Cano the current worst contract in MLB?
depends on how you are defining it, but Verlander is probably close. Owed $140 for this year through 2019. I would guess that there is a better chance that Cano re-gains some semblance of his form.
In the first two years of his deal JV returned a 4.8 and a 2.8 WAR. Ryan Howard is a cumulitive -2.1 in his 4th year of a $125 mm contract. So one more decent JV year and nothing woukd still end up being a better deal than Howard. So that has to be the worst current contract in baseball, at least JV and Cano have a chance to recover.
yeah, it depends on how you evaluate it. it does make more sense to look at it from the perspective of when it was signed and the cumulative worth. I was more thinking of it from right now forward. We only owe Howard $60 million more, including this year, so I'm seeing the light at the end of that tunnel . . .

So was I. That's why I said current. Depending on how you define it, Howards could be the worst contract in history of MLB. It pretty much crippled an entire franchise. Tough to compare pitchers, IMO. They're more likely to all of the sudden suck (injury, age, etc). Its rare that hitters go from MVP to -2.1 WAR that quickly. In Howards defense, he had a major injury too. Guess I was wondering if Cano might be the next Howard? I know most think Cano is better than this, but ts been almost a year-and-a-half now.

Cano is still hitting the ball hard. But he is hitting a lot more groundballs.

I'm not sure what historical comparisons and patterns say about the likelihood of correcting that from this point on in a player's career, but I would assume that he could make some adjustments.

Really frustrating being a Hamels and Sale owner. Hamels was brilliant tonight and they even scored him three runs, and then Ken Giles with a rare meltdown to prevent any chance of a win. White Sox are equally as bad, poor Sale.

8 straight games of double digit strikeouts = 3-3 record

Failing to draft a single impact player since 2003 crippled the Phillies more than the Howard contract ever did. Even though attendance is way down from their peak, they still have oodles of money thanks to their TV deal.

Heard something I found amazing the other day. The Yankees have only had four non pitchers drafted by them make the AS game as a Yankee.

Name them

The Angels fight between Scioscia and Dipoto was allegedly because Scioscia refuses to embrace analytics like the GM wanted, and instead wanted to use that but really be able to "go with his gut" on shifts.

Good news for Angels fans! Amaro is pretty old school and will probably be looking for a job soon. Has experience!

I've read also that DiPoto thought Scioscia was the owner's "teachers pet", and whenever anything went right, Scioscia got all the credit, and when anything wrong, DiPoto got all the blame.

#### Scioscia. The 2011 season where he packed it in and let the Rangers have home field was it. No integrity, he's the highest grade of stale vag IMO.

Forgive my ignorance on such matters, but wouldn't low grade stale vag be worse? How do the rankings on such things work? Where's MAC when we need him? Seems this would be his area of expertise.

Missed the tag by a foot, clearly touches the plate.

a) How do you miss it it the first place? Camera behind the plate showed an excellent angle behind the ump, was NEVER CLOSE.

b) How in the world was it not overturned after review?

PS - I always give the ump benefit of the doubt, it was never close. If you think he missed home, that's one thing, but he was called out right away. Just horrific.
