With Holliday hurt again, they needed another bat. But damn, if they were willing to give up Rob Kaminsky, it's disappointing that it was for Brandon Moss when Adam Lind's name was churning through the rumor mill.
Lind definitely seems like the kind of guy the Cards would prefer. Maybe they see something with Moss they can fix. As someone pointed out: they just gave up more for 1.3 years of Moss than the Indians gave up for 2 years of him. With Holliday hurt again, they needed another bat. Piling on... Moss was a 2.x WAR guy his last three years in Oakland, but is negative WAR this year.Lind definitely seems like the kind of guy the Cards would prefer. This is why I'm surprised they gave up Kaminsky. You'd think they're buying low on the guy.Piling on... Or Chris Gruler, or Scott Moore.Because of my fascination with Moneyball and how that whole draft played out, it's a bit ironic that Blanton was drafted only seven picks behind Hamels and both were traded tonight.JZilla to the Pirates forconsiderations.
The return packages were just a little bit different, though.
And IIRC, Hamels was one of those "high school players" in which Beane had absolutely no interest (much like Prince).
I'm sure it doesn't hurt, but my limited understanding of him is that he is probably a "safe" guy without a huge upside (at least not K-wise).Apropros of nothing, can someone explain Chi Chi Gonzalez to me? This guy's one of those "prospects because he has a cool name" guys, right?
It's weird that these mediocre to bad teams are making all of these huge moves.Don't like this trade at all for Toronto.
I expect Cabrera will have one too eventuallyBonds is the best hitter of our lifetime.*Cabrera is the best hitter of your lifetime, and he doesn't strike out 200 times over a two year period yet in one season. Cabrera's worst career OPS year was .879, Howards career OPS is .872. He's obviously not immune to injury based on his current status, but if that's the horse you're going to ride then have at it. Cabrera has averaged 155 games played over his career, Howard's reached that number three times in a season. They aren't comparable players, Cabrera is a Hall Of Famer and the best hitter since Ted Williams. Howard is a good player who had three or four terrific seasons.Howard was never the same after the injury. Something about Miggy makes you think he's immune from injury? He looks to me like exactly the type of player/body type that will not age well.anyone thinking Miguel Cabrera is going to fade like Albert Belle or Ryan Howard is out of their minds.
It's mostly AL teams, right? It makes sense. Right now the Twins are in the AL Wild Card game with a 52-48 record. And most acquisitions are far more useful to teams fighting for playoff spots than those who are almost locks since the slight upgrade means a lot more over 60ish games than it does in the crapshoot that is the MLB playoffs. It's weird that these mediocre to bad teams are making all of these huge moves.Don't like this trade at all for Toronto.
Why? Norris has had a really poor seasonDon't like this trade at all for Toronto.

For pissing hot for hot dog relish?Yeah, can't see them being the favorite to keep him. Not at all.Don't like this trade at all for Toronto.
Alfredo Simon availableOh boy. Pineda scratched with an elbow issue. The Yanks may regret passing on all these guys soon. Time to go after Tyson Ross
The Blue Jays haven't made the playoffs in 21 years, easily the longest drought in the four major North American sports. They're two games out of the Wild Card right now and the team they're chasing is six games under .500 over the last two weeks. If they find a way into a division series I bet their fans will be just fine with sacrificing Norris as part of the effort, and if they buy more tickets and watch more games as a result then the front office will be happy too. And of course they get a comp pick as part of the package too.Yeah, can't see them being the favorite to keep him. Not at all.Don't like this trade at all for Toronto.
I would actually think that the addition of Price (given that he's a rental) would make a lot more sense for a team that is already a lock to make the playoffs. When you give up quality prospects for a pure rental, your intention is to win now at all costs. Toronto isn't even a lock to make the WC. Even if they do make the WC, they are probably forced to tie up Price in that one game playoff which would reduce his value for the rest of the playoffs. A team that is already a lock knows that they can just start Price in game 1 and maximize his value for the first round of the playoffs. Major risk by toronto IMO but I also don't know a thing about these prospects. It's mostly AL teams, right? It makes sense. Right now the Twins are in the AL Wild Card game with a 52-48 record. Are there similarities with what Milwaukee did when they got CC? They did end up winning the division that year and they were relevant for a little while. I'm not sure how Milwaukee fans feel about that trade now. I guess in hindsight it's not a bad trade but it didn't help Milwaukee win anything. The Blue Jays haven't made the playoffs in 21 years, easily the longest drought in the four major North American sports. Sure it did. Might not seem like much if you're a fan of a team that wins the division on a regular basis and/or has won a World Series in the last 20 years or so, but for about half the league's fans a division title (and the chance to experience a playoff series including multiple home playoff games) is cause for huge celebration. Are there similarities with what Milwaukee did when they got CC? Correction, the Brewers won the wild card, and it was on the last day of the season. Without CC they don't sniff the playoffsAre there similarities with what Milwaukee did when they got CC? They haven't had much luck with Mark Reynolds.Seems crazy to have these strikeout machines at first after Puljos years. Hope they can break Moss out of bad at bats

trade still not officialWhy did Michael Morse just pinch hit for Miami when he was traded to LA yesterday?
I think the Dodgers are just going to let them keep him, since they only wanted Latos anyway. Why did Michael Morse just pinch hit for Miami when he was traded to LA yesterday?
THere was something on Fangraphs a few days ago about the results of trading for aces at the deadline, but obviously I've forgotten all the points made therein.I would actually think that the addition of Price (given that he's a rental) would make a lot more sense for a team that is already a lock to make the playoffs. I don't think they get a pick for Price. Players traded in season can't be given a QO. Or am I imagining that? The Blue Jays haven't made the playoffs in 21 years, easily the longest drought in the four major North American sports. Funny stuff. Then Padres get 3 to take the lead... Only for another delay.Rain delay called in the Mets/Padres game with 2 outs in the ninth. Wow.
lolFor one thing, they're causing you to put question marks on the wrong sentencesWhat are the Rangers doing. They're like 5 under?
It's the new thing to do in MLB. Did he cry too?Why did Michael Morse just pinch hit for Miami when he was traded to LA yesterday?
