2015 Concerts Thread (1 Viewer)

I'm going to see Purity Ring tonight in Boulder and Glass Animals tomorrow in Denver. It should be a trippy psychedelic couple of days. And I'm expecting the crowd to be packed wall-to-wall with sexy young women.
How was it? I've seen Purity Ring twice and they've been a great show each time. Never seen Glass Animals, haven't been able to "get into" their music yet.

Going to aftershock this weekend. Any particular acts I need to check out?

Assuming you will be checking out the headliners on Saturday (Slipknot/Shinedown), I will concentrate on the others.Skip Manson, he is an overweight mess.

Breaking Benjamin consistently crushes it. Radio hit heavy of course, but the new lineup really re-energized them. Used to be snooze fest.

Speaking of snooze fest and radio hits, Seether brings both of those. They won't blow you away, but you know what you are getting.

BMTH surprised me both times I saw them, harder then they sound on the radio.

Rest of them are worth a few minutes of your time, just don't miss Clutch or All That Remains.

I am into the harder stuff, so I will leave Sunday to someone else, but do not miss Sevendust, that's all I ask of you. Never been big into the Deftones, but they put on a good show. The Sword has some good stuff on SIRIUS, but never seen them live.
Thanks. Greatly appreciate it. This isn't my music wheelhouse but always enjoy expanding my horizons. Saw Manson last year and he was atrocious. I'll make a point to hit Sevendust, clutch, and all that remains.

Saw Halestorm at HoB in Vegas over the weekend. Great rock show from start to finish. Started with an acoustic set for about 45 mins. Then 2 hours unplugged.

I've seen a lot of shows in my time, but for just pure fun, screaming at the top of your lungs, this was in my top 10 for sure. Getting a meet and greet with the sexy Lzzy Hale and the rest of the band didn't hurt the experience.
I saw Halestorm at Rock on the Range in 2013 and they were great. Didn't know much about them at all but them and Volbeat where the two bands I knew little about that impressed me.

Saw Sir Paul McCartney last night in Detroit. Was not on my concert list but a friend called and had a couple extra tickets. I would not have paid 220.00 each but for free it was well worth it.

It was a very entertaining show. Played 41 songs and many early Beatle songs.
I really regret not seeing Paul at GABP in 2011. He's a legend and can't believe I passed.

Yeah, Purity Ring put on a great show up in Boulder. I've seen them perform twice as well, and they always put on a really fun, trippy show that is well-complimented by their crazy 3D light show.

Glass Animals was a pretty good show as well, but they didn't necessarily blow me away. I'm sure it is kind of tough to tour when you only have one debut album of source material to work with. But I really like their indie psychedelic/electronic rock sound, and I think that they are capable of doing some pretty cool trip hop collaborations. They recently released a new song called "Lose Control" -- a collaboration with Joey Bada$$ rapping over their beat, which I think is pretty cool example of the new trip hop genre that is exploding right now.

Front row dead center for Chris Cornell at the Atlanta Symphony tonight. Can't friggin wait. The album is really good too.

One week from tonight, Dead and Company at the Verizon Center in DC.

Also just bought a ticket for Shovels and Rope at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va. Show is in March and this band is great.

Just picked up Black Sabbath Final Tour tickets for the February 2016 show at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Saw Sturgill Simpson at the Ryman last night. Outstanding.

Towards the end he said we've got two more songs and he meant it. He said he's developed an aversion to bull#### and the band leaving pretending not to come back while we loose our #### is stupid. Loved it.

He also had a comic open up for him which was a nice change of pace. And he was funny.

Just saw Chris Stapleton...very short set, but it was probably the best I've seen in quite some time.

A true talent.

So July Talk in Detroit was awesome, as usual. They played 3 new songs from the upcoming album. What was a total surprise was the opening act...called Little Hurricane. Two piece band, ala White Stripes, with a guitar and female drummer. They are much more bluesy then the WS, but they brought it. Met them after the show, and they are very cool people also. From San Diego.

Check this song here of their from Youtube:

Crocodile Tears by Little Hurricane

Seeing MMJ tomorrow night at Orpheum in Boston, also have Sat night two tix but can't use them. Anyone interested? Cost $55 ea but don't care too much what I get for them, will give them away otherwise.

They came through Buffalo on November 14 but I was out of town. :(

Arkells are coming in December and I'm out of town then too. Sucks, but at least I'm pretty sure they'll both be back next year.

Just got tix for Jeff Tweedy solo show at Park West next Friday. Never seen him solo, just with Wilco, should be fantastic.
This show was great. I would assume it was recorded, but I cannot find a download anywhere. If anyone knows where I could get a copy of this show I'd appreciate it.

Saw Coheed and Cambria last Friday, got pulled over by one of Virginia's finest so was a little late getting to the theater and couldn't get a spot at the balcony railing so down to the mosh pit I went. It was fun, but the first and last time that will happen as I was sore all weekend.

Has anyone attended Rockygrass in Lyons, CO?
I did before the flood and Folk Festival which happens in the same spot.. It's a great time. Run by the same folks who do Telluride Bluegrass - so it is well run. It sits is along the banks of the Poudre river in Lyons - you can hang out in the stream and cool off nicely. You can tube down the river just outside of town up towards the Canyon down into town. There is a big Shed at one end for the stage - it got rebuilt after the flood so I haven't seen the new one. Lyons is just north of Boulder - be aware traffic can be a bit crazy around the grounds. You typically park way down the street at the park and walk. Lyons is home to Oskar Blues - Dale's Pale Ale birthplace. Good beers.

Scored Tix for Muse in Detroit on Jan 14th. 2nd row past the standing room. I also have 7th row in Toronto 2 nights later

One night with my wife, and one with my son.

Can't wait!

Saw Todd Rundgren at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg PA last night. I don't know how long he's been playing, probably 40 years or more, but good lord does he do an energetic show, sing well, and play well. I'm not a big fan of his recorded music but I'll go see him in person any time. That's twice I've seen him now and the other show was equally as good.

The Whitaker Center is a great place to see a show by the way. The acoustics are excellent on the floor. In the mezzaning and the balcony the acoustics are messed up.

Just picked up tickets to see Alejandro Escovedo solo at the end of January. I've seen him maybe 6-7 times before and it's always a quality show. I have to say I prefer his quieter music to his electric stuff but even that is quite good. Best time I saw him was with his string quintet.

The January show is in a very small venue, maybe 50-60 people fit in, there's a bar, and you can see and hear everything said and played on stage like you're right next to it. There are tickets available. Stoltz Listening Room in the Historic Avalon Theater in Easton MD: https://tickets.avalontheatre.com/ordertickets.asp?p=956&backurl=%2FDefault.asp%3FSearchMonth%3D%26monthsubmit%3D%26SearchText%3D%26Go.x%3D%26Go.y%3D%26pg%3D1%23abc

Crazy (for me) next month or so....

1/19 : Tool & Primus (large venue, been about a decade since I've seen Tool. Can't wait. Primus will be a nice treat). Tuesday night or I'd be getting a bit sideways for this one.

Then a gauntlet of a week in Feb. I will be in San Diego for 2/17-2/21 on business and with the GF, we fly back Sunday morning, then will rush down to Tunica, MS to check into a suite and catch Aaron Lewis (acoustic solo) via some front row seats I scored for a Christmas gift for the GF.

Then that Wednesday I'll be downtown in a small-ish club for the DropKick Murphys. (2nd time seeing them... so good) :excited:

Then that Saturday I'll cap off the week with Gary Clark Jr live at a great music hall.

Very excited, but that's going to be a rough week.

Just picked up Black Sabbath Final Tour tickets for the February 2016 show at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Do not miss rival sons the opening act. Those guys are good
My concert bud and I picked up Meet and Greet VIP tickets for the DTE show this Summer. Can't wait.

Going to Fab Faux at the Michigan Theater in April. These guys are pretty much the best Beatles coverband I've ever heard.
