asked a baseball executive if Hamilton’s discipline was for PEDs. His response: “Worse.” The executive declined to elaborate.

"On a scale of 20 to 80, where 20 is 'double parked across a handicapped space' and 80 is 'Craig James Killed Five Hookers', where would you rate Hamilton's actions?"

I'm going to go under the assumption that the shoulder was OK to play with, but not 100%. Knowing this was on the horizon, decided to get it done.

Anybody else think the Cuban/international players should be forced to go through the draft process just like everyone else?

Seems this would really help out the smaller clubs
MLB is creating a problem in the American born circles. They'll pay for it at the bargaining table if they dont address it soon. I know Smyly is just one player but his Tweet probably summarizes more than a few players opinions.
How would MLB pay for this at the bargaining table? They want an international draft to hold down salaries, and the MLBPA will sell out international rookies out just like they did US rookies.

The established players don't want it. Just like when the NFLPA tossed the rookies under the bus to get their way on something else. Same will happen here.

Josh Hamilton meeting with MLB officials, re: disciplinary issue, suspension possible.
Feel bad about this because I have met Josh and his wife and I hope he can work out of this again .... BUT I also hope that the Angels have a clause in his contract that would allow them to terminate what was a terrible contract when it was signed and is far worse now

A's claimed Tigers reliever/Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer/Will Ferrell look-a-like Chad Smith off waivers from Detroit.

Fastball-reliant and probably not too helpful against lefties, but he doesn't seem like a guy that should be able to get away.

Johan Santana, the lovechild of philosopher George Santayana and Scarlett Johansson, signed a minor league deal with the Blue Jays in his quest to have elbow surgery in every country in the Americas.
