Syracuse fans should drive to Chapel Hill and burn that cesspool down if the NCAA doesn't hammer them 10x worse.

This is the last post of yours I'm ever reading. Putting you on ignore will be the best thing I can do (anyone can do really) that wants to enjoy this thread. Everyone has bias, but for the most part this is an enjoyable thread, except for you.

My ignore list consists of this boards worst, you'll fit right in. Your miserable repetitiveness is unbearable. I'd imagine even on Duke boards everyone ignores you.

I hope you enjoy your ride in the wabulance. And I am very loved on TDD. Thanks for your concern.

This is an absolute joke. I have to say some of the people on this site calling themselves Syracuse "fans" are an embarrassment. To not see these sanctions as ridiculously overreaching and to not see this investigation (the school has been under investigation for almost a decade! A DECADE!) as downright harassment, I don't understand how you can say you're a fan of the school. There isn't a single D1 program in the country that could come out 100% squeaky clean after a decade of NCAA scrutiny. Not one. Every email read, hundreds of thousands of documents perused. Keep in mind this whole thing started because we self-reported a violation of our elective drug policy. The NCAA states if your school has a drug policy (not all do) and if you violate that policy, then you have to report the violation. (Note to every other school: don't enact your own drug policy.) So a handful of college kids take a hit from a gravity bong, we make a phone call and all these years later we get pegged for an unprecedented reduction in scholarships, our HOF coach has to vacate 108 wins and is suspended for 9 conference games, we have restrictions on recruiting in terms of severely limiting the number of coaches who are able to go on recruiting trips AND we have no postseason of any kind this year. To all the people who say well they just self banned this year because they weren't making the tournament anyway: screw you. This post season ban matters and it completely sucks. We absolutely could have made the tournament had our hearts not been ripped out and even if we didn't, not playing in the ACC tournament and whatever else is crushing.

Now, all of those penalties which will basically haunt our coach's legacy forever and wreak havoc on the program for 8 YEARS (going to take that long to fully recover from the scholarship reductions) are because the NCAA found these three things out during a decade long investigation:

(italicized taken from a respected source)

1) The former Director of Basketball Operations and his secretary essentially rewriting a paper for one student to get a better grade. Upon finding out about this, both employees were terminated or asked to resign.
2) A handful of players ostensibly smoking weed and instead of someone calling their parents as the SU self-imposed policy states, Boeheim decided to consult the students on his own and not call the parents.

3). A grand total of $8000 and change paid to players that did some work with the YMCA with the work not being substantiated properly and a violation of NCAA rules.

There were other things, mainly smaller things but I submit that this evidence is certainly not indicative of a department "out of control" but more like what you would likely find at any D1 school if you unearth thousands of documents and spend countless man hours interviewing "witnesses."

If this isn't a witch hunt, what is? Boeheim has done some damn great things in his almost 37 years as head coach but those 3 things listed above, in the mind of the NCAA, trump everything good and they choose to destroy the man's legacy as well as harshly penalize current and future players, the fans, student's and alumni. You know who's really about to be stung because of this? The scholarship guys at the end of our bench who dreamed their whole lives about playing for and graduating from SU. Congrats NCAA, those are the guys who will feel the brunt of this because they're about to be told there isn't a scholarship here for them anymore. "Sorry guys, not our call but we hear Eastern Michigan is a fun place to play. Toodaloo." Millions of dollars spent by the NCAA just to shame a man, have some guys wrap up their collegiate careers at a lesser program and to crush the spirit of the all the people who attended the school and/or love the program, the most supported program in terms of attendance in the history of the sport. Shame on everybody in the NCAA and shame on the SU "fans" who take this sitting down and say "the punishment is likely well deserved."
lol

Later boeheim, it was a good run

Then go post there. Even the Duke fans hate you here.

The funny thing is the 2-3 that actually defend you complain when someone posts about Duke like you do to other schools. You single handedly ruin this thread every year.

We all did (Knitting thread) and you followed everyone there once you figured it out. How about this? I'll stay out of this thread if you stay out of the College Basketball thread.

Seems like the most appropriate solution would be for those who have been banned from the forum (repeatedly) to stay out of the forum altogether. Just saying...

I just couldn't do that. I mean, to deny you the chance to talk about your 3 conference wins here in this thread, I'd just feel so guilty. :fro:

Thread already feels more readable  Should've done this a while ago.

Nice win for State over Syracuse to close out the regular season. They should be safely in the NCAA tournament now no matter what happens in the ACC tournament.

Cat Barber was awesome today: 10 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, 1 turnover, and his typical excellent defense.

Survive And Advance got replayed a couple days ago.

Having Valvano's ESPYs speech in the back of my mind makes all the motivational speech footage of him at full health even more powerful.

"My bags are packed. I believe in you."

IMO that is the best 30 for 30 ever made.

Boeheim skipped the postgame press conference after the game and had one of his assistants handle it. Lame.

I watched it again the other night. I wasn't going to watch it because it came on at 11:30 pm, but I got hooked. My mom says my dad can't watch it without  , especially if he has been drinking his wine.

My dad was friends with Jimmy. Not close friends, but friendly with one another whenever there were Wolfpack Club functions. I can't remember what my dad's position used to be in the Wolfpack Club back when Jimmy was coach, but my mom loves to tell the story about when my dad drove Jimmy from Winston-Salem to Burlington. Jimmy was playing in a golf tournament in Winston, and he had to do a business type function in Burlington after the tournament. My dad (& mom) gave him a ride. That was when my dad had one of those fugly two-toned Cadillac Sevilles. Anyway, mom says Jimmy sang and joked the whole way to Burlington. She said he changed clothes in the back seat of the car, and told her not to look. She knows all of the details, but that was her fun Jimmy moment...It's sad his life was cut short, but he sure made the most of life while he was here.

Do they play Duke on Wednesday?

Who does he think he is? Mike Krzyzewski?
It would be nice if someone cried every time you took your shots at Duke like so many people cry when I do the same for the dirtiest and biggest cheating program in the history of NCAA basketball.
Yeah, LOL at Dickinson. Can't even get his facts right as usual, and of course if the same standard was applied to Archer as to Dickinson (who fancies himself some big knowledgeable dood but completes his act with a nasty Internet Tough Guy routine - which Archer doesn't do - and ceaseless attacks on Duke), everyone would be demanding that he be run off the board.

State is the 7 seed and will play the 10 seed on Wednesday at 7 pm EST. The 10 seed has not yet been determined.

Duke will play the winner of that game on Thursday at 7 pm EST.

Since there has been some debate in this thread about Gottfried, consider his track record so far at State:

2011-12:

Took over team that was 15-16 (5-11) in 2010-11 and had not made NCAA tournament since 2005-06

20-11 (9-7) regular season, 24-13 (11-8) overall

2-1 ACC tournament (2 point screwjob loss to UNC in semis)

2-1 NCAA tournament (3 point loss to Kansas in S16)

RPI 47, SOS 21

3 big wins, all in postseason: UVA in ACC tournament and SDSU and Georgetown in NCAA tournament

2 bad losses: Georgia Tech at home, at Clemson

2012-13:

22-9 (11-7) regular season, 24-11 (13-8) overall

2-1 ACC tournament

0-1 NCAA tournament (bad loss to Temple by 4 points)

RPI 32, SOS 39

2 big wins: UNC and #1 Duke, both at home

1 bad loss: at Wake

2013-14:

Lost starters Brown, Leslie, Howell, and Wood from previous season

19-12 (9-9) regular season, 22-14 (11-10) overall

2-1 ACC tournament

1-1 NCAA tournament (lost to #5 seed St. Louis in OT)

RPI 54, SOS 23

2 big wins: at Pitt, Syracuse in ACC tournament

3 bad losses: NC Central, at Wake, Miami

2014-15:

Lost ACC POY Warren from previous season

19-12 (10-8) regular season

RPI 46, SOS 6 before today's win over Syracuse

3 big wins: Duke, at UNC, at Louisville

2 bad losses: at Wake, at BC

Overall:

Overall record 89-50 (.640), ACC record 45-34 (.570), Postseason record 9-6 (.600)

3 NCAA bids in 3 seasons, soon to be 4 in 4, with 1 S16

Has recruited well

Teams are typically competitive with the best teams in the country
His teams and players have typically shown improvement throughout seasons and careers

I'm pretty impressed. The 2012-13 season was disappointing, but overall it feels like he has done a great job. I don't know why fans like pantherclub are so down on him. He has coached his team to wins over 4 HOFers this season (K, Roy, Pitino, Boeheim). He can coach.

I also think State looks set to be strong next season. They will lose only one player who plays significant minutes -- Ralston Turner. But Terry Henderson, transfer from WVU, will be eligible, and the Martin twins should also be able to step right into more minutes. And Turner is easily the weakest defender who got a lot of minutes the past two seasons, so the defense will probably be improved, and it was already quite good down the stretch this year.

:wolf:

Not sure what people are expecting...I like Gott...think he's doing fine.

Give the guy time...it's still early to judge and so far I'm impressed.

I was making a joke referencing Krzyzewski's penchant for skipping courtside interviews, handing that duty off to an assistant. It's a practice few coaches employ in televised games. If Coach K hasn't skipped any of those this season, or if he hasn't skipped out on those interviews at a rate out of line with other power conference coaches, I'll be happy to issue a retraction.I will say I'm blindsided by this claim that I don't have my facts straight as usual. I know we disagreed on whether Duke's win over Kansas in Maui a few years ago would be reflected in Duke's RPI this season. You said it would, I said RPI only takes games played in the current season into account. If that's an example of me not having my facts straight and you being in position to arbitrate, I guess I'm not too concerned.

I've been accused of ceaseless attacks by Duke fans (and a few UNC fans) on many occasions, but rarely have the accusations held up to scrutiny. Last season a couple Duke fans accused me of a barrage of attacks on Jabari Parker over a time period when I hadn't made any posts about college basketball at all. I'm sure you remember those accusations, but you probably forgot the resolution. There was even one time I offered to pay money for an accuser to substantiate a claim about my posting history of attacks. Didn't have to pay up.

But hey, at least you had the guts to mention me by name this time. It was fun watching you pretend to ignore me when you were referencing posts I'd made. The best was that time you claimed no one had brought up a particular subtopics but then referenced something I'd said about it.

I know it's ACC Tournament time and there's a lot of good fans from a lot of different ACC schools who would rather talk hoops that watch a few users i-fight. So if you've got anything more to say to me, take it to PMs and we'll sort it out there. I'm not going to engage you further publicly.

But to play devils advocate...come on Bruce...you know you've got a hard-on for dogging Duke.

Mix it up sometimes...throw in a dig at UNC once in a while. I promise it won't hurt.

amazed duke is ahead right now
UNC is only a slightly above average team... Duke is somewhere between the 2nd and 4th best team in the country this year. Before the game, I was only hoping for it to be competitive. I've been granted that, but it could be getting ugly soon.

This is what I was talking about last duke/unc game.

UNC is now forced to play more half court.

Last game it was more back and forth all game long.

But dudes with stats can try to argue all they want.

I know Duke. I don't know much but I know Duke and last game they played UNC'S pace.

This game Duke is forcing UNC to slow it down and make set plays.

Still a close game either way.

You gotta give UNC credit for their defense...it's pretty freaking solid.

Tyus Jones is filthy. No quit in this Duke team. The cheats gave a great effort no doubt, but they have no answer for our back court. Duke is one heck of a tough road team.

Does Duke move ahead of UVA on the S-Curve now? Seth Davis and S. Mandel appears to think so. Which begs the question, which is better?

Playing in Syracuse against Kansas, or possibly Villanova. Or playing in Houston where Gonzaga could be the #2.

Because Duke beat UVA then yes, they should be ahead of UVA. P,us we don't know when Anderson is coming back.
