2014 NHL Offseason Thread - Free Agency Starts July 1st (1 Viewer)

Andre Burakovsky just keeps on impressing me every time I see him play and the Caps are gonna have a really hard time not finding a roster spot for him this year.

Some really good young talent being thrown in with Kuznetsov in the fold as well.Top 6 looks really solid offensively but Trotz has his work cut out for him getting them to try and find a happy medium between good offense and still playing solid D.

I remember know why I always hated Brooks Orpik because if he isn't hitting people he just flat out stinks at everything else.

I laughed at the irony when I seen this on the schedule, but apparently it was a planned jagoff move by the league. Wtf?! Or maybe a request from the Sharks themselves???

Bettman says #SJSharks opening night scheduled to watch #LAKings raise their Stanley Cup banner "wasn't an accident"....

When John Chaney was the men's hoop coach at Temple, he used to make his team stay on the bench and watch any time the opposing team was celebrating a conference title or something similar.

Maybe the Sharks are trying to build up some hunger in their team, like "This could be you if you put in the hard work necessary."

Breaking: #Isles have acquired D Johnny Boychuk from the Bruins for a 2015 2nd, a 2016 2nd and a conditional 2015 3rd round pick.

1:50pm - 4 Oct 14

Boychuk & Leddy to the Isles.

Huge trades - taking advantage of cap strapped teams. Just beautiful - last year at NVMC will be a fun one. Just got tickets for the last game to be played there.

In what must be a long painful list . . . . Another BAD day to be a Sabres fan. LOL.

It's going to be interesting to see if Leddy can make the jump to a Top 4 guy. I don't think he would have ever cracked the Top 4 in Chicago.

The Boychuk move could free up enough money to sign Gagne.

Tough to see Boychuk go, but the B's were deep on the blue line with Chara, Seidenberg, Hamilton, McQuaid, Krug, Bartkowski and Miller. They also sent down Warsofsky, who really has nothing to prove in Providence but is caught in the numbers game.

Exactly.

I liked Leddy but they have a bunch of young guys who will step into the 3rd D pairing who are younger and cheaper. I am hoping Rundblad puts it all together but if not they have a bunch of other guys waiting in Cuminskey, Dahlbeck, Van Riemsdyk, Clendening, Johns, and more.

I hope Leddy really works out in NY.

Both TVR and Cuminskey look promising. TVR especially gifted in the offensive zone. I liked Leddy but his hockey IQ if you will was always questionable. Positioning was never exactly right and while he could bring it up the ice and QB a PP (which Q never used him for unfortunately) I think he was the best option to move, and to be honest I am glad it was Leddy instead of Oduya, who IMO, is criminally underrated on the Hawks D.

Looks like Duclair will make the Ranger's lineup. He was very impressive the Rangers in the Pre-season and has great wheels. Looks like the Rangers' speed is going to be exceptional this year hehe. Kid is only 19 years old too. I hope he's the real deal and can adjust to NHL level play.

Sounds like the Caps lines could sort out like this to start the season

Ovechkin/Backstrom/Fehr

Johansson/Burakovsky/Brouwer

Chimera/Laich/Ward

O'Brien or Latta/Kuznetsov/Brown

D pairings

Carlson/Orpik

Niskanen/Alzner

Green/Erskine,Hillen or Schmidt if Green isn't ready

G

Holtby backed up by Peters

Wilson and Orlov are not close to being ready(a few weeks for both).

Looks like Bobby Robins makes the Bruins roster. Great story ... nine minor league/European seasons, 11 different teams, finally cracks the NHL at age 32. He'll take Thornton's role, I assume.

Simon Gagne stays for now, even though he still is not under contract.

I'm not sure how the forward lines will look, although it seems likely that Marchand-Bergeron-R. Smith stays intact. Eriksson has been skating with Lucic and Krejci all preseason, but as an off-hand RW with a right-shot C, I'm not sure. I still think ultimately he ends up with Kelly and Soderberg. Perhaps either Gagne or Matt Fraser fills that "top line" RW spot.

Campbell is out injured, so that changes the early projections a bit ... Ryan Spooner makes the team, and Craig Cunningham could stick initially.

D-pairs look pretty well set: Chara-Hamilton; Seidenberg-McQuaid; Krug-Miller; Bartkowski odd man out for now.

Haven't been this excited for a season since 94. Why I ever left hockey I'll never know. My oldest is stoked as well, our fantasy league is ready to go, and I have to deal with a Flyers fan in my house. That should be a ton of fun.
